I agree with sent and fuji that we should come together as a nation, but we need both sides to give, dems and repubs. the jersy govenner is a good example and i hope unlike him others drop the party lines crap before millions of dollors of damages and death.

also i don't think we should start fullblown war on iran, there is ton of red tape and bullcrap that just shooting a single missle would most likly start WW3.

EDIT: remember when this forum ues to be fun, where we talk about fun stuff with sir viver and flyingelf? i miss those days.

Ok, so even though people in New York still don't have power and might be running low on food, Mayor Bloomberg still won't lift his ban on food donations or severing food to the poor because quote: "we can't analiyze the salt, fat, or fiber content of the food".....WTF!!!! The fact that people still vote for this human excrement boggles my mind.

i am on the same boat as fuji i have no money and i hope to get some help with that, also before anyone accuse me of being a lazy lawyer, i have been in mental health care since i started school i haven't been in a real school since 2nd grade, and i had a huge paying job that i got fired for by a women who stright up screwed me over, so now i want to work on cotrolling my bi polor, and this is said to do this by my hard working brother who hates obama andvoted mitt.

The forum, any forum, thrives on the content/discussions drawn up by its constituents. If there are no *fun* things going on, that fault can only be left at the feet of the very people who frequent the forum. If you want fun things, start a thread about..well, fun things.

What you may be feeling is the fact, as evidenced by your own comment, that some people who used to frequent the boards more often just aren't here as much, if at all, anymore. These things happen...various reasons are probably at play here: Life gets in the way, moved on to other interests, not interested in the topics being posted.

On a personal level, I can't say for sure if this is the normal way of things at this time of year or things have genuinely changed. I haven't been this regularly active before.

I'd probably draw up more threads if I thought people would participate in the discussions...though my range of topics could vary wildly. While I like day to day non-serious stuff, I also enjoy discussing things that are a bit more serious. But that's just me.

Oh, I'm just gonna bring this up:

This could very well be the difference between support among the two parties. Well, maybe. Of course, it's foolish to base off the 10 top vs the bottom 10; but, the information implied is still relevant.

Yeah, I get it. "HUR HUR REPUBLICANS ARE DUMB."

Trust me, I work in academia. I work with some of the most well-educated idiots in the nation. Just yesterday, I had to correct a fellow professor about Chinese-Americans being interned in WWII--in that we interned Japanese-Americans in WWII. This woman has a PhD in sociology. I think I've already introduced this board to the "Lincoln Was a Racist" mouth-breather with two PhDs, a couple of books, and tenure.

Then we have such leading lights of academia like Howard Zinn (who thought the Revolution was fought for purely economic reasons), Noam Chomsky (thought that the Khmer Rouge and the killing fields of Cambodia was simply awesome), and all the professors who worship at the feet of Che Guevara (a psychopath who enjoyed murdering clergy). Oh, and then there's Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood: a woman who supported abortion because it would help with ethnic cleansing, who thought blacks should be a permanent uneducated underclass, and sent a love-what-you're-doing note to Heinrich Himmler.

All these people voted for Obama...except for Che and Sanger, who are dead. Castro endorsed Obama, though, and Planned Parenthood went to bat for the Democrats as well.

I'm not saying that, if you voted for Obama, you dig genocide. Not at all. However, if I did say that, it would make as much sense as that chart, which implies if you voted for Romney, you're an uneducated moron.

My grandfather never completed high school (a little thing called the Great Depression got in the way), but he had a lot of common sense. He never went to college and worked on the railroad for 35 years, and he was damn good at it. Don't confuse education with brains.

If we're going to get this country united, the name-calling has to stop. Calling 49% of the nation stupid because they didn't vote your way is going to piss off 49% of the nation, who are increasingly tired of hearing it. What happens when Americans stop talking and yelling at each other?

This happens.

Funny. Since when did having a college degree made someone actually smarter. I've met some of the dumbest people and they have college degrees. Why? Because they haven't spend any time in the real world. They've been in their little bubble of schooling/partying/hanging out/ etc. I always find it funny that people think college will someone make someone automatically smarter in EVERYTHING. It's a joke.

