GameOn, if you set up GradiusV or some other shooter in the console room, I'll definately try to keep an eye out for a few games, even if there is no official tournament

Last I checked he isn't on my staff. We will have shooters setup, just no tournaments for them.

I'll be the first to thank zaps for getting things all set up. (YOU ROCK for getting the #Reload cabinet!) See you on Thursday.

As far as Tournaments go, yes.

It could be the best game in the world, but the tournament will still blow if it only has 5 people enter it. You don't need a tournament to introduce new people to a game.

I disagree--a tournament for the most underrated game in the world by the five best players of said game would by default turn heads. It would introduce the game to new people and dispell some of its underrating. When I see someone playing a challenging game well, I always stop to take a look--if for a few seconds with the average racer in an intense match, or more often in days past at real arcades.

Would you rather watch 20 people play a DBZ: Sagas tournament (if this is even possible--all I know of the game is three personal sources who love DBZ telling me it sucks, and Gamespot's review) or 5 experts playing Radiant Silvergun for high-score on 1 life?

Quality>Quantity, even in tournaments.

Are these arcade tourney times going to stick this year, or am I going to get shafted again by not having enough people for freestyle and being delayed at an unknown time.

Yeah, this happened last year. I really wanted to participate, but I couldn't due to lack of people....damnit

Question: will CvS2 and 3S be played on arcade or console? If on console, which console? Will joysticks be available for those pad-impaired people? I can do okay in 3S on a PS2 pad, but in CvS2 I can't do anything decent.

3S and I'm guessing CvS2 will be on the PS2. Both FOR SURE on console. And, if you're that impaired with a pad and I'm not playing you, you can use my PS2 T5 Hori if I'm around.

Hmm... I have to work on Saturday till 2:30. Any chance you guys could swap the GGXX reload tournament with another tournament so that it starts later? 4:00 would be perfect, you should put Tekken 5 at 3 and reload at 4.

I don't see it being very popular.  You make a good point with the pattern memorization comparison to Bemani, but Bemani games are attractive games to play (dancing and making music is pretty fun).

thats all dancing guitaring all the music games are memorization as with shooters there is more "skill" involved as in you dont necessarily know where ur opponent is. Though ddr, guitar freak are fun games.

In this day and age, people don't really play shooters, let alone watch other people play shooters in a tournament.

I kinda laughed when I saw this...Halo 2 sold millions of copies of the game in the first weekend...It also is one of the only video games that are professionally played. So idk where you got people dont play shooters. Id watch people make sic sticks and get killtaculars in a tournament. Ill want to play in it as well.

I wonder if the H2 tourney will be team or what not...ne one want to possibly team up?
My XBL tag is:xKAKASHIx my AIM is: Zonnie5

hit me up and maybe we can play some double team or so matches for the tourney.

Uh, they're talking about shmups (shoot-em ups). Ya know, like Gradius, Raiden, Ikaruga, the Darius series, 1942, Bosconian, Galaga, Space Invaders (to go more primative), etc. Ain't talking about FPS games.

And rhythm games don't necessarily require memorization when played competitively. Well, no more than a shmup or a FPS. When I play DDR, I'm very familiar with the song itself. What beats are where, any sort of tempo changes, etc. But I don't have the steps memorized. It's like having a map memorized but not knowing what's moving around in it (like your opponents).

Not every tournament is going to have a prize. The tournaments are free, so it's more for the fun here, than the prize.

The GG tourney is dangerously close to the Pillow's Autograph session...
I dont suppose people can sign up during the preliminaries (at a reasonable time before the next set of matches)?

I was one of the people who left. Think about it this way: Dance or SSBM? Wasn't hard for me to choose. The tournament, I heard, lasted a heck of a long time. I had a lot more fun dancing than I would have had winning a Smash tournament. It just needed a better time slate, like Halo and it needed rules announced before then so it wasn't a surprise when we got there.

We need a Mario Kart Double Dash Tourney!

I missed the one this year mostly cause of te horrible time slot it had and it was the first tourney, not many could get to it on time. It needs a better time slot and it could get more people. I really wanted to go to it this year but missed it. When I got there the tourney was already over!!! >_:P

I might play Maj. G in that tourney too... ;)

Also I would like to play him in Budokai 3 again.

I'm not accosting the ppl who didn't show, i'm upset with how alot of ppl didn't show, and they just decided to save time instead of latting ppl compete in the ditcher's places
