good question.
to hang out with my con-friends;
to creep;

to creep on my con-friends, mostly.

Another that popped into my head today:
Watch people in the ever changing crowd who probably outside the con are very socially inept, yet are completely at ease in the con environment. And wonder as I sit there how many of them might possible be on the Autistic/Asperger spectrum. (Not just at Anime cons, but at other cons I've been to.)

To see people I only see once a year. And to drink so much I don't feel the urge to drink all year. and creep.

Drinking... lots of drinking. Hanging out with new people with similar interests and drinking. Getting a party together in the hotel room and drinking. Gorgeous guys and gals in even prettier outfits hanging around and drinking. Yeah.

To freaking vacation. Which includes all of hanging with friends/socializing to make more friends, buying stuff, going to panels, and Raving/partying as hard as I can (which sadly seems to be getting cracked down on alot.)

lol Does anyone else have a hard time explaining conventions to non-con goers/non anime fans?

"What do you do at them?"

"Oh man it's awesome! We dress up and watch anime and....hang out...and talk about nerd stuff...."

"You do that every day, why pay for it?"

Simply because it's what makes me the happiest! For a few magical days all I have to worry about is having as much fun as possible with a hobby I love, with people who love it too! Being able to make friends with just about everyone is a major plus too!

I go for the sake of getting out and forget everything and have fun meeting new people. I also go to cosplay and see all the other people cosplaying. Plus the drinking and seeing my friends.

I was raised attending cons. When I was 8 years old my dad worked for this old gaming company called FASA, they made table top games, and they would go to cons and have big booths and got free hotel rooms. My first con was a GenCon before they had Indy and SolCal, I met Goku and Vegeta's voice actors, got my first Japanese Pokemon card and had my first run in with cosplayers. I've been going to cons since, couldn't imagine life without them anymore.

Other then its in my blood its also a HUGE creative outlet, a place to show off hard work and get appreciation for it and (if I'm feeling all confident) perhaps win an award. Its also a place to meet new people, hang out with friends, and it's comforting to know you're surrounded by hundreds or thousands of like minded people

This might sound like a generic answer, but I also attend for stuff like vacations/seeing friends/and being able to be myself without having to feel odd that ppl around you don't know WTF you're talking about. lol.

Though here's a less generic answer that I've not seen many mention: I like traveling. I live in Boston and I try and go to ACen and Otakon (in Baltimore, MD) each year, but sometimes it's not easy to do so, whether it be due to not being able to get time off from work, or $$. A friend and I plan on roadtripping it from where she lives in CT, to Baltimore for Otakon this year... should be fun if it all works out.

I've been to Anime Boston (2009-2012), Otakon (2009-2012) NYCC/NYAF (2010-2011) and ACen 2012 (I wanted to go back in 2006, and it would have been my first con instead of AB in 2009, but oh well).

As for buying things, I really only can afford stuff like a wallscroll here and there, and maybe some AA stuff, but the stuff I REALLY want I can't afford...