Iran's leaders want a war. With Israel certainly; with us probably. They think that their blind devotion to a version of Islam that even Osama bin Laden thought extreme is going to bring about their version of the Second Coming. Think of Gendo Ikari, except less sane, more fanatic and more nuclear armed. The Iranian people don't really want war--not even with Israel--but they don't have any power to prevent it.

It's not a question of the United States starting it, it's a question of Iran starting it. Our next war will almost certainly start soon in Mali, be limited (like Libya) and hopefully have a better outcome.

To answer the "forum and fun" question--well, there is the Insanity Forum. But I see no reason not to start fun threads here, too...

1. No I've never known anyone in any of the jobs I've worked at since I was 18. Always got there on my own and my own work experience. Yes, I've kept most of my jobs for at least a year or more. 3. I'm actually getting training to be assistant manager of my department right now. Hopefully working it up the ladder. 4. The job is paying me what the job is worth. The longer I stay there the more I will get. You will never step foot into a job (espically with no work experience) and expect to get a huge hr wage. Isn't gonna happen.

And yes, you should be fired for all those above reasons.
Jobs most of the time tell people they are "overqualified" because most of the time someone who has a college degree instantally thinks they should be paid more. Even in a place where it's just a plain old labor intensive job that doesn't need a degree, they will proabably pick the person who doesn't have one because they can start them out at a lower wage. And depending on the job you have to work around THIER sechdule. Not the other way around. If you go into retail and expect to have whatever day off you want during the christmas season you're out of your mind. They won't hire someone who is that picky over what days they wanna work. And if you "must have a computer" to check job emails there a little free place a libary that lets you use them for free. Easy solution there.

For the first part:
You I still consider a lucky man like my uncle. My cousin couldn't even find a job until she hit 23 (she works at a bar at the airport,) and I didn't find one until I hit 21-22. My uncle funny enough had a job paying about 5-10k per month (ten years ago,) and lost it because he kept having drunk wild sexy parties after check day.

People don't think like you and me and Sent and Rondo. Most people are generally lazy, (unless it matter to their morals/personality/standards,) and do not do things outside of what is the "min. effort," feel that the world or humanity owes them something (ha,) or give up after a somewhat trying exertion and take the easy way out. I know you heard of the person who was looking for work for 10+ years and couldn't find a job during Bush/Obama's terms. So that's why I consider you lucky; most people can't keep jobs or find them as easy as you did, especially if I go by the fact that you worked some of them for a year and found another job right away.

For the second part:

Library isn't that great here in Chicago:

-You can't print without paying 15-30 cents per page depending

-If you owe anything you can't use the computers period

-If you use the computers AFTER 1pm, expect overflow due to high school kids checking facebooks. Especially express computers. (WELL in my area. If you go downtown expect people looking at porn and this.)

My job in question emails random hours; 6am to sometimes 11pm due to call offs because sometimes we have to work at 4am in the morning. We do have computer centers (which are free,) but for some reason our state is closing them down.

So for jobs like this, it's better to just have a computer than to think outside the box and go to a free library or a paying cafe. I'm grateful for a ocmputer; less perverts except for myself.

Well I worked in retail and it really depends on different factors:

1) If you are seasonal, part time, or full time.

2)What position you are in.

Managers are over everyone but the GM and the SM. Full time get more off days, paid off days, and priority than seasonal and part time in terms of lay offs, etc. unless they do something really bad. Part time are over seasonal.

I remember a time period in my last job at BR that everyone who worked full time was off before and during the holidays (two weeks to a month,) and it was only the part time as well as seasonal workers. It was a problem because we had to have our GM work stock checks. It wasn't a black out day mind you. Our manager (who we only have one in our position,) was also gone so we didn't have a manager for a while either, (outside of the GM.)

But I'm not saying this isn't all retail. This is from what I seen in Gap/Banana republic, so I have no idea if Macy's or any place else suffers from this. So my view is slightly one linear.

Huh? Do you have a citation about people with degrees that think that they are "holy thou you?" when applying for a job and think they deserve more money? I never heard of this. I heard of people thinking this period because of the "yeah I'm better than anyone else because only my opinion/life matters," but not a specific catagory of people. I know jobs have told some of my past co workers that they were over qualified for having like 10+ experience trying to work at the Gap or BK.

