My brother was the first to show me anime in 99'. It was a combination of Ranma 1/2 and Tenchi. ^_^ I'd say it was an interesting start.

I began regularly watching anime in 1993, and the first anime was Ranma 1/2.

BTW, was Ranma 1/2 ever on TV in the US? It seems like many people have said this was one of their firsts.

well well, ladies and gents, my first anime was... *shock of shocks* The Guyver. I was about 4 or 5 at the time, so I cant say I really understood it as well as I now do... but I was just a kid back in 1993.

The anime that got me addicted for life? Mobile Suit Gundam. Not that Gundam Wing BS, the ORIGINAL.

I really started watching anime probably between 2001-2005. My first was Rurouni Kenshin on Cartoon Network. Then others followed: Full Metal Alchemist, The Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, .hack//Legend of the Twilight, Yu-Gi-Oh, Trigun, etc. Though at the time I didn't know this was anime, but I guess really my first was Sailor Moon.

i don't know the exact year because i was little. i remember my uncles watching akira and the image of it always stuck in my mind . when i was like 12 or 13 i bought the vhs and watched it over and over. my love for anime grew from there. outlaw star was the first series i ever watched. lol saying that makes me feel old because i was watching adult swim before people really got into it.

i think akira was released in 89' and i was born in 88' so..i was like..1 years old when i watched my first anime.

I had no idea what anime was until summer of 2008.
A friend introduced me to Chobits, so that was basicly my first ever anime. But I still didn't know what Anime was.
My friend told me about Bleach, and how it was on the Cartoon Network at night.
Then each day I watched Bleach on Youtube, from Episode 1 all the way to around 78.
Then I started watching it on TV, and then lost track.
So, I've been reading the Manga, but only on book 10.
Then my intrests grew from there.
And now I'm kind of obsessed. >>;
My mom and sister think I'm crazy. :\
But I found friends at school who are also interested in Anime/Manga
And My step brother is into it too, so thats a plus.

Mine was Speed Racer and an episode of Dragon Ball when I was 5 years old...so I guess in 1992 then is when. I didn't start to watch it seriously until Toonami made anime available on tv much more easily =)

I had to have been about 8 or 9 when I started watchin anime. I'm pretty sure it was Tenchi Muyo or something that initially got me hooked.

I used to watch Dragonball Z, pokemon, and Miyazaki films , starting when I was in about 2nd grade.

I learned what anime was 2 years ago, right before my first Acen.

Humm... it depends. I started watching anime on Cartoon Network and Fox (Sailor Moon, DBZ, Tenchi, Gundam, Speed Racer, etc), but I didn't know what anime was. It was just another cartoon to me. I started to really dive into the anime culture in about 2002 when I started watching Anime Unleashed on TechTV (much as it says in my profile XD ).

I think the biggest mistake they made was going to weekends exclusively. They lost a lot of "after school chill-out" crowd.
