THE GLOMP GAME

It's been played at Sakura con, with 100+ people playing at once, and it was played at the anime con in Vancouver for all three days of the con, all day, with about 75 people playing at a time.

HOW TO PLAY:
Form a huge circle, and don't let there be any gaps in the circle! Have a good amount of empty plastic water bottles in the middle(example, if you have 50 people playing, have 10 bottles in the middle)!
Get people in the middle of the circle, and start spinning the bottles! You spin the bottle, and to who ever in the circle it points to, you run over to(or, walk, you must be careful!) and give them an awesome hug! That person who you hugged then goes into the middle of the circle, spins a bottle, and continues on!
You can leave the game anytime, or join it anytime!

Only thing is, you have to like hugs! And hugging strangers!

At random points in the game, a group hug can be called on someone! Often, if someone is leaving, a group hug will be called! Or, even just randomly, a group hug will be called! When one is called, everyone runs(VERY CAREFULLY) and hugs in a giant mass of hugging-ness! You just have to be careful not to push anyone!


RULES: (these are more of common sense)
-Respect people's personal space, and only give them bone-crushing hugs or picking-up-and-twirling hugs if you know they won't mind!
-Respect people's bodies and no touchy touchy! Hugs only!
-Be careful of cosplay!
-If you want to socialize, don't do it in the middle of the circle!
-MOST IMPORTANT! Recycle the bottles when the game is done! And clean up completely after yourselves!



This game is super fun, and a great way to make friends! If you're feeling lonely, join the game, and get some love! People may be weary of playing it at first(much like I was), but as soon as you play, you'll have fun. You might think it's silly, and that's okay! Just don't ruin it for the rest of us. ^^

I want to arrange a time to start this on friday, and a place! Help would be greatly appreciated, since I don't know the con area at all!

I hope people like this idea. ^^ Please post feedback and questions!

There's no need to be worried about being caught off guard ! ^___^ Since it's like spin the bottle, you know when someone's coming to you, or the person next to you, so on ~
Plus, the only time you get super big running glomps is when you know the person, or you know they won't mind ^_~

When we played here, we often had people shouting things like "I JUST LOST THE GAME."
If I see you/catch you doing this, I will be forced to yell at you, for a long long time XD

I'm in, I am awesome/fearsome at hugs...by which I mean everyone either loves or fears my hugs. I tend to give bone-crushy pick-up-and-twirl-y hugs...But I can hug soft, which I will do unless I have your express permission to do otherwise.

I would love to do this! Getting hugs and giving hugs is so good for the soul. It would be awesome if this happened on thursday as well.

Just a note to everyone, or anyone who has any problems with this:
In the anime community i'm in, there's a lot of problems with this game. This game is not meant to be sexual in ANY WAY, and is not a way for sexually repressed teens to get their.. sexualness.. out..

As for how long this'll last/when it'll start:
It'll start hopefully friday morning, after i've gotten my badge, and there's people around wherever we're meeting!
It can go on for as long as you people enjoy it, or for as long as you're bored.
From what I can tell though, acen isn't boring, so there will probably be times where this'll be dead, which is awesome. =] XD

That's about 1/4 of the circle. At my anime con, it was basically the same size(about 50-80 people playing at once). At that same meet though, we played again later with only about.. 10-20 people, and it was just as fun.

I remember a few years ago a game of spin the bottle happening by the giant statue on the first floor, but, I know recently they've been trying to keep areas clear and large groups out of the way so finding a good spot inside could be tricky. Some place that might work is in the actual convention center at the bottom of the stairs/escalators. It's usually pretty empty, like two years ago there was enough room for a Naruto photo shoot so I imagine there would be room for 50 or so people.

Is there anywhere outside by any chance? It'd be a lot more fun if it was outside. ^^

PLEASE remember that if you do this in the hallways instead of someone's private room, you'll be violating fire safety codes that could potentially lead to Anime Central getting kicked out of the Donald Stephens Convention Center venue.

Anime Central has already had enough trouble with people acting like total retards at the convention (and the police and fire department having to show up). Not to mention liabilities you could face if you have underage people participating. Statutory rape ring a bell? What if things get out of control? There are too many personal and public safety factors at risk to make this a good idea.

This is not a good idea. If you want to do it in your room, go right ahead. Just be sure to take down every participants complete medical history.

well what about the grassy are near the road. The naruto photoshoot went down there last year cuz of the massive amount of ppl. if it ends up getting to big we can just ask ppl who'd been there for a while to take a break and let newcomers in on it. It was a big space though... but then again it's on grass... >> maybe it's not such a good idea... XD plus the cars... my luck I'd turn and then trip 15 ft into the dang intersection >>.<<

Rini: As am I, but I don't know the convention area at all, so. I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like this to be outside.
And to whoever asked about the time/where: It'll start friday morning, and as long as people are entertained and keep playing, it can last till Sunday evening. At the con I go to, it started Friday morning and lasted till Sunday after noon. Only time it stopped was at night, during the raves/dances, and when it rained(for like, 3 hours), but even when it rained I think there were people outside playing it.

There's nothing wrong with underage people participating. By joining, they KNOW they'll be hugging people.
I've played this game MILLIONS of times before. Never once has it gotten out of control. How could is possibly get out of control? I'm sure all you con-goers are the exact same as the ones in Canada. This has been played at Sakura Con too, also an extremely large con that's IN THE STATES. So I don't know why you're saying this.
There is no reason for it getting out of control. You're spinning a bottle, and walking to a person and hugging them. If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave, or tell me(if i'm there) or tell a staff member, whatever. Point is, there are easy ways to avoid problems.
Public safety factors? You can feel free to list them for me, please.
You don't seem to have much faith in your fellow con goers. I know otaku are extremely retarded, annoying, and have problems knowing what's right from wrong in public, but it's not like they're going to be carrying knives and running at each other for hugs.
I have seriously played this way too many times, and don't see any concern at all.

Now that I think more about it, the area outside the parking lot with the fence in the grass is probably the best way to go. theres a lot of space and we can alwys shift a bit if it gets too big. If anyone went t the naruto photoshoot on Saturday last year that's where I'm talking about -where the Guy Sensai carried Kakashi! woo! - alright done with my randomness...>>

alright here's the link to the over view. the bright blue is where we were and the bright green and dark blue spots are possibilites. the area where we were is bigger than it looks and it's not so far away from where the crowd is for acen so more people might show up. but here's a look at it if you want. I can also find a bigger picture so you can see more if you'd like ^0^

the parking lot nearest the convention center is usually empty too an dpeople just hang out there so maybe there... it's the one across from the triangular like parking lot XD