So it looks like the US has a new supercomputer champion of the world coming in at a hefty $100 million price tag and full of NVIDIA. Link

And after looking at the hot toys of 2012 list, has anyone head of a game called Mice and Mystics?

Nexus 7. Too cheap and you risk giving them crap and having to root for Google Play. Or you could look for refurbs.

Kindle Fire is on sale for $130 with adverts.

Ergh, Black Friday creeping up on Thanksgiving. Is nothing safe?

I just don't see the attraction in leaving your nice cozy family dinner to go out in the cold and fight with hundreds of other people for stuff that you can probably get cheaper over the internet anyway.

If people keep shopping why not? I'm pissed about it since I'm working both jobs now on thanksgiving and christmas, but it's not the busniesses fault. They are just following the money. If people really cared they wouldn't shop that early. So now I'm committed to not only NOT saying anything along the lines of it being a hoilday (since hoildays normally mean time off) I'm also going to correct people when they say either happy thanksgiving or christmas and remind them that that is a dead hoilday now that nobody actually celebrates. Cuz celebrating would mean not actually doing anything excepting being with family.

Nice.

I looked up that Mice and Mystics game. Looks like a board game..that's pretty freakin' expensive.

People keep shopping in droves at B&M's because they don't know you can do just as well online. I'll be spending most of my BF shopping on the information super highway/shopping center (amazon).

But that's the problem; it's up to the businesses to do the final say so. The people who are working at Walmart until after Thanksgiving have families too. Some of them don't but many of them do as well. This would be different if this was the first time doing it but apparently after someone stole 360s and beat someone's butt over a Wii they decided the figures were good enough to do it again, even earlier than last year. It doesn't help that Walmart, Target, etc. hype this up so it makes it even worse, since this country is so commericalized.

I worked in retail and Thanksgiving was optional and double overtime as well as Xmas eve. Xmas was closed; period. We had people come in the store but it was still OPTIONAL, we didn't work until 9pm after Thanksgiving, and if we did overnights we had the option to leave early for families.

For Walmart not only is it not double overtime, but its a blackout day (which means you can't call off or have that day off,) and you HAVE to work it from what I asked from Walmart associates. Also I heard that Walmart is open Xmas too? That in itself is wrong. It's the business as well as the people's fault.

The stupid people for actually coming to get fifty bucks off a crockpot as well as the businesses for not caring about people in the first place.

EDIT: This is why I never go to Black fridays, period. If I want a system so badly cheap I can go on ebay or Amazon and do it.

You actually think a business is going to say no to money? Never gonna happen. They are going to push the line until the consumer stops giving them money. And since the common day consumer is about as smart as a bag of wet mice, they are not going to stop this anytime soon.

Also in other crasiness. Uganda's parliment has pretty much stated that they will pass their anti gay bill. Which not only means that you will get either life in prison or the death peneldy for being gay. If you leave, you can also be exstrodited back for being gay as well. As well as busniessess being closed if they show support for gays. So, question Obama....WHY THE FRACK ARE WILL STILL GIVING THEM BILLIONS?! Ugh! The nerve of it all.

That's why it's the business fault as well as the people. Businesses don't care about people period. Just saying, "Oh they are just businesses that's how they are," is the reason why businesses are making money and not giving any back to this country when they oversource or decide to hire people under the table.

Here's one link at least for the bill: www.voanews.com/content/uganda-moves-forward-on-anti-gay-bill/1545323.html

Unless you say that and then don't spend money on those businesses. Actually putting your money where you mouth is will actually solve things. But just grumbling about it and then shelling out money anyway IS the reason businesses are getting away with as much as they are.

It's a joke.

well, it's not like 'being in the real world' denotes any sort of actual intelligence, either.

you're definitely right that a degree doesn't mean someone is smarter--plenty of complete morons have a college degree and
plenty of highly intelligent people don't--but using this chart is simply a broad way of judging the intelligence of the respective state
and you know it. having a state full of college graduates certainly doesn't indicate that you're DUMBER than a state without any.

Thanks for the link.

