Anime Central Rules

Thank you for coming to Anime Central! For those who are new – welcome! For those who are returning – welcome back! These rules are designed to help people be safe and let everyone have a good time, and they apply to attendees, staff, vendors, artists, and guests alike.

General Rules

  • We reserve the right to:
    • Ask for valid government-issued identification.
    • Ask to inspect the contents of bags, backpacks, and purses.
    • Deny entrance to an event for safety reasons, fire code limits, etc.Keep it PG-13 unless you’re in an 18+ area.
  • Anything that is illegal outside the convention is illegal inside the convention. Anime Central does not condone illegal activities, including but not limited to smoking/drinking under the legal age or in public, providing alcohol to minors, or using illegal substances or paraphernalia. Perpetrators will be turned over to the police.
  • Don’t do anything that risks the safety of any attendee.
  • Don’t deface or damage property or equipment. You are responsible for the cost of anything that you damage.
  • If a staff member, hotel employee, or Rosemont Police Officer tells you to stop a certain behavior, respect their requests.
  • Do not drop anything from the interior or exterior balconies of the hotel.
  • No play-fighting is allowed on convention premises. Still poses are OK, mock-combat is not.


  • Our event strives to be family-friendly, but we do not provide a child care service. Your kids are your responsibility. Lost children will be presented to Rosemont Police for help in finding their parents.
  • We discourage parents from bringing children without a parental escort and/or a means of location/communication.
  • Local curfew laws dictate that persons 17 and under, unless registered guests of the hotel or accompanied by a legal guardian, must be off hotel grounds by midnight.
  • Parents will be held responsible for damages done by their minor children.

Costumes and Props

These rules are for costumes worn around the convention. If you aren’t sure whether your costume or prop is acceptable, you may ask a staff member at any time!

A costume or prop is unacceptable if it does any of the following:

  • Fails to comply with local laws.
  • Leaves your feet bare.
  • Has vulgar remarks or hate speech in any language.
  • Has dangerous protrusions such as spikes or sharp edges.
  • Is a costume that extends more than six inches from your body in any direction. (For example, if your costume has a tail, you may hold it next to your body, but not let it trail out behind you.)
  • Is a prop that is longer than your height. If you are less than four feet tall, your props may be up to four feet long. Props that are too long may be carried in pieces and reassembled for pictures.
  • Impedes the view of others during seated events.
  • Has a tightly-strung bowstring.
  • Has a laser pointer or similar capability.
  • Has parts made of live steel. Live steel is defined an object crafted from metal that has a point or blade-like edge, whether blunt or sharp. Live steel purchased from vendors must stay boxed while in convention space.
  • Is a gun-like prop without an orange tip. Gun-like props also must have their firing mechanisms disabled and have nothing loaded.
  • Is a real firearm.
  • Is being used or handled unsafely.
  • Is determined by convention staff to be unsafe. The Department Head of our Incident Response Team can render final say on the acceptability of any costume or prop.

Handling of Unacceptable Costumes and Props

If you are found with an unacceptable prop, we will ask you to take it to your room. If you are unable or unwilling, or this is a repeat problem, we may ask to confiscate the problem prop. Confiscated props may be claimed from 2 to 6 on Sunday by visiting Convention Operations, after which they will be disposed. You must bring a government-issued photo ID to claim your prop.

Special Large Events Rules

Concerts, Dances, and the Masquerade

  • No photography or recording is permitted during concerts.
  • No bags are permitted in the dances.
  • Line jumping, reserving spots and saving seats are not permitted.
  • If you need to use the washroom or get a drink of water while in line, let staff know so that you do not seem to be cutting in line when you return.
  • There is no coat or bag check, so make sure you have only what you need when you get in line.


There will be Incident Response Team members located on and operating each elevator:

  • To ensure that the weight limit is not exceeded.
  • So we can avoid any delays.
  • So we can keep the flow of traffic as smooth as possible.
  • The elevators are run on a computer system
  • Please press the Call button only once.
  • Do not hold the elevators open with your hands, please use the Open Door button inside the elevator.


If you feel that you have been treated unfairly during the event, please let us know immediately by going to customer service or approaching any member of our management staff. We welcome your feedback, and we need it if we’re going to keep improving!

Getting in Touch with Response Teams

The Incident Response Team (IRT) and Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT) are here to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience at Anime Central. If you need medical help or feel unsafe at any time, you can stop any IRT Member (easily recognizable by their distinctive black vests).
