Think this is the first convention I've been too that has had pay to play machines, although then again most other cons I've been to have had less then 1000 people...

For the love of god who's bright idea was it to grab cabinets for the fighters? DDR, I can understand, but Guilty Gear? MvC2? Okay, before I go off on how stupid whoever decided this is - I'll inform you of why you're so stupid, so perhaps you can rectify your mistake. I'm only going to type this once, genius, so listen up.
Cabinet vs Console for fighters
1) With a cabinet one gets the pleasure of PAYING PER PLAY. (Oh that's a winner.)
1b) With a console it's omg FREE.
2) With a cabinet one is forced to use the sub-par stick that's often associated with any fighting game, because people mash the buttons - they're ****.
2b) With a console one gets to bring his/her own controller (OR STICK). So the player gets a choice! Amazing.
3) With a cabinet there's a RENTAL FEE.
3b) Consoles can be supplied by con-goers.
4) Cabinets offer the exact same gameplay a VS mode console set-up offers.
5) When cabinets malfunction, one has to call the gameroom mod to come say "Oh no, we can't open that up, because it's not legally ours and I can't be held accountable, therefore you have to use the broken butt stick for the rest of the time."
5b) If your controller breaks, you can switch it out for another one in under 5 seconds.
Am I the only one here that's been blessed with the wonderful gift of LOGIC? Does no one else realize how moronic this is?
Alright, I know I've probably offended a couple of people by this point, and I admit I could've worded this a little better so as not to throw everyone on the defensive. But I didn't, so live with it. If you've got a problem with what I've said give me ONE good reason. ONE legitimate reason why cabs should be used instead of consoles. Just one.
Obviously I'm missing something here - help me understand.

T5 has the card thing, which records wins/losses, gives a unique name to each character you have named.
MvC2 arcade is untouchable. The PS2 version/xb version BLOWS. The DC version is OK but not nearly as good at MvC2 arcade. Plus, not everybody has their own sticks, and no good players use a pad for MvC2 seriously, its all about stick. Not everyone wants to lug their giant MAS or X-arcade to Acen either (assuming they don't use a Hori).
With Puzzle fighter, it's pretty rare so someone having it is pretty low, and there's also no controllers like the one thats actually on the machine, with the one large button with two halves and a joystick.
There's been a "XX vs XX#Reload" argument for a long time, and this ensures Reload will be used for the tournament. Also, the only console reload for American systems is on XB, and nobody wants to pay on an Xbox pad or has like, a converter for everyone to use.
Also, there's GONNA be someone there to fix the sticks and stuff, they're not just gonna be all "oh well, its broken, tough ****". There's a bunch of people who are plenty qualified, and i wouldn't be surprised if the owner of Nickel City sends out people from his arcade there for maintenance, or even goes himself.
Keep in mind that there's gonna be 10,000 people there, so lines are gonna be freaking INSANE, having fighters for arcade AND console helps minimize the line, and generally stronger players go to the arcade anyways, so if you want to face better opponents, go to the arcade room as opposed to the console room, simple as that.
And i doubt there's a rental fee. They probably just split the profits, everyone's happy.
And you're looking at the worst possible thing from the entire perspective. If you don't like the arcade room then OMG DONT GO THERE.

Let's consider this: Last year there was a GIANT fit thrown about people having to pay to enter the SID concert. The reason for the complaint the staff had was that when a con-goer pays registration costs they pay for everything to be involved in the con. Even food in the kareoke room is free if you have a badge.
But wait! The game room charges us money to play games! Shouldn't the staff, the people who had the problem with JPophouse charging us money to see the band involved with the con, have the same problem with charging us money to play video games that are included with the con?
XCTU - I'm not real sure what kind of serious gamers you're refering to, but they certainly used consoles at Evo. I've traveled all over and entered tournaments and MvC2 is run on the DC. I don't know why you even brought 3S up, since it's not on the list of cabs and I don't know why you brought up T5 either, since you made no statements about the actual change in gameplay.
As for Guilty Gear - I've got converters for everyone to use! But wait, I've got the Korean version for the PS2 that I'd be more than ready and willing to bring. I bet you any money that ElvenShadow, and any other serious GGer, would be willing to do the same.
I wish I could just not enter the arcade room, but guess what! I like to enter tournaments at cons. I like the badge I pay for to be useful to me. I don't shell out fourty five bucks to go play some people just to pay more money to do it.
My blologna has a second name. It's R-U-S-H DOWN.
I love to do it constantly and if you ask me why, let's see...
'Cause DaviKaze has a way with O-K-I-Z-E-M-E

T5 - A person's win/loss record on the card system for T5 doesn't affect gamepley.
MvC2 is untouchable for Cab? Thanks for your opinion, although I believe my more frugle opinion is shared by a few more people. It runs just fine on PS2, and I hope by "OK for the DC" you meant flawless. Because that's what I've always seen and heard.
Puzzle Fighter - Oh that's a tricky one. Despite the name, it isn't really a fighter. Sorry hehe.
XX vs Reload argument - There isn't an argument, Reload is the tourney game. Also, I can name at least five people attending aCen willing to bring their modded PS2 with Korean #R, in case the xbox pad isn't up to snuff for you. Furthermore, NO ONE will bring a converter for everyone to use? I've got four.
Maintenance - Sadly, that wasn't the case last year.
10k people / Lines - You understand there will be one cabinet for each fighter? I'm correct in assuming you understand this? Two consoles - TWO - would cut that line in half. I'm not sure what you're getting at here, but I'm pretty sure you were backing me up on this point. Thank you.
Rental fee - Let's pretend there won't be a rental fee, then why exactly are we paying to play these games? Last I checked conventions were non-profit outside of the Dealers' room. Are the players going to see this "profit?" Sorry, something seems shady here. I'll pretend you didn't say that.
Don't like it? Don't play. - Whoa, lower the gun, communist. This is all simply my opinion. If I see a kid bashing his face into a wall I'm inclined to make a comment on it regarding his intelligence. This is much the same case.
Still looking for a legitimate excuse why cabs should be used... anyone?
