Hey everyone YAY I found my way back to this thread finally! XD I accidently found my old profile OneWing, which is actually on the first page of this thread...may I, rejoin? :D I was Obi Wan Glompnobi :D Glomp Team Jedi. Amunet invited me back yay :D Oh, btw? If you see me (AC Cloud) and you glomp me? When you turn around, I will so glomp you back. Harder. Pweeze, glomp me! :D
By the way...do you always have to ask to glomp someone? Or can you just be considerate like...don't glomp them if their costume is going to fall off...you know

Uh, I don't think you always have to ask to glomp people, but I do know it will be appreciated if you do. Some people can get rather paranoid and/or rigid, despite the awesome atmosphere of the con.

I do beg of people, if you're going to glomp me, ask me first, and be careful. It was partly for that reason last year of people not asking me, glomping me from the back, glomping me to rough, that I have to remake my Kirara paws. They just got distroyed. I'm top heavy with my head, and if it falls to one side, so do i. I did appreciate the very few people that tapped me on the shoulder and asked if they could glomp me, even though few of those few were actually gentle about it. One girl tried and hit her head on my cosutme head. Knocked me off balance for a while. XD So please, be considerate. Unless you know the person, it is usually prefered that you ask before you glomp, especially those people in costume. They worked hard, if they didn't want you to glomp them, you could send things spiraling in a completely different direction. Yes people are paranoid out there, espesially with hard worked costumes.
Thanks ^^

I too would like to request, though i dont know if any will, that people ask to glomp me. I am not used to this nor do i know how this works, so I would like to be asked if it is ok to glomp me. Much appreciated

In other things, I have no problems being glomped, just prefer to get a tap on the shoulder and asked first if possible, or just someone making a loud noise before hand if you want to glomp me from behind....
Especially if I carrying around a prop. I would prefer not to nearly stab someone with my wooden Tensa Zangetsu for my Ichigo costume.
Someone almost did last year at Youmacon, cause they didn't give me time to move it or at least set it down. Lets just say it almost took flight over the second story balcony onto the one of the Spoony Bards heads. Thankfully I sorta slid out of the way and let the person stumble as I handed my sword to Cloud cosplayer who was stannding nearby. Then I was like, 'now you can glomp me....

wait a minute, doesn't asking someone if you can glomp them sort of defeat the purpose? Isn't that half the point of a glomp?
one-wing
Apr 16 2007, 12:53 PM
Lol that's exactly what I thought FlyingElf XD well, this is how I've felt about it. If someone has a solid costume like Kagome or Tifa, what is there to fall apart that easily? I understand it's possible but you know. Obviously if it's like a Gundam or Ubaba from Spirited Away then you would want to ask first lol.

Well I dont understand the whole concept of "Glomping", but it really should be best to ask first unless that person states he/she has no problem with being without notice. Most people are not used to people grabbing on and hugging especially strangers. I personally wouldnt be comfortable with it cause i dont know the person and something might be going on at that time.
Amunet
Apr 16 2007, 01:18 PM
You got the right Idea wildcat

Basically ... yeah ... glomping is suppose to be random and fun and for some it is ... but there are SOME that would preferred to be asked. You can still dish out a good glomp after you ask permission and they allow it.
The reason why I'm making it so that it'd be best to ask is that you guys represent the Glomp Team and if you go around glomping with no regards to anyone else ... it would give a bad name to the team. Most people already view glomping as bad and we are just trying to prove it wrong.
Maybe this will help:
When to ask- If person looks stand-offish
- If person is in an elaborate cosplay
- If person is carrying around one or multiple props
- If person is in a precarious position (such as crowching down or body is twisted ... we want to avoid accidents)
- If you JUST DON"T KNOW! Better to ask then have a negative response.
-If person expresses in thread/forum that they wish to be asked first
When not to Ask- If person has GLOMP ME somewhere on their body
- If person doesn't have a costume that would fall apart during contact (still is polite to ask)
- If person is drunk with no drink in hand (this is REALLY funny XD but still ... it's nice to ask)
Glomping is like picture taking at a con. People prefer that you ask, it's polite. And, just like taking pictures, if you ask to glomp and they say no ... then no hard feelings, they will most likely be shocked/surprise/thankful that you asked in the first place

The term "glomp" has been so effing distorted over the years, I've given up preaching the correct definition and form. Now, most can't tell the difference between a glomp and a tackle. I miss the old nerdy, slightly odd, mild mannered otaku. Now cons are filled with hyper active pretentious noobs. I miss real glomps.
You can all ignore this. I was just pittying myself and anyone that has been to more than 15 cons. Sorry guys. lol.

Apr 16 2007, 10:50 PM
I swear, if anyone even tries to glomp me without asking, I will freaking go off on them. My costume is a hazzard not only to the person glomping me, but mostly to myself. If someone tries to glomp me and I'm not prepared, or they glomp me to hard, and I go down or stumble or hit my head on something, that Kirara head is made out of chicken wire, and hit wrong, could puncture something, or even break my neck especially falling certain ways. Almost happened last year. Creepy little stalker girl almost killed me more than once. She kept screaming everytime she saw me, everytime I did even the littlest thing, and she followed me everywhere, constantly trying to tackle me like she thought that it was safe or something. That's not going to stop me from wearing my costume, because honestly, con goers should know how to be respectful of others costumes.
Yes, if someone has a glomp me sign on or in some way you can tell they are just asking to be glomped, then by all means, just don't hurt them. A glomp does not have to mean that you pull the person to the floor, nor does it mean you have to do it by surprise. A glomp is still a glomp even if you have to ask to do it. It does not defeat the purpose in any way.
