My boyfriend and I will be attending ACen this year, and we are not 100% sure what are going to cosplay.
Usually if we don't have time to find something or don't know what to do we default to our Renaissance Festival costumes.
So my question is since these are not anime/game related would people find this strange/funny?

Nope! There are always a variety of non-anime/game costumes around, including a lot of Ren. Fair costumes.

While there are a lot of people who won't give two flying...ducks about what kind of costume you choose to wear, and would probably even still highly request pictures, I do feel that it would be wrong NOT to let you know that there are SOME ACen attendees who might have personal issues with non anime related cosplay. What will they do? Some will make mental notes but say nothing aloud, some may make funny faces at you, and some - the worst really in my opinion - will address you and point out that you are not wearing an anime themed costume. But these people are few and most who DO have a problem with it, keep said problem to themselves and allow the non-anime dressed attendees to proceed in their happiness.

So, yes, there will be people who find it odd/bothersome/strange/funny that you are not in anime cosplay.
Will you be bothered by these people? Most likely not.
Should you wear ren-faire attire? GO FOR IT!

For more info on the subject, check out this thread: "Is Non-Japanese cosplay appropriate for ACen or other anime coms?"

On a personal note - I love Ren Fair attire and hope I run into you to admire your cosplays.

If you feel too out of place, you're also more than welcome to come to the Assassin's Creed meet and say you're townsfolk NPC characters!

You could wear a Halloween costume if you wanted to. Doesn't matter any. Just come and have fun.

Honestly, no matter hat type of convention, there's always a multi-genre mix of cosplayers so really, it's not a problem at all :) People go in rave attire, random cat girls/boys, fursuits, anime characters, video game characters, movies, fantasy/sci-fi, etc.
Visit and like my cosplay page :)
