Out of boredom and memories of being lost on the convention grounds, I had an idea of making a Google map of the con area. On this "survival" map will be food, stores and general areas of interest. I went ahead and placed the cosplay meetup locations on the map as well. Expect updates for the 2011 convention!

http://bit.ly/survivalmap

NOTICE PART DUEX!
Since I'm no longer an active part of this convention, I will not be updating this map. I have opened it up to the general public to edit. I'm very glad people have found it useful. If someone wants to take ownership of this map, I'll gladly give it to you.

Happy Updating!

I think this is a neat idea for those who aren't familiar with the area. It's not useful for me since I live near the area and know the area well, but it should be useful for someone who doesn't. =3

Yeah, that's the idea - to help guide the new people and ones who aren't from the area. I live in Chicago and I still get lost everytime I drive to Rosemont :-P

How do you edit the map? This seems like a really good idea, I'd like to contribute ^^

Thank you SO much for posting this map. I love that there's a Giordano's Pizza nearby. What better way to get a taste of Chicago than eat a pizza from there? On nom nom. Anyways, I will printy this soon & keep this handy. I was raised in Chicago but I still don't know my way around this area= noob T_T;;

Meh, Giordano's is still a little too touristy for my taste, but it's still good :-P

I'm slowly updating the map as I think of things to put in there. I'm most likely going to lock it next month so people have a solid map to work off of. I'm also going to try to see if I can make the links a little more friendly so people can put it in their iphones, etc. Stay tuned for updates :)

Speaking as a lifelong Chicagoan who's witnessed the creation and rise of this delicassy, Giordano's is a fairly decent restaurant chain, but their Chicago style pan pizza is only their version of it, which is pretty much the same mass-production quality as you can find in the freezer at your local grocery store. If you want the real thing, you need to go to Lou Malnatti's, which was founded by the very chef that created the recipe while working at the now famous Pizzaria Uno. Their original location is a few suburbs over in Lincolnwood, but WELL worth the drive.

Thank you, I always enjoy getting advice from my favorite food- Pizza! I have actually never heard of Lou Malnatti's but I looked online and see that there's a few locations around Chicago, which is a lot more easy for me to access. I'm really looking forward to going there sometime this month. Thank you for the recommendation.

Great idea. This'll be my first ACEN, as well as my first Rosemont, so it's nice to know I won't be totally lost. Thanks.

No problem. I always enjoy helping people discover best there is. A quick tip- your first two words when ordering should be "Pan, buttercrust...". ;)

I just wish there was a Lou's closer to Rosemont.

All this pizza talk is making me hungry

I have the map working on Android phones. If someone wouldn't mind testing it on an iPhone, or other various smartphones, I'd appreciate it!

I entered that address in Safari on my iPhone and it switched to the Maps application, but I don't see any of the places marked, just the general area.

This is what I see on my screen

This is a very nice idea though, even if I cant' seem to get it to behave for me :)

There is a Lou's over in Elk Grove on 72 (Higgins Rd) between Okton, and Arlington Heights Rd.

You also forgot a few things on the map, the Convention food court, and We are in Hall A this year, which is in the convention center on the side closest to the Hyatt.

I'm not putting indoor stuff on the map. There is only so much you can do with Google maps.

Excellent map - I propose this goes into the program guide for next year, and at the very least, I will make sure it is on the Congoer 101 guide (appearing soon!).

And yes, I have checked the rights, and Google does allow print reproduction, as long as it's identifiable as theirs (and the text/coloring covers that - unique shades and font).
