I don't see a thread, so I thought I'd start one.

Just booked my room here, and from the pictures on the website it does look really nice. But I know thats not always a good judge, because the hotel is trying to sell itself to you, so it wouldn't mention the not nice stuff.

What are your opinions of this place? Anyone else staying here? I will be there Thursday through Sunday.

This will be my third year at the DoubleTree. I absolutely love this place. It's not nearly as hectic as the Hyatt (sometimes the elevators are crowded, but it's still tons better than the Hyatt), but it's still just as close to the action. The beds are SUPER comfortable -- we had problems with waking up on time this past year. XD The bathrooms are very spacious, and there's plenty of space around the room to store your stuff. My favorite this is that, when you check in, they give you warm cookies.

Oh, and I'm part of StrawberryAlchemy's group. So we'll be there Thursday-Sunday as well. :glomp:

Do you guys get rooms at the Hyatt as staff? When you said "staff room," for some reason I had an image of a giant room full of cots. XDDD

And NOOOO. Don't steal my cookies! I'll hunt you down and take YOUR. . . non-existent cookies. . .

Or I'll cry. And you'll have to deal with the awkward girl who won't stop following you and howling and screaming and bawling. :P

I'm also staying Thursday evening through Monday morning with my group at least this year we will be closer to the action. I hated the fact that I had to walk about 2-3 blocks to go to Acen or the Cta Blueline.

There are fresh Cookies!!!!!!

What else is there at the hotel???

I'll try the gym too since I'll probably wake up early and don't want to wake others.

Depends on the department and a few other factors how staff rooming works, but I've said too much already D: D: D:

There's a lot at the hotel, actually. I'm really excited to hit up the pool this year. Never had a chance before, but it's gorgeous. You already know about the exercise room. . . There are vending machines on every floor, which is nice. Four elevators for guest use. They have a really small gift shop, a ballroom, a grand piano :), oh, and some REALLY comfortable couches in the lobby.

They also, if I recall correctly, have this nifty thing in the lobby that you can charge your iPod/cell phone/other devices without plugging them in. It's so cool! I need to try it this year.

Cookies are always relevant to my interests. :D Yeah the rooms did look spacious, I have a King room, which is okay since its only me and the BF. I really liked that there is an actual shower and a tub, that's pretty cool.

The only thing about the shower and tub, is that there is no curtains or anything around the tub. So, I mean, two people can obviously bathe in there at the same time, but it might make for some awkward!times

Last year was my first year at Acen, and I also stayed at the double tree. The hotel itself looks great, nice workout room and nice pool. Our room just had a problem with the staff. We had to go to the front desk around 3-4 times to ask for a coffee maker (for ramen), and we still never got one by our check out day. It's possible that the staff were just extremely busy and kept forgetting, but either way, other than that little instance, the place was great.

Someone else who discovered the ramen trick! Yes! I found out how to make ramen with their coffee maker back in 2009, my first year. I was so freaking excited. XD

There isn't one in the room? What kind of crappy motel is this, lol. They do not want to deny me my caffeine. I'll make sure to ask for one when I check in on Thursday, hopefully they're not super busy then.

Whoa, seriously? That must have been an accident. We had one last year.. I know, because I HAD to try the ramen thing after listening to Amelko talk about it for a few months. xD

I've yet to ever be in a hotel that didn't have a coffee maker. It was probably just some sort of accident.

I actually was reading reviews on Expedia and some guests said the same thing- that you have to request them because they're not in the room. Seems kind of silly for such a classy hotel, but what can you do. Not too big of a deal asking for one.

I would not suggest going to the Motel 6. They do not have one in their rooms. I was so sad when I saw that. :'(

I'm pretty sure both times I stayed there, we had coffee makers. . . Actually, I know for a fact we had one my first year, and that's when we had a room with a king-sized bed and a pullout sofa. I don't remember one for our 2-queen room last year, but then again, I was barely in the room last year, so I may not remember. XD I'm wondering now if they only offer the coffee makers in the king-bed rooms. *ponders*

Just booked two rooms there myself!! I enjoy the double tree!! I stayed there last year, and I always found the staff to be rather nice! The pool is a pleasant plus! After walking around for hours on end, soaking my feet at the end of the day (or night!) is to die for! Well, probably not to die for.. but it's a good feeling, I guarantee it!!

Suppose I could try it next year. I always stay at the Hyatt so I have quick access to my room but, eh, maybe I'll like the hotel more.

They're the same distance away, lol. So you should still have quick access. :)
