On the same track? How does that happen? Coulda swore there was a track for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic...isn't there?

Yes usually, but they can switch tracks and use the same one if the other is being repaired or something. There are certain points between stations where the tracks can switch.

What she said -points up- I know around the stops closer to O'hare they use the single track at night so it takes forever to wait for the next train or two to pass before our own can switch tracks and pass by the night workers looking at a track that the train normal uses.

there was a really bad crash recently on the blue line train so that could be what caused single tracking.

I just saw the new, they said the train moved on its own and their alert systems didn't go off. This is something I would have expect would happen in a far away foreign country but at least now CTA will check everything after what happen.

Interesting. Hopefully they get it straightened out. Luckily no one died because of this.
