[b]We have no room/location for a tea party for 2008.
I went to the Saturday Midnight Tea Party at Otakon, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in one at ACEN? It would be Saturday evening around 11:30. I am not very familiar with the ACEN setup, so preferably in a place that has quite a few tables and chairs.
If we want this to go down we need a few things to happen.
We would absolutely need people to bring some snacks (preferably small sandwiches and cookies, cute Lolita stuff.)
We would also need people to bring tablecloths napkins, plates, plastic-ware, and any other disposables we would need to keep everything organized.
We need people to bring tea, I know I could bring some, but I am coming from Detroit and I can't exactly being a bag full of containers to brew tea in.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: We *NEED* people to come dressed in Lolita clothes. No, your cosplay Inu-Yasha "Lolita" dress does not count. It would be nice to have a photo shoot afterward and it would suck to have bundles of pictures of cosplayers instead of Lolita's.
If you would like to help or just give me some feedback, the best way to get a hold of me is though email: Mechaangel@gmail.com

Ugh that sucks. I would have loved to attend. T_T Perhaps we can go to a resturant or something? I'm sure there are plenty of Loli's out in Rosemont that could help us out.

Actually I thought there contract said that they didn't allow third parties to SELL food, bringing food just to eat as long as there is no profit I was under the impression that that was allowed since that is why the tables are set up anyway.
Granted I'm not too sure though now but if it does allow people to gather with free food then I'll bring some tea and so forth since I have a room at the hyatt.

I’m pretty sure it’s plausible, but don’t count it against me if I’m wrong. Because there would be no money evolved, so no ones selling anything right? Because can’t we bring a sandwich, eat that sandwich in the lobby, and maybe give half to a friend. Technically wouldn’t this be the same thing but on a larger scale? Just tossing out thoughts because I think it would be fun!

Feb 12 2007, 04:56 PM
That was the idea, just bring food and share. No money at all.
If someone could offer up their room for a couple hours that would be awesome. If not, a restaurant could work too (although I am guessing not many will be open at midnight XD)
Its not really a party as much as it is a gathering, with snacks and beverages. Tea Party is just what you call it when people gather for tea. Its not really a party, no one is drinking or raving. Just a way to socialize and be comfortable.

I don't see why they wouldn't allow this... I mean, people gather and talk in the hotel all the time, the only difference is that this would include food. And it's not con-related. It's just people who are eating and drinking tea in the hotel while talking. That's it. Besides, if they do forbid it, then we can easily move it to a hotel room, which I KNOW they have nothing against people eating and talking in a hotel room.
And I would tottally be up for this. It sounds like something us nocturnalites would have fun doing together. ^^

To my understanding, it was against the con's contract last year.
I highly doubt that anything has changed since then.

Okay, so now no one is allowed to have a gathering, like for a photoshoot and bring a bottle of water or a pack of cheese-its?
Some how that does not make ANY sense to me.

Looks like I was mistaken. As long as the gathering is an independent function from the con, it's ok.
Sorry about that. I confused a gathering with a panel. I've been up almost 24 hours straight studying Organic Chemistry, so the brain isn't operating at 100%
Now where's that sweatdrop smilie when you need it???

I would check with someone though if your group gets very big because the hotel has brand new everything so I know they are crackin down on food in the main areas outside of the resturant areas. IF you think it might get messey maybe you will want to have it in a room, just a suggestion.Good luck!

worst case scenario is that someone can volunteer their room at one of the panels.
If it is in someone's room, that is probably how we would find out the room number and stuff anyway.

OoOoOoO I just noticed that this is going to be competing with the Soap Buble on Saturday night =( I'm not too sure if I will be attending now. Hey maybe there can be one on Friday night too? I think that only runs into the underground groove thing which I don't think is as popular. I wouldn't mind bringing extra cookies and stuff if enough people would be interested in a Friday night tea party.

Since I will be following Cuddles116 for most of the weekend, I would also like to put in a request for a Friday night gathering, because we were unable to attend the Saturday Bubble last year. I'll bring tea as well as coffee if there are those who would prefer that. I am going to be testing a couple recipes before I officially state what kinds of food that I will be bring though I'm pretty sure there will be biscotti and possibly some kind of small cakes (petit fours, if you prefer).
Sorry to say my room is also completely full, not to mention that we're all bringing way too many costumes so there really won't be any room.

