So last year I did ACen for the first time as a day trip. Since I had a blast I decided to do more then one day with my family this time. Being that we've conveniently missed all the rooms in the blocks that the convention has at the affiliated hotels my mother and I were looking at other hotels we could stay at, and thus came across the Intercontinental Hotel, just less then a mile away from the convention.

So because we've never stayed there before I was wondering if anyone else had.
The travel sites we looked at had pretty good reviews for it, but I thought it'd be good to hear what other convention goers had to say about the place.

We've actually had room blocks at the InterContinental in the past, even though it is a relatively new hotel. And being new, it's very nice and clean. Modern rooms, nothing too fancy, though. And really, it's not far from the convention center. On foot, front door to front door, the InterContinental is nearly the same distance from the convention center as the Hyatt -- about 2-3 blocks. Granted, most of our programming is in the Hyatt, so the IC is a bit further away from there, as you stated (about .6 miles). Overall, I think it's a good choice for a hotel as long as the overnight programming at the Hyatt isn't your thing.

It seems like a pretty good deal then. Well since I'm not a late night girl. Lol
Thanks for the response.

I stayed there last year and I loved it! The room is medium size, the shower is amazing (Stand up only, no tub), the beds are super comfy.

All the room blocks are full? Noooo ;_;
Ah, then I might have to consider this hotel if that's the case.

I at least was unable to get one. Then again I was trying to book a room to fit 4 people. *sheepish*
This place seems nice though so I'm not too put out. xD

Ah, same here! And I only have 3 people! :o
One of my friends stayed there last year. It's a nice hotel. I just don't like the fact that I have to walk that long street at night xD lol But I can pull through! ^_^
It's also next to a highway? or you can call it busy road...? SO it makes it kinda more spooky for me that is. xDDD hehehe

Could be that the double bed rooms are full, but there might still be king rooms open, and I know for sure at least at the DoubleTree and Embassy have sofabeds so they could easily fit four.

Me and my friends stayed there for 2 years. Hated that the walk was far, almost 3 blocks. Loved the rooms but the price was expensive like most hotels. The first year we stayed was nice modern looking room had a bench in the bathroom and the cleaning lady was nice she asked if we still wanted the plastic bag we put to line a small trash can. Plus my friend took much advantage of the temperature control. Last year, we got a different layout and got a bath tub instead of a shower. However, last year instead of taking the deposit, they took the whole amount and when we checked in me and my friend were not allowed in because we were under 21, our first year they allowed 18 and older to check-in, but since I some how paid full they let us in, good thing the manager was there to see the reservation. So this year I'm trying a different Hotel and see how their service is and like most Acen goers I want to be closer to the action..

We opened a room block at the ALoft hotel (sorry if I did the name wrong) around the 12th of this month. It may still have doubles left. I know only singles are left at the Hilton and Doubletree.

Yeah, the Intercontinental is a nice hotel. The best thing about it is its distance. It's about 5-7 minutes, walking distance, from the convention center. I remember running back to my hotel, in rain, in 09 after getting an autograph from M.O.V.E (that should say enough about its distance. The only downside was the fact that they didn't have complimentary breakfast. It's also pretty expensive to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner there. Also, try not to move anything in the fridge if you can. They charge for taking things out. Overall, it's a nice alternative if you missed out on the Hyatt/Doubletree.

Aw, that sucks :/
I don't like when hotels have that whole " TOUCH THIS ITEM IN THE FRIDGE, AND WE GET TO CHARGE YOU " ideal.
Meh.
Thanks for the warning! ^_^
