About J. Michael Tatum
Born and raised in McKinney, Texas, Michael began acting at age nine, when his speech therapist urged him to audition for a stage production of The Velveteen Rabbit. Since then, with a lifetime of theatrical experience under his belt, he’s spent the last twenty-plus years hoisting his flag on a number of popular voiceover roles, including Tenya Iida from My Hero Academia, Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler, Sir Hammerlock from the Borderlands franchise, Erwin Smith from Attack on Titan, Cid Highwind from Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and more recently, Dire Crowley from Twisted Wonderland – among many, many others. Between ADR directing, adaptive scriptwriting, playing the convention circuit all over the globe and conducting voiceover workshops, there aren’t many hats in the VO industry he hasn’t worn. While he continues to plumb his range behind the microphone, breathing life into characters as varied as his moods, Michael is also a passionate teacher, helping up-and-comers and seasoned veterans alike connect to their voice. And before you ask, the J. stands for… well. It stands for whatever you’d like.
