If your panel was denied you are welcome to re-apply or contact us for exact reasoning. The application is still open! Some panels were denied pending a few changes. We will be emailing those panels soon with our suggested changes. If only 1 of your panels were approved and you still have panels pending approval DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR BADGE! If you’re looking for the full 100% discount then please wait for your 2nd panel to be approved. You can look at the status of your panel applications in your Registration account profile page.

That's how a lot of my friends who have submitted panels feel. The current tier of badges ends on January 1st and they and myself submitted our panels the day submissions opened and we still don't know. I'm starting to wonder what the hold up is. It was said by the staff that they were almost done with the first batch that was submitted and all they had to do was go through "duplicate" submissions. This was at the beginning of the month. I'm trying not to complain about this too much but there must be more approved/denied by now right?

Agreed. I don't want to complain much, because I for sure know how it is to have tons of stuff going on with life and all and not being able to get everything done--but at least perhaps as panels are approved/denied at least release them? I don't want the tier to end and not find out about my panels and have to pay full price because they were both denied. And I noticed if you submitted a panel, the system doesn't let you buy a badge anyway--so someone else would have to buy it for you. I want to find out if they are approved or not so I can maybe start working on them as soon as I can. There's no point working on a panel if it's denied haha. XD

I agreed with you both,I didn't know you couldn't buy a badge if you had a panel pending?I was going to buy mine next week because with life and work I don't have enough time on the computer anymore to constantly check the forums and my emails.If I found out then I could estimate how much I need to spend for materials and what not.

If you go on your personal account that you submitted your panel through, and go to buy a badge, it says "oh you have panels pending you cant buy your badge wait for approval or denial" or something around those lines. Because I tried to add the tier 1 right before it ended to my cart so I could secure the price in case my panels are denied, and I could not, I got the notice I just said. Personally the free badge is an awesome perk, but I really wanna know if I'm also approved mostly because I want to know if i need to work on them or not cause I have tons of stuff going on, like all of us so I can work around work so I can organize my stuff.

I have the exact same feeling. I know the badge may not seem like much but that's money I can spend at the con. Also, doing a panel takes a lot of work and like you said. We gotta work that into our already busy schedules. I can only hope we get our approvals or denials soon. This wait is killing me

Guys, you don't have to worry about the pricing tiers. It's right in the panelist policy. #2 under the Panelist Badges section:

Quote

In the event that a panel request is denied, the registration pricing tier that was in effect at the time the COMPLETED panel request was received will be applied. If the application was submitted during Tier 2, and denied in Tier 3, the applicant will receive Tier 2 pricing.

So if you applied during the first tier of pricing, even if the panel is denied, you get to pay that price.

But more importantly, keep in mind that we just had Thanksgiving roll through over the weekend - or, in the case of some folks, over the last week. We have day jobs, families, and lives. Some people can (and will) keep working on con stuff through the holidays, but not all. This is a very busy and crazy time of month - two months, even, counting December. Try to be considerate and patient, yes?

I have no problem with waiting an being patient. But tell me what you think of this.

Approvals are currently "done". When we went to update the panels in the system it's email function broke so it currently can't inform panelists if they're approved or denied via email. (perfect timing) So once that is fixed we'll be sending out denials and approvals for the current batch of panels. We currently have 112 panel applications. If you haven't applied yet don't worry we have space! We had over 250 panels last year. But we may have less this year since we are looking at putting a 15 minute break between panels.

This was posted almost 2 months ago. Before all the crazy holidayness started. Also it was further updated that they were basically done and all they had left were duplicates. I guess I'm just a little confused as to how the panel approval process works and where the hang up is? There's being patient and then there is waiting needlessly. Like it has been said earlier in this thread. Working on a panel takes time and effort to do it right. I don't want to find out come March that my panel was approved and have to work double time to get it ready. You may say "You're over exaggerating. it won't take that long" Last year, I applied to do my panel in October. I didn't find out TILL MARCH it was approved. A whole month before con. Is that fair? I don't think we are asking too much to find out if the first batch of panels are completed like they said they basically were a whole month ago. I know people have work to do and holidays are coming up but there have to be more panels approved/denied at this point then what is there.

On this front...I usually make about 50% of my stuff and then come to a halt until I know it's been approved, unless I know I'll also be running the panel at another convention. I do understand wanting to know if you're getting 50% off or a free badge, etc., but on that one...I tend to make my budgets for everything assuming I'll be spending the highest amount of money possible, and then if I end up spending less...yay extra money!

I definitely understand being prepared. I'm ready come any eventuality but I know quite a few people that don't have that luxury. I know this is all volunteer based but so are panels. it may not seem like a big commitment but it is. I don't want to work on something and find out it was pointless

I totally understand budgeting, preparing and stuff, but I will tell you a lot of us don't have time like that. For example, I know many people work full time, and of you work in retail, you're constantly at work. Full time students? Depending on your major/course work, or like Magi said, have the luxury of super budgeting for ACen. Like personally, I pay for school on my own and any penny I know I can save, I grab like madness. I love doing panels and getting 50% off on a Badge is a great perk. I'm willing to do extra work to get things and I'm sure everyone else who is doing a panel is too. We're not pointing fingers or blaming anyone. Us panelists just at least would be happy with a list or spread sheet thing that we can see if we're approved or denied since two months ago it was said that all approvals and denials are basically done--but aren't sent out. So why not just post a full list? Why only select panels? We're not mad, just a little anxious and sorta frustrated because we would like to know what is going on.

I know I made submissions for my two panels and haven't heard back yet and don't see them on the list, and they were submitted within days of the submission process being opened.

I work full time and need to know about the status of these so I know where best to input my energy into one if not both of them if they are both accepted.

I understand things are busy, especially around the holidays for everyone but knowing would help me a lot.

I have my assistants and myself working on about 106 panels atm (that haven't been posted yet). I should be able to post most if not all of them by Friday/Saturday.

SOME PANELS are going to be asked to alter their outlines. We found some topics were great but contained content we would rather not have at Anime Central. So please watch your emails carefully for an additional email besides your approval or denial email. Some will be denied with suggested changes to become approved, some with be conditional approval as long as parts are removed from the panel. If you don't see emails in your inbox check your spam folder and search your email for any @ACen.org address in the search option. Most emails can be set to send certain addresses (ACen.org) to go into a specific folder, we suggest doing this so you don't miss any information.


Homestuck panels, we've hit about 20+ applications. About 2 will be accepted, possibly 3. Anyone else with homestuck panels should hold off on applying this year, we will not be considering any more panels on that topic.

Awesome--sounds good--but I have a question. So, what if we get denied and told to change the panel to become approved, or we get accepted, but we are told to take some stuff out--how do we contact you to say that we did and show you we did so we can get approved/agree on approval by taking out things? Do we apply again or email you our outlines directly? I mean I sure don't want to wait super long by applying again since I applied the day the application launched so I can find out about my panel ASAP. Thanks for your hard work all of us really appreciate it.

We will be getting email confirmations from those of you who we are requiring changes with. Once we re-read the outline or confirm you understand the policies changes we need made, we would then re-consider the Panel. In some cases we may ask you to re-submit the Panel entirely and watch for it to come into the system and review then as well. The email we send out to you directly will have directions on what to do from here and what issues we need resolved and what to do once you have resolved them. =)
