This will be my first year staying at the Hyatt. Some people hate it because people have parties all night and you also have to deal with the drunk people. While other say that it was fine and they enjoyed their stayed there. I don't expect it to be as quiet as the Aloft(the place i've been staying at for the past 3 years) but i don't expect it to be too loud either. Any stories or experiences that you can share? Thanks

I don't know how helpful this is, since the last time I stayed there was 2009, but I didn't have issues with noise/drunks/partying neighbors. I can't remember what floor we were on, (I wanna say 5?) but I know that our room wasn't near a stairwell, which might have made a difference. It wasn't dead-silent, but the noise level wasn't anything abnormal - just the usual sounds of people passing by in the hallways. Everyone in our room was able to go to sleep by 1 A.M. with no problems.

This is the first year I'm not last-minute-ing my hotel arrangements (so, the first year I really have a choice), and honestly, if it weren't for the Embassy's set-up being better for the group I'm going with this year, I'd have booked at the Hyatt again without a second thought.

I've stayed at the Hyatt since 2004 save for last year when due to a screw up I ended up having to book elsewhere. The atrium rooms (in the center area) can get a bit of noise, the tower rooms and Executive wing you kinda take your chances depending on the neighbors, but it's never been so noisy to be really bad or super annoying (of course it helps that I'm usually so tired I don't even notice...). You do encounter some "over served" attendees here and there in the hallways, elevators, and walkway/skybridge. I've reserved at the Hyatt again this year mainly to be close to the action (I'm lazy...).

Also: last year I stayed at the Hilton, and it was very quiet the whole time. The walk to the DESCC and Hyatt could take about 15 minutes due in part to the screwy way you have to access the skybridge at the Hilton (small elevator) and the foot traffic can often slow you down.

My personal observations.

I've been staying at the Hyatt for the last 9 years and never had any problems. Given sometimes I'm the slightly loud attendee late at night but I've never had a problem of excessive noise and never had a noise complaint on me. It's still the most convenient hotel for programming and most things so I'll always stay there. So I wouldn't be too concerned about the noise.

I've stayed at the Hyatt 3 times going on four this year. If you are on the upper floors in the atrium rooms you shouldn't have too much noise. However, we always get a king bedroom in the towers and the noise wakes me up constantly because I'm a light sleeper. There are screams, shouts, opening and closing the stairwell door makes a loud slamming noise since the door is so heavy, constant in and out from partying neighbors is a bother too, and the knocking when more people are in a room than there are room key cards. I've been on the lobby level and the one up from that the past two years and those are the worst floors to be in for the towers. I stay there for the convenience though since I was in the Artist's Alley, and had merchandise to haul there and back every day.

So yeah it's noisy and at times obnoxious. If you can fall asleep and stay asleep through noises then you should be fine. If you're a light sleeper, wear earplugs to bed.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I was going to bed at 11PM each night since I had to be up so early. The noise stops around 3AM, so if you're up late all night you shouldn't have a problem with noise.

Depends.

The previous years I didn't have an issue with the Hyatt; if you are near the stairwell beware though. Ran into some messy areas that one year.

2011 when I crashed in a friend's room for some hours to charge my PSP someone was loud next door in the Hyatt (not sure what room) and was throwing bottles from the balcony on Thursday but besides that it was nice/quiet. I have no idea who it was or what floor they were on.

It REALLY depends on what floor and what part of the hotel you are on. Bring ear plugs just in case. You will see....interesting things though that's for sure. I always have a good laugh at the Hyatt.

ALSO NEVER TAKE THE ELEVATOR. Always take the stairs because the elevator will be crowded no matter what floor you are on.

Thanks for all the help. I will be sure to prepare myself for the worst even though I may not have to deal with it. :highfive: i'm looking forward to ACen and being in Artist Alley for the first time. (which is my i booked the hyatt in the first place)

Also does the hyatt have fridges that you can safely open up and store stuff in? I hate it when they give the no touch or be charged fridges.

They are the "no touch or be charged fridges". I think you can request to rent a mini fridge though. Also, no microwaves either, but again you can probably rent them for a nominal fee. You might have to call ahead and request them since they are first-come first-serve.

EDIT: Also, good luck getting into the AA this year! I hope to get in too, so maybe I'll see ya there!

Actually I don't think you can. I vaguely remember it being discussed last year here that you can't bring your own microwave or fridge. I might be wrong, so hopefully someone who remembers can chime in. I tried looking on their website, but found nothing about that. You should call ahead and make sure it's okay though. I swear there was something like in the terms and conditions that you can't bring your own appliances... hmmm.

We usually just do a styro cooler each year. If you are next to us, it'll be quiet.

I was thinking of the Hyatt to stay this year since my friends want to come and experience three days of little sleep. But I was just curious on how rowdy people can get? They want to play music from the room and meet new people but I do not want to be rude to others. Any suggestions?

It really varies from section to section. Sometimes you'll have a floor or block of rooms that's quite noisy, sometimes you'll be in an area that it dead quiet. So it can be quite rowdy but you never know what area you'll be in.

I've had mixed stays. One of my first years staying, we had people hollering over the balconies all night, year after - silent. And then ONE YEAR, my sister and I had an early train to catch and we had to listen to a party right next door saturday night >.<;;

But yeah, it really depends on your neighbors. I'd say... 5 times out of 9... I had a pleasant stay. It was nice to be in the "main" hotel and be right where most of the action is. But that's just it - if you'd prefer not to be part of the action, I'd advise not to stay at the hyatt. :)