Well that's impossible. You would have to buy from small businesses all the time and then there are things that you just can't buy so it's a Catch 22. I don't personally shop at Walmart after an incident with returning an defective airbed that the customer service (who were women,) threw the receipt at me, refused to give me a refund, refuse to give me or call customer service/ SM even after I called them myself showing that their policy was wrong, and above all refused to give me a refund even after they said they would over the phone. Mind you I was there for two hours arguing back and forth before they finally called the store manager.

-You can buy from thift stores but if you need shoes in a specific size you need to buy from a major retail store. Or specific clothing.

-You can buy food from online but then its hard when you need food right away or a specific food item (Jewels/Food4less/etc. big businesses.)

-You can buy video games from smaller stores/Chicago craigslist but what if you want a new video game or they don't have a system you want to buy as a gift? (Best buy/Walmart/Gamestop/etc.)

It's hard to stick it to the man when your opinions are limited. I'm complaining because one of the major issues of this country is that businesses go over all but the government, and in some cases they go over the government. I am debating if I should move to another country and what country would be go to move in the future.

Well there are always options. While shoes may be a pain. If you really don't want to go to major retailer (and throw away tons of cash) there are still other options. At the very least you could proabably find better deals online for shoes then you could getting them from a store (depending on shipping and all).

Food?...yeah that does suck. but it still doesn't excuse people from shopping on what is suppose to be a closed national holiday. You literally have weeks to plan for things like this. Should I really have to be away from my family and at work just in case someone forgets a extra can of corn or cassorole? That's just bad planning.

And video games? Bah, I've only bought..(looks at shelf) 3 games in the past like 3 years new from a major retailer. And all of them were more then 50% off. Everything I buy is used or from smaller chains. Even systems. And don't forget the online componiet to that one as well.

All in all there isn't any excuse for people to shop on holidays. They just care more about shopping then they do for their actual family.

On the retailing discussion, I've been involved in all parts of the retail chain as part of my entire employment history. I've done my time around the holidays both on the front line and in the war room, so to speak.

That being said, I have no issue if a business wants to operate on a national holiday if they wish to (unless they have an antiquated blue law to adhere by). Some business go out of their way to give their employees holidays and special occasions off (Raising Canes comes to mind) but others, such as the big box stores, don't simply have that luxury.

For many retailers, you make your yearly profits heavily in the 4th quarter. Not only that, most businesses endure fierce competition during this time of year for those crucial sales. They simply can't sit on their rears and let the competition get an upper hand. You have to do what you need to in order to compete. If this means being open earlier than usual, have unusual hours, work on a holiday...then so be it.

The holidays have gone commercialized to the point that it's not about spending time with their family members but about buying that big ticket item as cheap as possible before the holidays are over with.

@DS: I mean in general its hard to shut down big businesses. Even if you don't shop during the holidays it's really hard to not shop at one because of said reasons. Right now I'm trying to buy everything from Amazon and online but you have people who don't know/don't care/don't want to use computers for shopping and rather have a hands on gathering and experience and "I want what I want right now." I talked to some people at work and almost all of them were going to major chains like Walmart, Best buy, etc. to do Black friday and pre Xmas shopping.

Its like the 1st and the 2st in terms of shopping with Black friday; everyone gets their food stamps and buy food then, no matter what, thus businesses get the most revenue then and they don't really care about their workers or getting the people out fast enough, just the money.

Oh, I'm not saying we should run them out of business or anything. I'm saying that if all consumers actually stop shopping on these "hoilday" sales because they want to be with their familes the companies would notice because they wouldn't be getting any money and then they wouldn't waste money of paying wages to people being a building with nothing really to do.

And there are ways around the competition besides ruining a hoilday. Could you imagine the sales AND the positive PR is a major retailer said, "Hey, We are having a Black Friday sale on wenesday. Because we want everyone to be with their familes for the holidays. Not only are you beating the compitition in early sales, you also get tons of positive PR, which leads to more people coming back to your store.

DS you should be a boss for the second statement. Just saying.

Problem is that people are idiots. You have the types that REALLY want the damn sale, period. Here is the solution: http://finance.yahoo...-021400062.html Go online for everything -facepalms-
