*Zone of the Enders (PS2)

I think many people have heard of Zone of the Enders; it's just not talked about much since you can beat it in the same time as someone watching a movie.

Still an excellent game that's fun to replay every now and then, though.
...
Wait, we're talking about the sequel, The 2nd Runner, right? Since the first Zone of the Enders was horrible.

I meant both ZoE games, but the sequel WAS a lot better I admit. I guess it's only obscure where I am. Almost no one has heard of it even in my tiny circle of gaming friends. It makes me sadface when I mention it and get a "huh whut" face from people.

The Mystical Ninja (Ganbare Goemon) series.
I've briefly sampled the SNES and GB ones, but didn't get a proper experience. I want to give one a fair shot some day.

I've been listening to this a bunch lately: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=lPlq6gbksnY
And I haven't even played the game. I really want to, but I only have a Mac and it requires a PC.

SaGa may be my favourite 'obscure' series. So far I've played a few hours of FF Legend for Game Boy. (Only FF in name - in Japan it's title translates to "Warrior in the Tower of the Spirit World ~ Sa·Ga")
I've also played SaGa Frontier for PlayStation. I think they're under-appreciated, in the US at least, because they don't tell you where to go and don't barrage you with text at every turn. I like the unique growth in different classes, like the Monsters for example. You defeat an enemy and get it's meat, which you can choose to eat and that will change that Monster's attacks and stats and all. Most of all I like the wandering and free-roam exploration of SaGa, especially in SaGa Frontier. These games really have endless hours of play for me in the future, I look forward to playing more!

Rez is sort of obscure. It's a fusion of music and on-rails shooter. The music really drives it.
I also love playing with many music/creative games like Art Style: light trax, Bit.Trip (WiiWare), Electroplankton (DS), Flipnote Studio (DSiWare), Game Boy Camera, Inchworm Animation (DSiWare), KORG DS-10 (DS), M-06 Guitar Simulator (DS), Mario Paint (SNES), Otocky (FDS), Rytmik (DSiWare), WarioWare D.I.Y. (DS). I really adore games like this. The fusion of music, art, and interactive interface yields endless hours of creative fun.

EarthBound/Mother is a lovely series. The humour, happiness and sadness, and offbeat themes really drive the series. Not to mention awesome music and unique graphics. It's exactly what I want out of an RPG. EB/Mother used to be more obscure but it's gotten more popular than it was, which is fine because sometimes you meet a person who's actually played. I just finished EarthBound Zero (Mother, the first game) recently for Starmen.net's MOTHER Fanfest.

Dark Cloud 2 for PS2. Pretty freakin huge RPG, that went fairly under rated.

Love that game so much.

Dark Cloud 1 and Rogue Galaxy are also both really good games made by the same company.

Okage Shadow King is one of my favorite obscure PS2 games.

Edit: I'll also throw out some love to the Dino Crisis series. RE should of stayed more horror based and DC should have become what RE4 and RE5 are today. (imo)

out of all of the shity movie licence games on the nes there is always one that stick out as a somewhat good game, and that is the batman game base on the 1989 film. it kind of played a bit like ninja gaiden and about as hard too, and still have the charm of nes movie games where there are things in the game that are no way in the movie, like the joker shooting lighting from the sky like he is raiden. it also have a good soundtrack.

another good game base on a movie was the terminator game for the sega CD, it was a basic action game with solid gameplay and a rocking soundtrack.

I don't button mash, I have an easier technique that deals with straddling the controller with my hand. Hard to explain the rest, but its much faster than pressing a button, think strumming a guitar. Anyway, I wound up with a nice gash due to friction >_<

How about Champions of Norrath/RTA for PS2? I know I played the crap out of it in '04 and I still toss it in my old PS2 every once in a while.

Has anyone played Metal Assault from AeriaGames.com?
It's really fun. Kinda like an MMO Metal Slug. Very similar to Gunster of Ijji.com.
Download it now, it's awesome.

Wow... I AM an otaku.... I knew the first three and somewhat heard of the fourth on your list there. That made my day ^_^

Hmm... I was hoping to mention Godhand on PS2... made by Clover Studios (people behind Okami) and I'm playing through it a little every time I have friends over. It's a pretty sweet game.

Does anyone remember Star Ocean Till the End of Time for PS2 or the Star Ocean series at all? I thought it was rather rad myself... I loved the inventing elements to it and the many difficulty levels it offered. Not to mention you could play as any character in the party and perfect their skillset.

Yeah, I'll agree, but story, atmosphere, and music usually win me over when it comes to rpgs since I don't play them anymore, haha. I love Shadow Hearts 1, the second was good, not great, but good, and the third was just... a game. :P

I thought the first Shadow Hearts had a better story, while the sequel vastly improved upon the combat. Third one was... meh.

Here's a few of mine:

* Sweet Home (NES, Japan-Only, Played on an Emulator back in the day, kind of a Resident Evil RPG, very fun!)
* Rock 'N Kats (Simple Platform Game on the NES from Atlus about a blue cat named Willy who used a gun that shot a fist out, lol. I was so addicted to it as a kid!)
* Mystical Ninja Series like mentioned earlier.
* Chuck Rock: Genesis and Sega CD
* The Adventures of Willy Beamish on Sega CD

Gregory Horror Show. Enough said.
Well it's mostly obscure because it was only released in Japan and Europe. ;w; But even then it's still pretty obscure and niche

I saw Dark Cloud a few pages back. YES. I loved that game. The first and 2nd were both awesome.

Game that isn't obscure yet but I think will be in the next year or two: Boom Blox! The physics in that game are amazing and is one of the few games on Wii that actually utilizes motion and doesn't feel tacked on because it has too (yes, I consider the majority of motion gaming a waste, sorry gang.)

Going back to for sure obscure games: Space Station Silicon Valley on N64!! That game was so fun and unique! I want to play again! Rockstar (I belive they're the ones with the rights to DMA Design's games) be a pal and release it on any of the download services likes Virtual Console, PSN, or XBLA, I'd really appreciate it. K thx
