I already did about 6 months ago. It's basically the same as 7 for me but generally faster.

The layout is pretty slick with all the windows and the navigation is also pretty awesome. I've played with mobile and PC versions and I like it so far. Cool part is that the upgrade doesn't cost a whole new OS!

It looks terrible. I need some user reviews. Also, doesn't it force you to have Games for Windows Live?

It does not. Certain games require GFWL but that's the same as it is now. And for all the whining GFWL isn't even really that bad anyway.

I may eventually upgrade my TV PC or monitoring PC to Win8 but I'll be holding off for awhile for my main gaming PC.

Considering I've had no trouble with upgrading I would have to answer yes in this context.

I can get an upgrade sub $40 so I may pick up one and try it on one of my PCs. They say the performance is a bit better and that you can be in desktop most of the time.

I've heard that some gaming developers are starting to look for Linux developers (or developers that know a lot about OpenGL) to begin porting their games to the Linux platform in response to Windows 8. Unfortunately, I cannot locate a source.

I'll stick with Windows 7 and Ubuntu for now, although I am considering a switch of Linux OS's to something else besides Ubuntu.

Gabe Newell isn't liking Windows 8 so far.
It's better to wait several months after launch when all the updates/service packs iron out the kinks.
In the meantime, there really isn't any real reason to pay for an OS upgrade.

What? IS Windows 8 free?
I'm saying is: if Windows 7 is perfectly fine, why go out and buy Windows 8?

I heard the same thing with every version of windows that comes out. For me, as a technically savy individual, I like moving forward with tech...hardware/software. I'm not really one to sit on my hands as tech moves ahead. If I had only one OS running in the house, I probably wouldn't because I could less afford to have to deal with any potential issues the new OS offers. Then again, I have 4 active machines at my disposal that could be upgraded, one with vista. For me, I like being a bit ahead of the curve as opposed to possibly falling behind it.

If i didn't just get a new mobile, and wasn't happy with my fire i might upgrade. The cross platform uniformity and the connectivity of the devices looks very promising.

if you have windows 7, does this update kick in automatically?

i have 7, but my comp just went through a pretty big auto-update, so i'm wondering if it's like firefox, which just
forces you to upgrade unless you work really hard to disable it.

If you are talking as in a download online, no. You pretty much have to obtain the upgrade media and perform it yourself.

Running 64-bit Vista and Ubuntu. No hurry to go off to the next OS. I usually wait a year so that all the bugs are properly sorted out before jumping in and deciding for myself whether to get it or not. For many of the features that they offer, I already have in the form of other apps/services (Android/Google mainly).
To me, I think one should decide to upgrade based on how they would use the OS and what peripherals (cellphone, tablets, gaming consoles, etc) you have before you purchase. I don't have an Xbox (I've got a PS3 & Wii), I have an iPad, and an Android phone. Works good enough for me. If I had an Xbox360, a Windows phone and was more of a desktop user, I would probably be more inclined to jump into Windows 8.
