To me its between this and Daishocon in Wisconsin for a fall/winter convention this year. While I get free room at my friends place up there, it's a 5 hour drive. And this is just up the freeway from ACen. This however is its first year yes? So it could go either way then.

Decisions decisions.

So, for real, is this convention really happening? I guess I do believe something will occur at the convention site during the scheduled weekend, but will it really be "something"? I'm asking because the bare bones website hasn't been touched in months. There's barely any info on there, and the show's coming up sooner than we think. I'd ask about this in their forums, but that place is dead too. And since this is a first year show (a dubious fact in and of itself), it's not like they have any sort of track record to go by. It all just points to poor planning and organization on their part. And poor planning along with poor organization tends to lead to a poor convention experience, doesn't it? They're not giving us much of a reason to expect anything other than a major letdown, are they?

Despite what it might look like there is a lot of planning going into the con right now and those plans have to be gone over to make sure they're actually decent and then they can be passed along to the public. I'm not saying anything bad about Youmacon(Nor am I singling them out), I work for them as well and think that it's a wonderful convention, but it's coming up sooner that Kollision is and doesn't really have a great deal of information up on the main page. Yes, they have more than Kollision but they've also been around for several years and have a lot more that they can recycle. Our staff is absolutely wonderful and many of them are so much more organized than anyone would expect of them and we're all working extremely hard to get this thing going so that it can have a great first year and we can continue it in the years after.

That being said, get involved. I understand the hesitance to go to a first year con that no one knows about and seems like it's disorganized but if people remain hesitant then it won't have any room to grow. You had mentioned not saying anything on the forums because they were dead? Then get on there and make conversation, ask questions, make suggestions. We're all very open and want to know what the people want and how we can make them want to come to the con.

Since this is a first year con, I am going to only attend one day. If it's awesome I'll stay all day and perhaps the night, if not Gameworks and bars are nearby :D

Well, I have a specific interest in the artist alley. I'd like to perhaps get a table myself. Within the artist alley topic of the forums, there are two threads, only one of them with any responses. The last response in that thread was a post by someone asking how to go about signing up for this aforementioned artist alley. That post was made on June 26-- over 30 days ago. No one bothered to answer. And seeing how the same "information is forthcoming" paragraph has been on the main website page for the artist alley/exhibit hall for months and months, what are we supposed to think?

There has been no way for any exhibitors or artists to even begin to know how they should sign up to attend, so there is zero reason to think they have made any headway in crafting an exhibit hall or artist alley (in terms of getting actual people to sign up). This doesn't bode well for the overall convention experience for attendees, does it? And conversely, the average attendee can see the "information forthcoming" page just as well as I can. They'll know as of yet no one has signed up and perhaps this will make them more skeptical about attending. It hurts attendance, which in turn will also hurt whatever exhibit hall or artist alley the convention is able to scrounge up, if that ever happens. Would I really want to even sign up for the artist alley if I'm thinking people are questioning whether they should even attend? I can't help but think of last year's Reactor. A tiny trickle of people showed up. It was a nightmare.

Meanwhile, WindyCon is happening that same weekend in the Chicago area (and they have info available on their website). I'm unfamiliar with both shows, and would normally probably be a bit torn about how to decide between the two, but Kollisioncon isn't putting up much of a fight, is it?

Well it's $40 for a weekend pass. Which is pretty darn high for a first year con. $30 for a single day is insane too. I've been trying to follow the website for months since I'm so close but no new info shows up so I'm very skeptical about it. At this point my instincts are telling me to stay away.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about going to a first year con, but it also sounds like it will be a lot of fun :] My group and I will be going all three days and we can't wait! I just hope lots of people show up :x

...pffft. I have summer cosplays and winter cosplays. Even Rainy Day cosplays. I'm like an elite soldier of cosplay. I'm ready for any weather, and I intend to use my outfits for such occasions, especially since I've been doing it for about seven to eight years now! I went to ducKon and it was, like... Oh my goodness. crazy thunderstorm-rain-and-winds-and-such. I just stood outside at night in full costume just enjoying nature's show as the rain drizzles off the brim of my cap and flecks off my overcoat. really is quite an amazing feeling you get.

No con is like Reactor. Thats because Reactor wasn't really a con. It was a giant party masquerading as an anime con. I don't think anyone ever went to Reactor expecting to see an anime con.

LMAO! I completely agree with you! and I would only attend Reactor if it was the LAST one. and I did..... and somebody stole stuff from out hotel room.... really nice stuff too. what a waste. At least i was able to buy some replacement shoes with the money i WOULD have spent for a badge... but decided to instead enjoy the music in the hotel room.

at any rate, Kollision Con will be on my priority list over WindyCon this year, and since it is a fledgeling Convention then I intend on NOT paying the discount rate and instead at-door. you guys deserve the extra dollars. I don't want to see another potentially awesome thing go the way of KazeCon back in '03... which was also my first anime convention ever. T.T I might even make a charitable donation.

