Also I'm sure they will be having a merch booth like AP. I'm not entirely sure of this, but if they do they should be there as well so you could meet them. Plus there's the signing and whatnot.

I completely get why they are strict with the dress code. What I'd like is to have two tea parties. One brand tea party and then another Lolita Appreciation (or whatever you want to call it) Tea Party where any brand, style, is accepted. But unfortunately I don't think that would happen. :(

Like its been said before, you can wear an accessory by the designers. This is an event asked for by the designers for their fans. We are sorry for those upset with the dress code, but the brand delineated event was requested by the designers. We are sorry about the timing crunch as well, we had to wait for the details to be finalized so we could announce.

I am also a bigger lolita. I fit into very, very few brand pieces at 120cm bust/100cm waist. Both Chantilly and Atelier Pierrot are relatively plus-size friendly brands. My bust is just a bit too large for Chantilly but there are a few pieces of Atelier Pierrot I could possibly fit. (Unfortunately, due to the time crunch, I won't be able to track down one of those main pieces in time.) So most lolitas smaller than me (which is... most lolitas ) could theoretically wear a main piece by one of the brands.

So instead I will be wearing handmade and indie-brand as my main pieces and accessorizing with the host brands as much as possible. I have a pair of Chantilly socks (which are also highly recommended for plus size - they are very stretchy and long - I have like 5 pairs and more on the way!) and have ordered a hair accessory from Japan. I hope to add more accessories to the outfit from the booth because I really want to do my best to showcase the host(s) and show my appreciation. I did not attend last year's party in part because I was worried I couldn't put together an outfit that was "AP enough" to show how much I enjoy them because I can only do their accessories. But I really want to be there this year, so I'm going to do my best and hope it's enough.

Here's the thing I think, Kassy said it above,

Quote

Angelic Pretty tea party and yet all tickets were sold out in less than a half hour and everyone showed up wearing the maximum instead of the minimum amount of AP clothing.
because of the "maximum" feel in some cases a lot of girls will show up fully decked out. While it's okay to not show up like that, which I'm sure most lolita's will agree that it's cool to just show up in with say a headband, gloves and bag, it's still damn expensive for these items -given that you're paying roughly $50 or more for the weekend pass (unless you buy just the sunday pass which is what $25), plus another $50, and whatever the price is for the items, that's over $100.00. The second thing is that, there's always no matter what the group, some people that will make you feel inferior if you come in dressed with just the bare minimum. I would think that some people that would want to go but can't afford more then the bare minimum would feel a bit bad. I know that there's a meet and greet with the two designers (at least as far as panels go) but I can see some girls enjoying the idea of having a, I use this term loosely, fantasy tea setting. (Personally I've had the pleasure of being to a high English tea once. I use pleasure loosely because in that case the whole thing felt really really pretensious particually the dress code which was "Women wear skirts knee lenght, matching or black and white jackets or 'tea' dresses (sundresses I think would be the best way to discribe it)." And it just seemed really, dull over all because the discusssion was bland to me. Then again I was with a bunch of older women who had their nose so far up their own posteriors that it was hard to see where their rear ended and their face began, so that kind of painted my view on High tea experinces.)

Now I know here that won't happen, at least with the lolita's I've met. However I have seen and heard of stories from lolitas themselves about some girls who are very picky about showing up for Tea parties dressed in a non brand dress at these types of events. I'm going to stress this, I understand the reasons for the brand party. But it would be nice to have (other then the indie Fashion show) a tea event that embraces all forms of lolita not just Brand X, along with having the expensive party.

What I'm thinking here is like: You have the brand party where you spend the money for those who whish to attend. Then have a free one for those that paid for a full weekend badge. Heck why not make it a "Fashion" Tea party mixing Lolita, Steampunk and Japanese Street Fashion for an event where everyone can get together and talk over everything from the workings of the Fashion industry to creating your own styles to what works and doesn't work here in the states vs what may be working in Japan. This mostly just to be fair to people who can't make it to the "Main event" but want to hang out with their fellow Lolita's in a setting the mimics the bigger get together with the fashion designers.

I hope this makes sense. Again I'm not against the idea of the tea party, I just wish that there was something similar for those who 1. didn't get a ticket, 2. Can't get an item. 3. Want the same experince but have the issue of one and two. This would be great ontop of the indie fashion show.

Deciding not to go since I wasn't dead set on it and I'm sure there are people who want the slot more than me. Hope everyone has fun~

Also, my two cents, I think it's completely fair to ask for at least one piece from the brands being presented. But 50 for a ticket is pretty steep and the short notice was terrible :/

Hey Guys!

