Exactly. It seems that lot of people are trying to actually take away what makes us special and go "nope, sorry it's cool to like this now."

*sighs*

All the "I do this....but Im not that" is not what they were conveying. I really dont get why people keep seeing at such.

Denial=/= Transcendence

Okay. When she was playing mario, she kept on about "yee high score" , "yee coins", "yee im good" and then she said "im so and so....im not a gamer...IM A COIN COLLECTING CHAMPION (or something to that effect.)" She is not saying she isn't a gamer. No no no no no. She is implying the fact that the game isn't just a game....(im not a gamer), it is beyond a game and she has become what she is doing (im a coin collecting champion). She isnt saying or implying being a gamer is uncool. She isn't bashing hardcore fans. She is (and the ads) are simply stating that playing Nintendo games, you are doing more than gaming. You are the game.

If the last thing she said was "im not a gamer", than yeah, she WOULD be insulting gamers. Nintendo was banking on the fact folk would be perceptive to the words with the ad. It really did fly over heads. Relax everyone. Relax.

People shouldn't have to be explained what the ad meant to say. If they do then the ads were poorly conceived.

Yeah, it could have probably been worded a bit better to avoid confusion.

Exactly. Advertising has to be pretty blunt since you have little to no time to get your client's attention. Intentions mean nothing when the end result is misread. I remember those commercials for the PS3 with the baby doll thing which was super creepy. They quickly never did that again. lol

Here it is if anyone hasn't seen it.

Maybe so, and perhaps we are changing into a medium were video games are now just a intergrated part of a entertainment system. But I still don't like how suddently EVERYONE thinks they are "gamer" now.

i don't know what to say to this post without saying blanted insults, but you have to be joking. how are they ruining gaming by making it cool, how do you think you are a better man since you play "hardcore games" to someone that plays on the smart phones or not alot of time.

Yes i am a nerd, but i can say when my kind is being dumb, and this thread is full of inrashinal hate.

Just watch the new ad for Assassins Creed 3 that has some freaking bass thumbing R&B music playing for it. It shows that they are reaching for the bottom of the barrel to try and get anyone to buy this game. It's a freaking shame.

I honestly don't recall a game being advertised as much as I have seen for ACIII.

OMG they have a pop song it in, video games is ruined! the first zelda game had white man rapping. hell i seen meny games with rock or pop songs in the game adds and even in the game.

@rondo: Halo 2 had a huge hype and was the first time a tariler was shown in theaters, TOR had a big hypetrain which lead to 3 CGI tariler and adds all over the place, mind you that it wasn't untill 2007 when blizzerd release a add for wow and most other new mmos just have site adds. AC3 is just shown more on tv during sports i think but i seen 2 ads, one is the pop song, and the other is just stright up game footage/CGI taken more sarius.

Ads from the late 80's and 90's are all horriable so don't even try and compare the two. The point is that Assassions Creed is/was meant for a certain demographic and a certain mindset of gamers. (my brother has a much easier time with these types of games like assassions creed and Deus Ex then I do). For the most part the same people who are into that kind of ghetto lifestyle are only interested in certain games (like shooters or sports games). To try and show off assassions creed like it would somehow appeal to that demographic is ridiculous. And it just makes the franchise look even worse.

ok i see your point and i do agree with it, i thought you where talking about having real music in video games.

and about that subject it can work great like tony hark games, the GTA series and i really think "an't no rest for the wicked" just make borderlands more badass and fits into it silly setting.

i really felt off putt that they have a R&B song to a game that takes place in 1770's and i do know that the series is in the not far future and whatnot but they never show that part on tv. it did remind me of this movie about gangsters and cops in 1930's LA that have a rap soundtrack like it new jack city. which works for new jack city but not a movie set in a time before rap exist.

Haven't seen it on tv. Must be cable only. I see NFL/NBA more here than ACIII but it might be because of

1)My area

2)Chicago

So I only seen the ads online and in Gamestop only. But with Halo.......heard that everywhere and people now on the mmo I play are talking about Halo3 and the newest NBA game.

Honestly, I think it's pretty clear that the intent here is to make people who don't want to be seen as a gamer because of the stigma attached think it's cool to buy games. The idea is "you don't have to be a gross icky nerdy gamer to enjoy the DS!" To me it's almost impossible to not see that message here and idk how you can possibly think it's not aiming for that, XenoBlade. Taking famous people, showing them playing video games, and then having them say they aren't gamers is a pretty obvious marketing ploy towards the sort of people who turn their noses up at gamers. It's not inherently malicious towards gamers, really, because I find it hard to argue with trying to expand your consumer base, but it kind of validates the anti-gamer sentiments out there.
South Korea likes breasts.
Ukraine has breasts.
She has them in spades.
If South Korea and Ukraine were to hook up...
Then South Korea would never have a shortage of breasts ever again.