I love that so many people want to come! I'm also on staff for Kollision Con and I can assure you that we (the staff) are doing all we can to make this an awesome convention that people will want to come back to for years to come! We're trying to get information out as fast as we can but there's a lot of things we want to make sure on so that there's no confusion when the information goes public. Keep checking back at the site and forums at kollisioncon.com!!

I might go just to wander around see what it's about before deciding to pick up a badge or not... It's really close to me but I am skeptical about the price being worth it for a first year con.

I thought it might be prudent to let you know what kind of people are running Kollision Con:

I made a post in their forum yesterday pertaining to the artist alley. I was pointing out the fact that I thought it was ridiculous that their listed full-refund date (which has since been changed) to get money back for artist alley tables was August 31st (tomorrow), while the actual tables haven't even been made available to purchase yet (still no telling when that will occur)

I was taken aback today when I went back to the forum only to see that my post had been edited and altered, without any notice from any sort of moderator. It seems they took notice of my post and hurriedly went to update their artist alley refund dates (as they are now posted on the website). I guess now the listed full refund date is something like 25 days away (though tables are still not available to purchase at this point) but instead of updating the thread with a new post of their own with this new, updated information, they altered my post!

In my post I was bemoaning the fact that artist alley tables were not yet available for purchase, and yet the full refund date was only 2 days away (I'm paraphrasing here). The post was changed to have me declaring that while the artist alley tables are not available, the full refund date is "25 days away." My intent was to express displeasure about the way they are doing things, and they altered that by editing it. They made it seem like I was extolling the virtues of having a full refund date that was such a long way away.

The point is: They lie.
I expressed displeasure about the way this convention, by all accounts, appears to be running, and they edited it to make it seem like I was saying something else. Instead of being honest and forthright with their own voices, they thought it would be a better idea to alter my voice. And to be clear, my post had zero foul language, rudeness, or misinformation. I was simply expressing my frustration with how the artist alley, and by extension, the convention as a whole, was being run. I told them they weren't painting a pretty picture.

And let me tell you, this whole censorship episode isn't helping matters!

But really folks, this speaks to a bigger issue. They don't have their stuff together, and if they tell you they do they could very well be lying (as they were in this case). I have no axe to grind here. I simply was interested in perhaps getting an artist alley table. That was all.

FYI, I have since deleted the post of mine that they altered, as well as the rest of my posts on that board. I want nothing more to do with them.

I read your post yesterday and I didn't find it to be rude. You were just informing them that the full refund date was 2 days away and artist alley registration isn't even open yet while expressing frustration.

It's unfortunate that you were treated the way you were treated.

Just a question, has anyone else submitted a panel/event/or something for this con? I kinda feel like I'm the only one who got something. I got a room, time, date, etc. to run my event, but I haven't heard from anyone else who may be running something during the con.

So far I haven't had any bad experiences with them in terms of communication. What is everyone else doing?

I was playing around with the idea of going to this con, but after Shadys experience on the forums, the price, & the complete lack of information, I have decided not to. I love the idea behind it. If it returns & this one goes well, next year I might go.

As I stated in another post, I have been asked about both my panels and when I would like to run them.

I've also been contacted about joining staff, but I don't have a room, time or date or anything like that for my panels.

Edit: Well, the thread about asking if the con is even happening got deleted. Soy and I even posted advice in that thread and the whole thing got deleted.

They seem to be experiencing an extreme case of DELETE. ****ING. EVERYTHING or butthurt. This isn't a good sign. Unless the whole thing is being orchestrated by rookies, which I seriously hope isn't the case.

Hi guys!

So I know that this issue hasn't been dealt with in the best way but it's been brought up and we're going to change some approaches to things based on it.

That being said I'd like you to look at it from our perspective. Shady, your post was not edited due to you being rude or us trying to make you look bad. You pointed out information that needed to be changed and we changed it. Instead of posting a response to your post we, instead, edited your post so that there wouldn't be any confusion for anyone looking to the forums for information. Yes, we should have informed you before doing this and I apologize and promise all of you that we will work on fixing this in the future. However, as was previously mentioned this was not done as an attack on you.

I am honestly not sure of what other posts have been deleted besides the one about the con not happening but I can assure you this was only done because of the nature of the post. The post was rather rude and was worded in a way that made it appear as though the poster were trying to rally an army. It was an unnecessary post that was of no informational value to anyone. I'm sorry if anyone's suggestions that were posted in response were deleted along the way but we are still very interested in your opinion and ask that any comments or questions be directed at us through email so as to avoid any complications such as this in the future.

That being said, everyone keeps pointing out that we are a first year con, I'm sorry if it seems like we don't have our act together but there are some things that need to be sorted out still and we are trying our very best to do this as we go along. We already have so many things that we are planning on improving for next year and we're trying our hardest to make this the best it can be for everyone this year. I just ask that you please give us a chance because everyone involved is extremely committed and without attendees bearing with us through the rough patches this year then we might not be able to give it another shot to make it better for you guys.

Do they have panels and stuff up yet? Or what's going down there, because then I might consider going if they have some cool stuff up.
