  5. ACen to Host WCS US Finals

We are pleased and excited to announce that the the World Cosplay Summit will be holding the American national final round at Anime Central! Pairs cosplay teams from qualifying rounds across the country will appear, showcasing the best American craftsmanship and stage performances. They will compete for the honor of representing the United States in a televised event at the 2014 World Cosplay Summit in Japan. After 12 strong years of the World Cosplay Summit, and a tremendous growth in the skill, scope and scale of competition in the last few especially, ACen is excited to offer the US National Finals a true home. Last year, World Cosplay Summit welcomed competitors from four regional competitions, numbering dozens of teams nationwide. As in previous years, teams will be vying for the chance to represent the United States internationally and compete before a judges’ panel made up of industry legends. Previous years’ judges have included Go Nagai (Devilman, Cutie Honey), Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), May’n (Macross Frontier), and many more. World Cosplay Summit looks forward to sharing all the excitement, competition and fabulous costumes with everyone at ACen 2014. A Letter from the WCS US to our ACen Fans! Greetings to ACen from the World Cosplay Summit! In 2014, we have teamed up to make this convention the home of the US National Finals event. World Cosplay Summit is an international competition founded in 2003 which invites teams from around the world to showcase their talents in a special event on Japanese television. The Nation Finals are where pairs-teams from across the country bring their best costume craftsmanship and short skits to the stage and compete for the honor to represent the United States internationally! It is a unique opportunity for cosplayers and fans alike, as we will be witnessing some of the most skillful cosplay and impressive performances. See characters from your favorite anime, manga and video games brought to life like never before! We hope to see you there out in the audience, and we want to hear you cheering for your favorite regional qualifier teams! See you at ACen for the excitement! - Laura Butler and the US National Staff About World Cosplay Summit The World Cosplay Summit was launched in 2003 by Japanese television station TV Aichi to promote the international exchange of the Japanese youth culture of manga and anime. you can email advertising@ACen.org for bag stuffing, though it is much past our deadline.
  8. Floor plan hopefully?...

We have many new spaces this year located all over the convention center, both first floor and second floor. they are fully accessible, it is just an area where music will be played, all open.
  9. Disability (ADA) access to areas.

There is every year a maps meeting. No that door will not be an entrance and an exit. It is Exit only from the Convention Hall. It is far too congested for that exit to be both, and far to unsafe for it to be both and entrance and an exit. You can enter the convention floor through the hall A entrance which is the main entrance to the Exhibit Hall.

  23. 2013 Gripes

This is a lot of back and forth based mostly on assumptions instead of facts or even experience. We already have many police officers stationed at each of the exits. We do not allow bags into the Soap Bubble. Last year the fire chief checked bags and kicked people out of line if they had bags. We will not be changing the badge coding system. It is currently coded to pull kids 12 and under out. We have many types of badges as it is, and it is not something we are considering changing. It is a shame that some people try their hardest to do illegal activities and give the event bad names, but we do what we can to weed them out. Cops roam the dance, IRT roams the dance, Fire Marshals Roam the dance. People doing illegal activities get arrested because that is the polices job. All of Rosemont PD is on the weekend of our event, and they are everywhere. Curfew laws are upheld when individuals breaking them are found, but if a minor has a parent staying in the Hyatt they are within their rights to be in the hotel spaces according to curfew law. Their parents are responsible for their actions and where they let them go. I get that many people are not a fan of dances, but many people are and these two groups are not going to agree. The reality of it is that dances are a part of the fandom. It's fine to state opinions but eventually these threads that keep getting closed turn into one side bullying the other side and vice versa to see who can scream their opinions the loudest. So to end this the badges arent changing, police and security presence will keep increasing, the dances are not being canceled, other events to appeal to people who don't like dances will be occurring,Someones always going to try and sneak something in, and we are always going to try our hardest to make sure it doesn't happen. I spend like all of 2 minutes at the dances each year, usually enough to go that the police officers who are out there all night and to check on the atmosphere. It's not my scene, hasn't ever really been, but I still respect that it is the highlight of the weekend for many people. We are a community, we may not always share the same opinions, but we better be decent to one another otherwise it goes against everything it means to try an make everyone feel included. My two cents
