  1. Will you be having some kind of shuttle to the MB Financial Park? If not that's ok, just curious. Also what's the backup plan if it rains? Will they just be cancelled? Because let's be honest - it'll probably rain atleast one of the days. As someone with disabilities it's important that I plan out the approximate area I need to be.

    Does it matter really? So my con time is different then yours. If you want people to count down from a specific time then should have put that in the first post..... Welcome to the insanity section of the dead ACen forums. It's not really looked at by anyone anymore and I've done nothing wrong. Regardless I'm done responding to a pointless argument. Hope you have a good convention, I shall refrain from posting in this thread again.

    Im not an official rep for ACen (so dont take my word as law), I'm a veteran attendee and former staff member. It seems as though staff arent super active at this point as its so close to con. At this point I'd say to plan on going to registration to get a replacement badge. Do you have a copy of the email you sent to them? I'd have it there for reference in case they question it.

    Any panel involving guests expect it to be busy and that you will need to get in line fairly early. Also for popular anime ones. I remember when Legend of Korra came out, that panel filled up and there was about a 3rd in line who did not get in. That panel had no guests or well known panelist's on it either.

    Per the policy in Guidebook (look under "rules of ACen") you arent allowed to line up for main programming events more then 45 minutes ahead. I would advise you not to linger in the area before the lines either because IRT will chase you away and it causes a fire hazard. I think panel programing its you cant line up before the previous one starts (so no more then an hour).

    Hasn't been at ihop for years. I know because I was the last person to run it. Alas the problem was, as junk said, nobody was showing up. I won't be there on Thursday so I couldn't do one anyway. Somebody is more then welcome to take up the helm if they want.

    For those who have large cosplay or don't walk well it can be. As I said not a big deal if there's not one, I just need to budget for a taxi.

  14. ACen 2017 Cosplay Gatherings Schedule

    Hey all. So I'm coming in as an independent third party, who is not staff, with 8 years of ACen experience under my belt, and has had my own fare share of issues with things and how they run. I ask that you do not eat me alive. It does seem like there's a fair bit of confusion and frustration on the fact that Knives has not followed up with you, lack of communication or direct answers, etc. Do remember that he's a volunteer, with other responsibilities at ACen then the photo shoots + his life. After reading through this whole thing, I can tell you that yes, there were some things that he could have done better. The 30 minute vs 1 hour shoot thing, for sure. But remember ACen is the con of late announcements. We are 19 days out, and just now had a major band announced for example. We do not have many VA guests announced, so I'd assume their **MAY** be some that are pending. Those main events could then conflict with those VA's popular show times, then everyone will want the schedule changed 2 days prior to the con, so they can attend said panel. Also, if he released the final one prior to the main schedule/announcements being made, everyone could get mad because he put them in a different slot then they thought they were going to have, and he cant say why he did that because said announcement has not been made public. He also could be being told by the major powers that be that he can not release it yet for whatever reason. These are just examples of what could be happening and do not take them as fact. I'd caution anyone from releasing old schedules as final, because we dont want mass confusion if they are not correct. I'd also say that remember conventions are for having fun. Try not to worry about the details that you cant control. Things will change. This comes from someone who has hosted many things, across many con's, and is extremely detail oriented. Prior stress will effect you at con if you let it.

    I wouldnt be concerned about taking the train by yourself, because as venus pointed out there is always other attendees on the trains (At least on the blue line) during the morning and evening commutes. TBA people in the city probably wont be fazed by seeing someone in costume anyway. I wouldnt waste my money on an uber/taxi.

So this year we will be doing the normal lobby meet up on Thursday and like last year having an "after party" for those who want to hang out afterwards. This years will be different though - more details to come! Just plan on being there!!! (For those looking for information about the 21+, nothing has been decided or highly discussed yet, I'll let people know what's going on when I know something) ******Forum Meet and Greet**** When:Thursday, May 14,2015 7:00pm Where:Hyatt Regency O'Hare - First Floor by the "Grand Ball Room" (Map below will be updated - this is an old one - but for reference its location 2) What is it? Its an event run every year that gives everyone on the forums an opportunity to Meet one another, hang out, and talk for a bit. This is an all ages event that everyone, even first year attendees to the con, can feel welcome at. Want to Meet that Otaku who loves One Piece just as much as you, but not sure you'll find them at the con? This is just for these kinds of situations. Also, you can make new friends, put faces to names (maybe even learn their real ones!) - and just have a great time! ****After Party!**** When: Thursday, May 15,2015 8:00pm or directly after the forum meet and greet. (Whichever comes first) Where: Red Bar at the Hyatt!! What is it? A place for everyone to play some games, have some fun and laugh's and get to know eachother! More details to come!!!

  19. Whoever booked all the suites

    It probably wasn't someone who wanted to mess up the convention. Most likely there were suites available yesterday, but most of them taken by the convention themselves for guests and staff.
  20. Dat 2016 Room Block

    Guys - this actually went pretty smoothly compared to other conventions. I deal with DragonCon reservations every year... they use a system called passkey for most host hotels (the ones that even have public booking, most are full this year from people preregistering because they stayed at the hotel last year.) ... and they completely sell out in about 5 minutes... you have about 50,000 people all trying to get a room in one hotel at once... the sites crash each and every year. Its a nightmare. There is no calling to make reservations - if you do call they use the same crappy website that you have to - so theres no guarantee they will get in either. Your chances are about 1:100 that you will get a room. Please be grateful for how well it went this time, yes there were hiccups - but it could be much much worse. Per the internal reservations at the Hyatt it booked up completely in an hour and half for all days and room types. Thursday and doubles were gone in about 45 minuets or less depending on what days you were looking for. Room block opened at 10:05 because I had someone have trouble booking rooms until that time period. It showed it was open, but no rooms available. I was able to book 2 double rooms Wednesday - Sunday, with little to no headache, beyond the no rooms until 10:05 issue. As far as the passkey link goes - thats on ACen. I do believe the hotel put it up on their twitter though. My suggestions to people are to always call about 5 minutes prior to the block opening... not right on the dot. That way you have someone on the phone before the system crashes. You can talk BS with them until 10. I however didnt even get to do that because of work, I called right at 10:00 - got through no problem. Limiting the amount of rooms is also on ACen. I have a feeling that Thursday was full because of another group - not because they didnt book enough rooms for that day. Normally there are things going on the weekdays prior to con. Things that ACen needs to improve: 1. Better communication. Announce the times at least 2 weeks in advance - not just the dates. Some people have to make arrangements to not be working if they release during the day. 2. Passkey link up a week prior to the room block opening on the main page. Yes you can get this prior to the day of. 3. Look into expanding your hotels. I know there some big thing with the Hilton, but there are other hotels around. You can call them overflow hotels... that way people are less likely to panic because they think they will have nowhere to stay if the "host" hotels do not go through. Atleast put up a list of other "non convention" hotels in the area. Do this prior to the release of the main hotels. 4. Why do you have to log into the main page to get any information about the hotels individually? That makes zero sense.     Special Needs went really well. I had one big concern - but that was brought up at con. The only other thing I have is not all the people in the game room knew what to do with the bag pass. I got stopped every time I was in there (about 4 times) and there always was a debate between the workers whether or not to let it in. Somebody always came to my rescue though. lol
