  1. Crystal Ball 2014

I'm very curious what this new direction is? Oh by the way for those that care.
  2. Who is all excited for the ball this year?

No need to be skeptical this year. They have me taking over the hosting and DJing this year. I've been Teaching dance and hosting such events for quite a long time, on top of that I've done such balls for over 15 conventions just in the last 3 years. I will make sure it's a fantastic evening! Everyone needs to come ask me to dance!
  3. Light Toy Safty and Workshop?

We won't be doing this workshop this year. my partner and I will be hosting the formal ball and didn't want to divide our attention from something that big. However if you want to meet up drop me an Email at Samuraijessie@gmail.com and we can do some skill share and run around spinning things :) it will be a grand ol time :)
  4. Crystal Ball tickets are on sale now!

it's not bad. semi elegant. not quite ball. I personally would let it pass so long as it appears elegant once all finished up but if you can do something to make it look a little bit more formal that would be appreciated.
  5. Crystal Ball tickets are on sale now!

This year we have people who know what a ball is hosting. My experience is in actual ballroom instruction and events. I've also run over 15 such balls within the Anime Convention Circut it's self. This will be my first year doing ACen. But I can promise you I Will create a setting you will enjoy :)
  6. Music at the Crystal Ball

i love these options. Though this year for the ball we are going with a Formal so there will be less jazz this year and more Waltz. I do also teach and DJ a lot of swing and blues. I might see about integrating a few into the playlist. Next year I've heard rumors that they may want to set up more of a jazz feel and I hope they do cause I can do that EXTREMELY well :)
  7. Music at the Crystal Ball

Mostly I will be using waltz and slow 4/4 tempo. I will have a few higher tempo waltz's if you really enjoy the Viennese waltz. But being as I only have limited time to teach and since most people will not be ready for high tempo waltz there will not be that many of them. I will not be teaching fox trot either(due to time restrictions) but there should be several song in my playlist that you could rock out with a fox trots :) The method i'll be teaching for slow music will not be night club 2 step but instead will teach blues fusion lead and follow theory(much more versatile). I want people to learn to understand lead/follow and tension matching, not just memorize steps. As to when and where these workshops will be taking place it has not yet been confirmed. Hopefully I will be getting info back soon :) Shucks

Doesn't sound to bad. Though female navy uniforms usually cut off just below the knee. so i would have to say just for the sake of keeping the dress code please do the same. I look forward to seeing it :)

Of course not. This is a formal ball. Formal being the operative word. Some people will do just what is required to get by the dress code. but if you want to do it right then you should pull out all the stops and and make sure you are majestic and breathtaking As for fem shep i really can't comment. I'm not that familiar with what it would look like made formal. and having a future base I'm not sure if mass effects idea of dress military garb meets classic specs. Sorry I can't be more help on that one.
  10. Date Auction?

I agree on the no date auction for several reasons. Charity is not acceptable because to set up a charity of any sort in Chicago requires far more red tape then it's worth. Also I've done balls at conventions that had such an action and it almost always seems to end up setting the wrong atmosphere for a ball. it's a social event. you do not need a date. Often times it's a good place to find a date. The ball is a social dance meaning you are free to ask anyone to dance. get to know them have a good time. This is encourages. same thing. when we do a Waltz lesson before the dance we rotate partners regularly so people can meet each other and learn as well as get into a more social frame of mind. it's quite a good place to meet people. that's the purpose of a Ball :)
  11. Music at the Crystal Ball

Welcome! My name is Jessie Eckels and it's my honor to be Hosting, DJing and teaching dance at this ball. I thought I would give you an idea of what you could expect and see what you all might have to contribute to making this ball even better! I've done quite a few balls having over 10 years of dance experience. over 5 years teaching experience and 3 years hosting experience. I've done quite a few anime balls in that time and generally play Music that is classy, soft, danceable(waltz or slow with some variation) Picking my music from Japanese culture/Anime/Games and a few other sources. Combing through for only the best that will set an atmosphere conductive to an amazing evening. That said I always like to find a few new songs. So if you have anything you think might be nice to hear for such an event please let me know. I'm always interested :)/> Can't wait to see and dance with you all Jessie

Hello. I'll be the Dj host and dance instructor for this ball :) In relations to dress code I would just like to say the following. once you find something that applies to the dress code it's still a great Idea to ask yourself two questions, "does this make me truly feel classy?" and "Do I look like I put effort in looking nice?" If the answer is yes you are ready to have your night like a sir...or Madam :) Can't wait to see you all. Myself and the staff have a great event planned for you :) Feel free to drop me questions! 13. Light Toy Safty and Workshop?

Thanks to those that joined us for the workshop, we had a great time working with you all and when we do this again next year we hope to see even more improvement for us to work with :)

    Light Toy Manipulation Workshop
  15. Announcing the Crystal Ball!

I'm suspecting it's the Fox trot as that would be slow, slow, quick, quick...International Standard Tango would be Slow, slow, quick quick, slow...Waltz is 3/4 time so there's no quick or slow. steps on every beat. Rumba has a base step that uses a box step with Slow, quick, quick. same basic foot work idea as waltz but on a different rhythm...more comparisons then I intended. oh well, that was quite fun :)