This is my first post and my first time going to ACen. I'm really excited! So here's my problem. I'm only 14 and I know that you need an adult to accompany you into the convention and stuff. But do I have to buy a tea party ticket for my mom? She's not really into the lolita stuff and I don't want to get her another $50 ticket if she doesn't even want to go. Do I still need an adult to accompany me into the tea party? I'm fine with paying for the required accessories and my ticket, but do I have to get my mom a ticket?

Thanks guys,

lizzyfizzy

P.S. Do you think I could get a dress on Milanoo in time for the tea party?

NOOOOOOO don't use Milanoo. If you want to go to the Tea Party you have to abide by their dress code - so keep that under consideration it looks like you will have to wear a piece by the designers that are hosting (they should have a booth at the convention itself) and if you need a dress I HIGHLY suggest you never buy anything from Milanoo. While you have a chance to get something good (it does happen) you are likely to get something terrible. There are many safer bets out there including second hand and Bodyline. I suggest if you have facebook looking for the Lolita Sales in English group. You can also google EGL Sales Comm. Either way have your parents help you as you will need a paypal account for those transactions. There should also be vendors at the convention as well.

I don't know if you need your mom for the tea party. I would say that would probably depend on the convention's rules for minors and how old you have to be to go around unescorted.

I agree with Gigi, never buy from Milanoo!!! Bodyline or Fan + Friend are good cheaper options for lolita, but be careful, because they both have items that are replicas. Also, don't forget that you need to incorporate something from the host brand in your outfit! not sure if your mom would have to buy a ticket too, but I would assume that if she did, she'd also have to adhere to the dress code. You may want to just wait to go to a brand tea party when you're a little older and already have some lolita clothing... might be easier. There are 2 Chantilly/ Atelier Pierrot panels and lots of lolita panels in general that you could go to with your mom :)

You would be fine unaccompanied around the convention and I would assume the tea-party until curfew which is much later at night than the tea-party is.

Depends on your budget. Everything that you'll be able to purchase at the con will be at least twice as expensive as the brands Gigi and I suggested. However, if price isn't an object, I'd say wait till the con so you can see the dresses in real life before selecting one.

A curious question for one not going to the event but I'm just wondering about this. Given that guys can wear formal wear, if you didn't wish to wear a lolita dress but chose instead to wear a nice sun dress (I'm thinking wedding type class here not just random cotten) with the accessories would that be okay? Or if you were in the military as a woman, could you wear your dress blues and have like the accessories on?

For the Tea Party? You need to wear the host brand in some way. Are you perhaps talking about the Crystal Ball? I remember reading dress uniforms were acceptable formal wear.

Actually, as someone from the Army, if you are in your Dress Uniform, by UCMJ (the Uniform Code of Military Justice), which are the rules that govern us, when in dress unifrom only certain things are allowed worn. There are guidelines that cover jewerly, purses, and shoes. When in uniform, we are only autohrozed to only wear specific things with the uniform. So, someone in Dress Greens or Dress Blues would not be allowed to wear any sort of accessory other than the accessories permitted by the Unform dress cose. (lest they be considered out of uniform). No other things are autohrized.

Quote

Personnel may wear white gloves with the basic uniform. Females may carry the black leather handbag during duty or after duty hours; they may carry the black fabric handbag only after duty hours, however. When weather conditions warrant, the AG 489 cold-weather cap is authorized for wear with the black all-weather coat or the capes. Black pumps and sheer stockings are the authorized footwear for this uniform. After duty hours, personnel may wear the black fabric pumps with this uniform. (See para 28–10e for information on color ornamentation and branch insignia for detailed officers.)

The entire dresscode can be found here
http://www.apd.army....iles/r670_1.pdf

Edited to add: the rules say the following:

Quote

For lolitas who are bringing dates, black- or white-tie formalwear is acceptable, as are formal military, fire, or law enforcement uniforms with supporting credentials.
This does NOT cover females in the military that might wish to attend in their formal military uniforms. I would like to know what the ruling/decision is on those young ladies.

Just pointing out that this isn't QUITE accurate - females in military dress uniform could be present - if they were present as dates. ;)

But back to the real question, I can't imagine anyone wanting to come by themselves in uniform- brings us back to the question of why you'd want to come if you don't want to wear the brand. ;)

Last year it was at the AP booth, so I imagine it'll be at the Chantilly booth (well, the Harajuku Hearts booth?).
But I don't know for sure, that's just speculation. :)
