Hey everyone! I'm going to crossplay as Uchiha Madara from Naruto next year, but the problem I have is the armor... I have never attempted to make any sort of armor before, so... this will be interesting...

Since I have no idea how to make it, or what to use, I'm asking you, my fellow cosplayers, if you have advice/tips/tutorials about how to make armor.

Madara has more of a samurai-style armor than like a knight's.

And here's some ref pictures of Madara-

Okay.

So, yes. I've been looking around, I've seen people using types of plastic for their armor, and my friend just recently told me about craft foam.

So yes, help is appreciated!

I know someone who is making the same costume, but I dont know what his armor is going to be made out of. I can ask.

Aside from that, I love using plastic for armor. The stuff I use is called sintra, and its primarily used for signs. You can heatform it, sand it, paint it, and its easy to cut. The only trouble I had with using it for full armor is that it was pretty restricting; I really couldnt sit down in it.

Here is the costume Im talking about with the full armor.

I love the plastic for its rigidity and durability. Anything like craft foam or fabric not backed with a stiff material will most likely wrinkle up and look tacky.

If you have any specific questions about using plastic for armor or how to attach it, just PM me.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to see which is best, and if you could make that Knives, I might be able to make Madara's armor out of PVC... were you able to move around in it? That will be an issue for me, because Madara is a costume I'd like to be able to wear during the con, not just for photoshoots.

Click on the little magnifying glass in the upper right hand area above the photo, it will zoom in and let you drag the image around.
