I try to just plan out future events, find another con like Anime Midwest to attend, and play some video games/watch anime.

Meeting up at said events with friends from ACen helps ease the wounds as well. :)

Strangely enough, I don't have much of any con withdrawal this year because right after, I'm so dang busy.

I'll be heading to A-Kon at the end of the month. I'll never forget ACen, though, as it was my first major convention.

I like to reflect the experiences I had at ACen, and I try to think how I can go bigger, next year.

I'm in con mode for a few days, catching up on sleep and just keep dreaming about ACen for about a week. Then its back to working on the weekends. I still have to edit my videos of ACen to put up on YouTube but I usually wait until the summer to edit those so I have something to do during the summer.

I'm in the same boat. So much going on, I haven't had a ton of time to recollect the con. I haven't even caught up on sleep yet! Blame it on work xD.

But to help with con withdrawal, I usually plan new cosplays/start building right away! And going to smaller cons is fun, I'm going to Anime Midwest in July so I'm focusing on that. It probably helps knowing I'm going to another con, so I'll probably be more sad after Anime Midwest, since that ends con season for me.

I really don’t have con withdrawal since I see ACen as the unofficial beginning of summer. Besides Anime Midwest and Chicago Comic-Con, there are plenty of festivals in the Chicagoland area. Most are intended for people 21+ but there are a few family friendly ones in there. Some that I have attended and have a great time include:

Mayfest Chicago, May 30-June 2, Lincoln Square
Ribfest Chicago: June 7-9, North Center
Andersonville Midsommarfest: June 7-9, Andersonville
Summer on Southport, June 29 & 30, Southport at Waveland
Windy City RibFest: July 5-7, Uptown
Taste of Lakeview, July 6 & 7, Lincoln at Belmont
Roscoe Village Burger Fest, July 13 & 14, Belmont and Damen
Chinatown Summer Fair: July 21, Chinatown
Fiesta del Sol: July 25-28, Pilsen on Cermak between Morgan and Ashland
Taste of Lincoln Avenue: July 27 & 28, Lincoln Park
Ginza Festival, August 9-11, Old Town
Retro on Roscoe, August 10 & 11, Roscoe Village
Chicago Korean Festival, August 10 & 11, North Park
Taste of Greece, August 24 & 25, Greektown
North Side Irish Fest, September 13-15, Lincoln Ave. at Irving Park

Eh, I'm not feeling it really - I've just been too busy. But if I ever do start feeling those sad withdrawal symptoms, I just have to remind myself that Anime Midwest is coming up soon and I get over it :).

I'm feeling it. The weekend went up super fast and I spent soooo much time and effort on my Cosplay. ;_; But now I have to get back into the real world - projects at work, throwing my sister's baby shower, finalizing plans for Florida trip in August.. so I guess it's not so bad. :)

Not really having con withdrawl, more like Kalafina withdrawl. :P I so want to relive last Friday night. It was a stunning performance. Keiko: "The next song is our last song!" <audience gets sad> Keiko: "Ohhhh.. oh noooo." xD

I've managed to center my ACen experience around mahjong last year and now this year. Looking forward to next year (and other activity between now and then), I actually don't have much as far as con withdrawl. :3

I have my weekly meetup groups to keep me busy after work most days. And though the club couldn't find space for a few weeks, Anime Shin-Gen will be gathering in Skokie Library on May 25 and June 15, starting as early as 12:30 PM and wrapping up at 5:30.

I might be attending Brickworld on June 16, and I will probably attend Anime Midwest for at least one day. They're not too crowded or expensive.

Well said. A lot of the events you mentioned are inexpensive neighborhood events that have small/nonexistent entrance fees, and the crowds aren't too overwhelming.

No problem. I modified my original post to also include this event and Greek Fest in later August. I probably won't do Ginza since it's the same weekend as the Korean Festival and I love going to it!

For the first time ever, since 2007 I did not have a con withdrawal!
I believe that I didnt have it because I had so much fun and I got really tired. Also I'm just "ready" for next year.
But on usual years, I never have a way to get rid of the withdrawal. Too much money used not only because Chicago is a 4-5 hour drive from where I am now. There aren't so many cons in my area (well not anymore) and they are so spaced out during the year so I'm sort of just stuck with it.
I won't be going to ACen 2015 sadly ;;;; (I am going to Anime Expo) but I'll be back for 2016!

Why? Can people who like anime enough to go to cons not also have other interests? Any excuse to gtfo the house and have fun sounds good to me. I'm kinda jealous that he's a local and can go to all that stuff.

I have several stages:

1) Spend A LOT of time on the ACen forums. I scour for pictures and look at my own and just kind of relive the event. I do this for about a week.
2) Come the second week I start to SLOWLY go through my swag haul. I read my new manga, watch my new series, etc. I also start watching new anime series elsewhere.
3) This usually can take me about a month or so after ACen. At this point, I start thinking about what I will do next. I try to get an idea of what my cosplays will be for the next event and trying to get an idea of what the price will be. I also attempt to NOT procrastinate and do some early shopping....I always fail at this part since I am also trying to SAVE money since I spent so much leading up to ACen.

My work slows waaay down for the summer, so usually coming back from ACen is excruciatingly boring as I sit around and reminisce about how much fun I had for a weekend, and how far away GeekKon is (usually the first one I hit after ACen).

But.. summer is full of lots of fun stuff.. grilling out, trips to the lake for boating and lounging, motorcycle riding.. and my favorite of all; really cool looking skies full of puffy clouds just like they have in anime!!

I can't get enough of that pretty stuff.. heck, I wish I could sit around all summer long and just admire pretty things. When I got off of work today there were lots of storms in the area and tons of big puffy storm clouds on the horizon.. It was even sort of windy, so when I hit the stoplights at my exit from the freeway the swaying grass in the field that's right next to the road was *perfect*! And yesterday everything that so sunny with puffy scattered clouds and cottonwood fluff floating around everywhere! It was so great. Oh man.. and the sunsets. I love summer.
Then there's the morning drive to work... the only thing that kept me going last summer was a little lake off to one side of the freeway that had a whole flock of white seabirds (the kinds with the black wingtips, I think) that hung out there. All summer long.. I had just watched BlueDrop around May last year, so those made me think "wow.. so cool, just like the anime." Haha, lame I know, but it made me happy. Then they left for winter, and they're still not back :( Every day I hope. Today that lake was perfectly glassy, despite the breeze. Gorgeous. Everything's so green right now, too.
Heck, I watched AnoHana this winter, and the opening sounded SO summery that I waited all these months, waiting for perfect weather, and now that it's here I crank Aoi Shiori with the windows open like.. daily.

So yea, to beat con withdrawal that's how I cope I guess!
Whether a tree lives to see the end of centuries
Or a random hand picks in instantly
Life is art, a miracle for all to believe
I must tell you that you lived beautifully

Going to more cons is usually the best cure - and there's something cool about smaller cons: you usually get more of a chance to interact with *NEW* people, as there's a better chance of seeing the same person more than once than at a huge con. XD

Aaw man con withdrawal really hit me hard. I had not attended ACen since 2011, and this was my first time attending a con for the full weekend plus staying at a hotel. I miss ACen very much, but I am looking forward to Anime Midwest.
