- Note: returning staff – if you staffed for ACen last year, please contact your department’s DH and they will be able to confirm your information and position.
NEW VOLUNTEERS! See the requirements below based on the type of “staff” you’d like to be.
Staff Requirements – (staff for any of the departments listed here)
- Must be 18 or older by April 27, 2012.
- Must be able to work Thursday thru Sunday
- Must sign up for a minimum of 24 hours during Thur-Sun at the event.
Incident Response Team (I.R.T).
- Must be 18 or older by April 27, 2012.
- Must be able to work the weekend of the convention (April 27 – 29, 2012)
- All applicants are hand reviewed upon submission – please allow time for a response
At-Con Volunteer (aka Gopher) Requirements
Wanna help out Con without being a Staffer? Yet, still want to experience the con from a staffer’s perspective? Try volunteering in your spare time! Being a gopher allows you to experience what you want of the con, and help out the departments who need it in your own spare time. The Volunteers Department can be found in The Reagan Room. Sign up or at least pop your head in and find out what we’re about!Work enough hours and you could even earn a free badge for next year!
Gopher Perks can include:
- free badge for next year after 16 hours of work
- crash space
- an experience & stories you’ll never forget
Join our team and make a difference. Who knows, you may even find a department to staff with next year!
- Must be 18 or older to volunteer and be eligible for Crash Space by April 25th, 2012 (Bring ID with you)
- We don’t want you to miss your favorite ACen events, so you choose your own hours! Just fill out & turn in your provided Time Card.
Examples of what a Gopher’s job entails:
- Checking for Acen issued badges at the door of featured event rooms.
- Fulfilling various tasks around the convention center – running from hotel to hotel or even hotel to convention center.
- The prepping and assembly of main programming events like the Masquerade, Anime Hell, and Midnight Madness by laying down cables and plastic wrap the size of your buddy.
Hours goes towards:
- 6 Hours per day for Crash Space Each Night (Must be 18 or older, limited space offered based on availability)
- 16 Hours for a “Roll-Over Badge” for next year or Reimbursement
- • Double Hours are earned during Wednesday & Thursday Set Up:
(till midnight Thursday) AND during Sunday Tear-Down:
(4pm – the job is done on Sunday); If interested in working please fill out the Set-Up & Tear-Down Team Form below. (Feel free to volunteer all weekend if you would like!) - Best of all, there is an Award! We are proud to announce, The Volunteer with The Most Hours Award is back! Based off of the Volunteer with the most hours by Saturday Night at Midnight!

Set-Up / Tear-Down Team
This is not a stand alone department, it is a part of the Volunteers Department— A special Team put together to make sure the Con gets up and running on time and with out a hitch.
IF you would like to be a part of making sure that happens, sign up here!
We are looking for Volunteers who can commit to helping before and/or after Con.
Especially directed at those of you who are interested in volunteering to cover the cost of your badge, but don’t want to miss a minute of anime-goodies during the convention. This is your shot to give back to the con you love so much, without giving up your favorite Acen events, and walk away with a few stories of your own! You can help make Acen’s 15th year amazing!
Do you have any of the following talents?
- Can you run cable?
- Can you count creative use of gaffers tape on your resume?
- Can you set up game consoles?
- Can you lay down miles and miles of plastic wrap?
- Do you have the OCD for rows and rows of lined up chairs?
