Not only is that completely stupid and immature, it's dangerous. The driver of the next car is most likely only watching the person directing traffic, not the pedestrians, and therefore would have gone as soon as he got the ok from IRT and could hit any con goer dumb enough to run across anyway.

Kudos to this IRT guy for jumping in and trying to help the situation. :)

If I'm not mistaken, one girl DID get hit by a car during the con, or so I heard from a staffer. I was stunned all weekend by the blasť attitude of congoers who just walked out into the street in front of traffic! Thanks to the IRT people who tried to keep them in one piece by herding people onto the sidewalks, especially when there were long lines outdoors (such as the one for Anime Hell).

I'd like to say a special "You're awesome!" to the IRT fox guy who was managing the line for Whose Line is it Anime on Saturday. I didn't catch the name on his badge but he was wearing a tail and fox/cat ears. He was amazing and kept the quickly-growing line organized and entertained. Many many kudos to him!

I know saturday night there was rumor someone got hit by a car so one of our medics went to deal with it, but turned out it was car vs car incident. But I do traffic control also and i tell u i would get frustrated also if someone decided to pull its their turn and run across the street. I hate to say it and be mean, but I would side with the driver on this and say the car had the right away until the pedestrian decided to jaywalk and suddenly run in front of the car.
I hope congoers use common sense. Take it from someone who has actually directed traffic and still does for emergency management and to assist police in it, Make sure you have a right away before walking, make sure the car knows your crossing, but at the same time dont just backup traffic because you are a pedestrian. There is a skywalk over the street and there are crosswalks. USE THEM. Your own safety is the issue.

That's my broom! *giggle* My friends joke that I'll be that crazy cat lady (I only have two cats!) who chases kids off the lawn with the broom... but I have a long way to go before then. It helps when most people think that I'm 5 or so years younger than I actually am.

Ahh... time to hit the ACen forum boards once again.

As with Wraith, I'm a tunnel rat, and dont get a chance to see the con goers all too often. That being said, I probably find myself amongst them more than anyone else in my "section" as I love doing crowd control. All things concidered, sparing the few annoying encounters, everyone was really cool this year.

As for the dude that was directing traffic... *waves* right here. Friday and Saturday nights when I'm technically "off shift" I'll hang out with crowd control and help manage the lines for the major events. By the time I show up they're usually hurting for some reinforcements and I have easily one of the top 3, if not THE loudest, voice on IRT. That traffic situation was nuts though. Talk about a horrible combination of events... dealer room closing, lines forming, and rush-hour traffic. And dont worry about the people that throw insults and question our authority... most of the time I'll sick a higher up on them and they get their badge revoked.

Pretty much look for a REALLY big line after about 5pm on Friday or Saturday and I'll be somewhere around there. I mean its not like I'm hard to spot... most of the time I wear either a kilt, a motorhead t-shirt, or a paddy cap... and I have long (or it will be next year at least) hair. I'm a bit of a jerk most of the time... but I dont mean anything by it. I just come off as a huge jackass most of the time - so just imagine me with pink cat ears or something and I'll probably be tolerable :)

"single file, stay to the left.... STAY ON THE SIDEWALK"

PS. Oh... by the way, thank you guys (in retrospect) for being as cooperative with line management as you were. Talking to you con attendees out there. It makes our jobs so much easier when we dont have to deal with unruly lines. Hell... the lines were so docile and law-abiding this year I went around yelling at people for not making trouble :\

I would like to thank IRT at the Soapbubble line. My friends were carrying their bags and were told we couldn't have them, but as soon as the inhalers in them were mentioned, they were like "Oh, that's okay then. Just show them at the door." They were really polite about, especially when they realized we couldn't carry them otherwise, we all were wearing short skirts and corsets. We went through the conversation about 3 times with different IRT and all of them were very polite about it. They didn't make us get out of line to check the bags or anything. Thanks, you guys! I know it was stressful that night, thanks for keeping your cool!

Think I may have been one of those operatives during that time. I was the guy who had two of the same Callsign tag on his vest who was trying (and struggled a bit) to keep the congoers from getting out of hand at the beginning of the indoor line. I was also the first person in said line to be checking badges. Sorry for any inconvenience about the bags. I was given a general order of "no bags allowed" and then got amended later on with the condition of allowing them as long as they had important stuff in them (like your inhaler.)

I want to thank IRISH as he helped me out with a lot of things.
And Bunni! Thank you for the water you had gotten someone to get me. I was really dehydrated standing in that line!

ALL OF THE IRT WERE REALLY NICE AND I WAS GLAD THEY COMMENTED ON MY COSTUME TOO. I NEVER GET COMPLIMENTS FROM THEM FOR THE PAST FIVE.. IDK IT MADE ME SMILE THAT THEY WENT OUT OF THERE WAY TO TALK TO ME, A RANDOM COSPLAYER. IT WAS NICE TO TALK TO ALL OF YOU, INSTEAD OF SEEING YOU BEHIND THE SCENES. I ALSO LIKED THE FACT THAT WHEN I LOST SOMETHING THEY IMMEDEIATLY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP ME. YOU WERE ALL DOING A GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!! KEEP IT UP

AND YES

they IRT are sexy.. >.>

Not a problem I remember the situation and you needed it i wasn't about to deny you some sort of comfort. Lines are miserable experiences. Hope you had a wonderful convention.

Are you the ones with the adorable extra poofy purses? Ya sorry for making you open it so we could see all your personal affects but we had to make sure people were not bringing in drugs and alcohol. I told you to keep out the inhalers just to show all the IRT that I'm sure would be questioning you. Sorry for the bother though just trying to make it safe and enjoyable. Yes you ladies were wearing very attractive ensembles and were very pleasant when confronted. I thank you for being pleasant with us makes our day when we deal with nice congoers.

If it's not exhaustion it's bad food from a restaurant >.< or almost losing my pinky toenail from running in very pointed toe boots during an incident with IRT >.< it grew back :D! lol
IRT, I now understand your rule about wearing sneakers..

Anyways people who are thinking of volunteering, there is one thing that definitely happens when you do become part of staff. You end up in a great and LARGE family, not only do you get rewarded with being in the family, you help improve ACen.