I can't seem to find the original thread where people first started talking about a Midnight tea party...help? D:
Anyway, about Acen not hosting this event. Trust me, I have heard this a million times because people have been trying to plan Lolita parties around their rules for years.
NO Acen will not host the event. YES you can host it independently from Acen. Whether or not you are allowed to bring food into the hotel is up to the hotel, not Acen. I am pretty sure that the Hyatt does NOT allow outside food to enter the building or there wouldn't be an issue with Acen hosting it, BUT the hotel across the street (the damn name keeps changing) does, because we have held a private party there before.
I have been trying to convince my boyfriend to let us host a party in our room, but I don't think he likes the idea of letting strangers in.
There really aren't any restaurants nearby to host it in unless you want to have a LOLITA MCDONALD'S night.
I also think it's a bad idea to ask everyone to bring a dish with them since most people plan on getting to the hotel on Friday morning and staying until the con ends...
EDIT: I just realized the guy who promptly responded with "No Acen won't host it" is the same guy who keeps doing it year after year. Didn't you read the post, man? It's a private party. WE GET IT ALREADY.

I don't think anyone really has the right to disclude cosplayers from a Lolita event at an ANIME con 8B ( <-- nerd face lol)
With so many Lolitas in one spot there is absolutely no way we can go on without having some kind of party!
I don't have a room yet but I have an idea for hosting a party. (However, as I am in the artist alley and we have CRAZY EARLY hours this year, this will totally not be a midnight tea party T_T )
Well, step one is I make my boyfriend get a room.
Step two: since only a certain amount of people will be able to fit in this room, you will have to RSVP and there will be a small maximum attendance.
Three: You MUST wear Lolita, Aristocrat, or boy-style to the event, or it is no fun.
Four: I would provide tea and probably some sandwiches, scones, tarts, or something. Something inexpensive.
Five: To cover the cost of tea and food, I would ask attendees to make a small donation based on attendance (between $1-5, less if more people come, more if less people come). This donation would be optional but greatly appreciated.
Six: Men who like to wear prince-style, kodona, ega, etc. PLEASE COME I guarantee at least one other Prince!! (my boyfriend)
Oops, I love lolita so much it makes me late for work. So, how does this tentative plan sound to you lovelies? *rushes out the door*

I am not going to set any strictly lolita rules, that would be rather obnoxious. I would say as long as you are dressed in a popular Japanese street fashion you should be fine. If you come wearing a kimono or school girl outfit, I would probably kick you out.

Will it most likely be on Friday? I was planning on only wearing my Lolita dress Friday, since I have to curl my hair to perfection, which will take hours (I'm arriving at ACen Friday morning... I'd be waking up at 5 am just to prep XD)

I talked with my roomies and its kool for us to have the party Friday night cuz they wanna go to soap bubble on saturday.
I wasn't able to get a suite but I do have a room on resrve at the Hayatt.
I don't know what type of room it is though.
Do you guys think that a room with twin beds would be bigger than the one with a king size bed? If so then I will request that type of room depending on how many peeps are coming.
If there are too many to fit into a room then I'm not sure what we could do.
Unless... if the weather is really nice then we could have it outside maybe??
It would be a gigantic lolita picnic at night!

Hmmm... How long do you have until you have to make a final decision on the rooms? I was planning on making a trip out to Rosemont this weekend or sometime soon to survey the hotel rooms (to make sure they can fit all the people we're planning on having in our room), and I could tell you which one is bigger after that, if you have that much time to make a decision.
As for the outside idea, if it's warm and we have a way of lighting it, that sounds like it could be fun, but I'd keep it as a last resort.

While I don't speak for my entire room, we are gone for most of the time. At night we most likely have one person bumming around the room for a while - usually to rest their feet and chill out.
If I was to talk about the rest of my roommates about this (there will be 5 of us this year) I'm sure they wouldn't be opposed.
There would have to be a few rules though even before I talked to them.
1) Please don't touch (specifically break) anything of ours. Don't rummage through our bags of clothes, things that we've bought, we would most likely put it in a closet or something.
2) Don't touch the mini-fridge/bar. It's expensive and we would prefer not to pay for it.
3) One of us would have to be in the room while all this goes on, just to make sure it's not getting trashed or destroyed - sorry in advance if they're in street clothes and kill the mood - it's who ever feels kind enough to stay back and make sure nobody dies.
Also a few questions.
Would you be able to give an exact time? How many people do you expect to show up to this? Would they come in shifts?
On Friday night we normally go out for Mexican food, on Saturday some of us attend the Soap Bubble or chill out.

YAY! ANOTHER VOLUNTEER! Thank you sooo much. This thing seems like it's finally coming together.
So, you're saying that Saturday would be a better day for you? That's great because now we can vote on what time would better suit us. And I understand about having someone there to moderate things. Just as long as they won't have a nightstick and won't just stand there staring at us like we're some criminals it's fine, lol.
Thank you so much for offering it up! I'll talk it over with Kaorte and let you know what we come up with.
Again, thanks! ^-^
