Net Neutrality

Recommended Posts

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about you can click on this to learn more. Basically the new rules proposed by the FCC are insane and proposing a 2-tier system to the internet would kill competition between the bigger corporations and the small start-ups. Action needs to be taken now (once again because we just had to do stuff like this to stop SOPA as well) Go to this address to tell the FCC what you think about these new rules. Let them know that this is a really dangerous step and that we all want a free and open internet. While you're at it, feel free to let your Congressman and Senator know that this is also a really bad idea. By making it so that broadband companies would basically no longer have oversight or regulations would be a disaster for consumers. What do you guys think?

Us peons have no control on what will wind up happening. Big comm will get what it wants in the end, one way or the other.

If we do nothing, you are right. They'll get what they want. And maybe they will even if we do, but I'd rather try and take action then do nothing at all

Unfortunately, this isn't a matter of good idea/bad idea. It's a misconception on the users part of what the internet is.

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link several billion devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), the infrastructure to support email, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing and telephony.

Thus its name INTERnet. If you, as a user, have issues with service providers, you may want to look into your other options. Service providers are just that. They provide you the service of access and maintenance. Tor net (dark net) is another option. In fact it makes up the other 90+ percent as well as inclusion of the internet. However, you would put yourself at risks of larger magnitudes.

All I'm trying to say is that you (as users) need to look at what is provided for you. How it's provided and Why. If you don't like it, then make a change. Its that simple.
