Hey, I was browsing the forum and noticed that there wasn't a Supernatural cosplay gathering thread.

Is anyone else interested in doing an SPN cosplay photoshoot on Saturday sometime? There was one last year and it was a ton of fun!

I'd be cosplaying Cas, if anyone wants to! (I'd prefer not to be the one who runs the photoshoot, since I'm crap at it, but I just think it'd be a lot of fun...)

You might be able to throw together a quick cosplay by going to Goodwill.

I'm cool with the loading docks Saturday afternoon. From what I understand you will respond to the cosplay gathering post. I am pretty sure the one that started that post is in charge.

Awesome. I wonder if I should put in a bid for that spot now and any other SPN cosplayers can simply attempt to match their schedule, or if I should wait... I'll check the list and if too many groups have already begun requesting spot assignments, I'll ask for ours. I don't want to miss out. >_<

I have my Cas cosplay all set, but it looks like we already have a couple of him in regular and femme. I'll bring mine anyways (I worked so hard on perfecting the 5 o' clock shadow), but if we need a Dean I'd be A-OK being him. Closet cosplay FTW! Bustin' out the leather jacket! Also, I'll have my angel blade with me for anyone to use for pictures.

Question: How are we handling requests for fanservice? That always ends up being the biggest issue in photoshoots and gatherings.

We may very well need a Dean, so I say be prepared to bring him! (also, might I ask about your technique for the stubble? I haven't found anything that looks particularly great - i've been using cheap mascara.)

As for fanservice... Imho, no one should do anything they're not comfortable with. I'm a Destiel shipper and would love some Dean/Cas, but i'm also asexual and would be unwilling to kiss anyone. I'll hug and cuddle, though ~

(I'd also be uncomfortable doing a megstiel or calthazar shoot, though obviously anyone who is comfortable is more than welcome to.)

For the stubble problem: I suggest using a dark cream eyeshadow for Cas, and a stipple sponge (you can find these at Halloween stores, or places like Party City). Dab the sponge into the cream shadow, pat out the excess on your hand, and then tap it on your jaw--do NOT brush it on. Simple as that, and you get really realistic stubble. c:

As for the fan service, I think if two people are both consenting to do something more than a hug or longing glance or whatnot, it should be fine.

I second Yonda's 5 o' clock technique. I do something similar, but I also add white powder (very, very little of it) over the top in order for it to 1) not be so dark and 2) Make it look more realistic since most people's hair is not one tone. Haha, now looks like I get to play with blond and brown make up for it now! I can bring what I use so you can have it if you'd like. I have waaaaay too much cosplay makeup stuff

For real??? That's so cool! I love Destiel and I too am asexual! Yay, that's gonna make fanservice so much easier! I agree with you and Yonda, I don't mind fanservice so long as we all consent and talk about what we are or aren't comfortable with.

I'm planning on going to multiple conventions with this cosplay, so I should probably just pick up this stuff on my own, but thank you! Any and all tips anyone has for me would be GREAT, though, from what to buy to where to buy from and what to look for. I know nothing about makeup, since I don't wear any except for cosplay. (I don't even use chapstick unless in desperate need). If I can get the stipple brush and the creme eyeshadow at Party City or similar, I should be ok! (What kind of white powder would work best for the top?)

Okie dokie! I recommend Party City for most of it since they have a huge range of good stuff and it's very inexpensive. Ask a clerk about what works for five o clock shadows and they'll be able to show you the best stuff. For the powder, it should be a light beige-ish to white color so it's more skin oriented. Also make sure any makeup is easily removed via water or makeup cloths (these can be purchased as well) and if you have sensitive skin, let them know so they can get natural products. Make sure you wash your face every time you put on new makeup to avoid breakouts and if you go to any Walgreens or convenience store that sells foundation you can find a good base either powder or liquid that will make makeup easy to apply or remove. It also looks great for pictures.

I do a lot of acting at my college, so most things don't bother me with pictures or film, since it has no bearing on my personal life. My boundaries start at making anyone else uncomfortable. You all can decide what does or does not happen for fanservice. A rule most shoots have is if a request for a pairing gets called and is turned down, there will be no pestering or harassing in any way. If someone disregards this rule they will be verbally reprimanded without being berated and if it happens again, that person is asked to leave. Anyone after that is immediately asked to leave since we will have made an announcement of that rule beforehand. The initial lenience is because it often takes one rule-breaker for the necessity of the rule to set in, and after that everyone is almost always respectful.

The two biggest pairings in the fandom are Destiel (which we established will be in the shoot) and Wincest (Sam and Dean). I can guarantee that people will call for Wincest, so if anyone affected does not want to participate, since that can be a squicky spot for people, let the group know. The next most popular slash pairings are Sabriel (Sam and Gabriel) and Sastiel (Sam and Cas). After those are the canon relationships (ie Dean/Lisa, Sam/Jess, Sam/Ruby, Dean/Anna, etc.) there are many more, but I don't know everyone we have coming so we can each chime in with good pairing for us and/or ones we have no interest in participating in. Whew, long post

Good to know! If possible, I might forego foundation, since I have no use for it other than cosplay. >_< And I unfortunately don't get to cosplay often enough to make it worth purchasing.

The rules are good to know as well. I haven't run a photoshoot before, so I'll probably need help. Thank you all in advance!

Hey, maybe we'll get lucky and there won't be anyone coming in behind us. My Saturday schedule will be pretty open, so I'd be cool sticking around for as long as we can make the photoshoot last, though obviously we'll need to vacate the loading dock if the group scheduled after us shows up.

Foundation isn't necessary, it just makes pictures look nice with everything as one tone. That won't be much of a problem for our group since I'm pretty sure the less perfect we look the better xD It is one of the grittiest shows for makeup anyways, haha! I know what you mean, though. I didn't start wearing makeup till this year, and I only do foundation and eyeliner since I perform too often not to wear something, but I don't like makeup. It's cumbersome and expensive if you go the nine yards. Not my style. If you ever do need it for cosplay stuff, I'd recommend foundation minis, which usually cost a dollar or two and are in small jars or tubes for those who only want it every so often.

Mostly the rules are for fanservice purposes. The rest of them basically consist of "Don't break other people's stuff, no excessive hugging/glomping unless invited (for cosplay consideration), no verbal or physical abuse of any kind, and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES may anyone exclude people from a group picture during the regular photoshoot time simply because they 'don't fit what you want'. If people want to stick around or go elsewhere for mini-shoots for either professional or artistic reasons, etc that is fine, even encouraged. Pictures are fun! But during our time slot, no one is made to feel like they are unwelcome or don't belong. We had that problem one year at a Kuroshitsuji shoot, and two people ran off crying because of it. Luckily the person in charge made the responsible parties leave, and the others felt better about coming back. I hope I never have to see that again.

Haha, one-sided pictures are so funny! I saw a great one on DeviantArt where there's a Cas in the middle and the rest of the cast arguing over him and his face was such a perfect impression of Misha it was adorable! The top of the picture says, "My Grace brings all the Hunters to the Graveyard, and I'm like 'Yeah, I'm a better God than you'." xD I laughed so hard!

If someone comes after us, we can always pick up and move the shoot elsewhere for a mini-shoot so long as we aren't in anyone's way.

I would highly recommend the Tough as Taupe color from Maybelline's Color Tattoo cream eyeshadow for stubble. I actually am pretty good with doing character makeup and I could put up a tutorial for you guys if you want, to show what to do? c: This could also show you the Tough as Taupe color.
