I feel sorry for Detroit's police. Actually lots of police departments screw over their force. (Happens a lot in the poorer crime ridden areas) Seriously who wants to visit Detroit? That's like wanting to visit Gary Indiana. :/ Im pretty sure for Robocop, they just filmed Detroit without any effects or sets. Lol

That's part of the reason why I don't want to go to Youmacon; it's near Detroit. So if I wanted to "Explore the city," I'm kind of stuck/screwed if I do.

EDIT: But that's not all police officers. Here in the south side we have decent cops that actually do stuff but in turn we have a lot of not caring and dirty ones as well like in the video.

Incidents like these are not off the wall events. You can find slews of them all over the US. There was a naked Alabama college student that was shot dead by a police officer. Now grated the kid was being stupid or on drugs or something but being naked obviously means your unarmed yet the cop just shot him anyway. No taser, no mace, no baton (all those nice little "non leathel" takedown devices) And the BS is?...He's on PAID leave for this while they investigate. There are millions of stories just like these. I don't hate cops, but I certainly don't trust them or feel sorry for them either.

That's even worse :/ Detoliet+Crime rate=nah no thanks. I'm a city explorer type person and I rather not get shot going there when I can just get shot here in Chicago.

EDIT: Youma seems awesome but I can image that me being a minority, especially a dark skinned one, is going to get me screwed over in Detoliet plus I get sick in the winter time; once I caught a flu/really bad cold during a November con. I rather go to Anime Expo with my friend in California if I do have to go to out of state.

@DS: Replace them with Robocops.

I don't give them slack but I understand their situation (police go through some stuff that would break an average person.) It's a no win type so all we can do is NOT get into trouble (so that you have to deal with the police,) or hope they come through (when you do need them.)

Mind you DS I probably had worse experience than you with police.

I'll be fair. The Ren Center is a nice hotel. It's in one of the few places considered nice in the area, right across the lake from a casino in Canada. However, due to personal, business, emotional, and obvious reasons I probably won't go to another Youmacon. If you do decide to go, enjoy it, but keep your doors and windows locked once you hit Ann Arbor.

And if any of you go and happen to see an overly Irish Shinsui with a really smoking hot Soifon or Nanao from Bleach, tell them Tyler Tripp says "I think you're both terrible people and never speak to me again."

I liked youma cuz I always got a bunch of free stuff for working there. and artists ally and the dealers rooms are about as good as ACen. The atmostphere is better I think as well.

@DS: When I go to another state I go searching; did that in DC and found a REALLY awesome video game place/arcade that the tour guide wouldn't have told me. If there was a Mitsuwa in Detroit well it would be a bad experience due to the crime rate (there isn't one thankfully.)

There doesn't seem to be any appeal in Youmacon for me going by your statement that would make me go there every year instead of ACen or both. All my friends said something similar and I still don't understand the appeal; it's basically like ACen except it's compared to being in the the South side of Chicago you can hang out with more people, it's colder so that limits your cosplay options, and you can't leave the hotel unless you have no concern for your safety, even in a car because you know, people shoot at cars randomly here in Chicago on the South/West side for lulz so who won't say they won't do that in Detroit where it is worse?

At least here in Ohare you can go to Ihop and Mitsuwa and walk back and forth from hotels without having to worry about being shot or mugged. Is it because a lot of people live in Michigan on the forums/elsewhere so it's similar to me going to ACen (which is a train ride away from where I live?)

I'm not saying one is better than the other but I was trying to understand why some people actively put down one con over the other and overlook the facts I mentioned; some state pride issues?

Just learned that in IL, medicare will only pay for for 4 different types of medicine. This is a state rule, not a federal one. And yet, the state had yet to do anything about pension reform.

The IL Democratic Party: putting Union members ahead of the elderly, the poor, and the mentally/physically disabled.

What little respect I have for the Democratic party is rapidly disappearing.

Same thing happened with me recently about my medical card; I can't buy medicine for myself or my sick son so I have to buy it myself for the same price as normal store brand. It was timed at a bad time because I ran out of spare money and he just got sick.

Even if they did there are still exceptions. It would be like saying that we should be in the lower half because we are both black, despite having a high GPA and Jim Soo should be in the upper half, even though he isn't good in math, just because he's Asian.

I had a similar issue myself in high school: the teachers expected the Chinese exchange students to be so much better than us ghetto black kids, to the point that they should be doing 1st/second year Calculus and getting As and we were getting a free pass because it was 'too hard for us black kids.' Most of the exchange students were just as lazy, if not more so, and down to earth. They didn't fit the standard of hard working asian that people like to project and think.

BTW nobody passed that class; the highest was a C

I don't like the fact that Asian people have to work so hard in the upper half and the black people get free passes with this program and not work as hard. Blacks at 74 percent.....hmmmm..

@Rondo: This country working towards equality? Nah. Unless it's money involved.
