I wouldn't think the land dispute would lead to a war. We've come a long way since then. The Japanese are very respectful, soft spoken people and the JSDF are great... I would hate to see a bloody dispute over some islands.

You'd think, but there's more than islands at stake. There's the waters around it (which may have oil/gas deposits) and there's national pride--which the Japanese have a lot of. Naturally, so does China. And then there's history. Japan and China have hated each other since about the 2nd Century BC, and WWII didn't help matters.

I think what Japan's afraid of is that if they give the Senkakus to China, China will next demand the Ryukyus. I hate to Godwin the thread, but Hitler certainly proved that, if you give repressive governments an inch, they'll take a mile. Maybe China will be satisfied, but probably not. The Chinese government has a tendency to claim everything that Chinese even might have been to at one time--they used to claim Vietnam as theirs, and one weirdo Chinese general even once claimed that Hawaii was discovered by China (despite there being no evidence whatsoever that Chinese explorers even came close). When things get tough economically or politically for the Chinese government, they also have a tendency to yell "LOOK! JAPAN!" and wait for the distracting riots to start.

I'd hate to see this come to a war too, but you've got two very proud nations with a history of loathing each other.

EDIT: Some people on fb are making fun of this girl. I tried not to sound rage or butt hurt about because some of the comments were really.....cynical and stupid. Someone on my newsfeed posted it so after a few reads I kindly ignored it.

I have no idea who exactly they are because my fb is mostly for one mmo game I am addicted to: DDtank. Nothing more outside of mangafox updates and random new Japon manga. Oh and SMT debates.

To be honest I don't either DS and it's not due to my religion. I just find no reason outside of pleasing a man to shave my legs and my facial hair. I shave my face hair for work but that's really it. Its up there with high heels; why kill my feet?

I think that's another problem with this world: culture shock and too many standards.

Like if one person thinks of something and it reaches out as "society's norm," it makes people want to put down anything or anyone that doesn't follow it. Add on what culture/country you come from and you get a mess.

Some of that is our Puritan roots, yeah. I think some of it is cultural values to tease rather than show. Certainly one of the selling points of Spartacus was that you got to see Xena naked. (Eh, no big deal.) I think we're also sold unrealistic depictions of men and women. Germany and Japan are a lot more open about it.

I wonder if those unrealistic depictions are also affecting Japan. I don't know of any surveys or scientific research on this, but Japanese women seem to be getting sold that the ideal man is bishonen, whereas Japanese men are being sold that the ideal woman is a hot moe doormat. Since those kind of people are very rare in the real world, maybe Japan's flatlined birth rate is because their men and women can't find the "ideal" mate. (This, BTW, is a SWAG--Scientific Wild-A** Guess.)

I don't care for excessive PDA in public. Anything beyond a quick kiss is like "seriously, stop. just stop." (hugging is cool though) Gender has nothing to do with it. I still get surprised when I see two men holding hands. But it's really cute. Now if they were to shove their tongues down each others throats... no. Same thing with hetero couples. I find they (hetero) are worse about PDA anyways hahahaa.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I just don't care for sex everywhere... modesty is dying. Sex isn't gross, it's just something that should be more personal. In my opinion.

I don't get it either. Voter ID: show your driver's license. That's it. No biggie.

The only thing I can think of is that no voter ID would help those who bus in people from other states to vote. Which is illegal as hell, but it does happen.

People are weird in general when it comes to sex, not just the country from what I seen. In parts of the world you can marry at 13 years of age but you can't marry the same sex at all in other parts (or you have to be 18.)

In Russia it's 16 and parts of Japan it's 13, depending on the prefacture. In parts of Africa and the Middle east its illegal for same sex couples to marry.
