Checking in on everyone!

First off, thank you to everyone who tolerated the cold this last weekend (then it got to 85 today.. what gives?)..

How are you all doing? Not sick, I hope! No costume injuries sustained?

Even though I was indoors pretty much the whole time both cosplays had long sleeves, so I was fine with the temperature! :) I'd rather be a little chilly than sweating profusely.

I didn't make it to any photo shoots, being in the Artist's Alley all day, but I still cosplayed and had fun! n_n

Hope everyone had a great time, got lots of pictures taken, and stayed healthy!

Not sick (well, more than usual - in fact, I managed to work a couple whole 8-hour shifts this week!), though I think the only reason for that is because after Friday's exceptionally cold Tiger & Bunny shoot, I went back to my room and went to bed with the electric blanket I brought and stayed under it for the next 11 hours. I'm not sure if the cold just affected me so badly I needed that much sleep, or if I was somehow doing so poorly that I needed that much sleep and thus the cold affected me more than usual or what, but I'm glad I listened to my body and went with it.

As far as injuries go, I still have a nasty scrape on my left leg from one of Lunatic's stupid boots - darned thing chafed with every step I took during the trial run Friday afternoon, so even though I got smart and wore protection on that part of my leg during the real thing Saturday night, I already had a bright ugly red line across my knee. :P

...Aaaaand just tonight got started on the new costume for my next con, because I don't know what to do with myself when not obsessively working on costumes. ;)

My Rip van Winkle wig is slowly dying D: I need some way to figure out how to remake the curly hair without completely damaging it.....I had sewn it all but apparently that didn't work as well because it came apart still lol.

I was smart this year and just wore flat shoes that I knew were comfortable. Pretty sure I'll be doing the same next year....maybe might torture myself for awhile with heels xD We'll see.

And other than my normal excited/somewhat anxiety inducing nausea, I made it to the convention in one piece and came out of it in one piece. Made sure to eat food (even if it comprised of snacking most of the day) and get plenty of sleep xD My boyfriend was kind enough to drive the rest of the way home from Milwaukee to Green Bay after I had driven from the convention center to my dorm in Milwaukee because I was tired, though <3

Very minor blisters on my big toes but they don't even hurt, they just look dumb. Also going to have to try and clean up the white cloud trim on my dress, but that was pretty sure to be a given with the weather and general dirtiness of the con.

Really I'm super thrilled, I was pretty sure I was going to roll an ankle this year and I did a surprisingly good job and very little damage (albeit I did have to get out of them after 7 hours, the walk back to my room was very slow with many breaks for resting my legs and feet XD )

But yeah, already healed, already making plans to start working out for next years cosplay ideas.

I have the con plague.

My Alucard (Hellsing) hat is slowly falling apart. Considering the fact that I bought it in 2006 from a Goodwill store and have worn it every year, it has lasted a good long time.

I still have a bit of a cold, but I'm feeling better. My cosplay was warm this year so I didn't have to worry at all about the weather! But I have to say that my feet are killing me. Not because of my cosplay boots, but my 6 inch heels that I had to wear for two fashion shows. That killed me. x__x

It was inevitable that the boot covers for my Takuto outfit began to disintegrate since they were cloth- meant to do something about them 2 cons ago to make the bottoms more durable but kept forgetting/putting it off- will need to fix that when I wear it next time.

Otherwise, since I was wearing that plus my Izumi outfit (with winter hat), I actually felt right at home in the colder weather. I usually don't get sick after conventions, it's usually fatigue that gets to me...

Sick, but it was something that was coming on well before Acen. Costumes are good, and working on new ones for next year. Still feeling guilty over my photoshoot, going to have to make up for it next year and set things up in a way with family so that I can be there on time and still make them happy with my eating with them in the morning.

Even though both my cosplays this year were pretty revealing, they were warm for the most part ^^ One had sleeves which I used to shield by midriff from the cold. The other was a bubblewrap dress that only covered my chest to about my ankles and didn't have sleeves or anything. But I learned that bubblewrap does not breathe AT ALL and therefore was pretty warm with just that little bit on xD

One of my cosplays was white and got dirty from sitting in the grass during a photoshoot, but it washed out alright. And my bubblewrap dress started to split in the front, but not enough that it was leaving me indecent, and it was a quick fix when I got home. ^^

Somehow missed out on the con plague as well, thankfully! I was comfortable temperature-wise pretty much the whole weekend, too, thanks to layering. Though, sadly one of my costumes came away stained from my Sharpie markered wig. I had a feeling it would happen, and at least it's just around the back of the neck, but still pretty sad. Otherwise everything is intact, which is kind of a small miracle, lol. Something almost always comes back broken. :P

My entire group caught something contagious!

I don't know what it was from but there was a lot of running noses, fevers, dizziness, and just feeling like crud. My Canada was the first down, and because he's a hugger we all went down within a week. Hmm now that I think about it, my whole group of 10 are quite touchy feely. DX It wasn't from the weather because we were all In military jackets and sweatshirts. (heck, I was In a past-knee length jacket, boots, a scarf, and a wig) Perhaps we caught something because of little/no sleep and a diet of pizza and cupcakes? Lol

It's good to hear that not everyone is dead. I'm still a bit out of it though. (my friends call it post-con depression disorder, but that's irrelevant)

My cosplay is still entirely intact! A little blue frosting from a cupcake on the white scarf, bit that's all!!

Did you make sure to use the rubbing alcohol when dying your wig? If you can go through and use the sharpie dying method (sharpie ink/FW ink/India ink + 70% rubbing alcohol) and make sure to -really- rinse it out, you should be good for the next run! Alternatively, rubbing alcohol should help rub it off if it gets on your skin.

I actually tried that method twice, but the wig wasn't taking the color, so I ended up just Sharpie-ing it by hand since it was a short wig. I've used the sharpie/alcohol spray method on two different wigs in the past and loved the results - this was the first time I couldn't get it to work. :(

Of course the worst part of this story is that the wig I needed became available in the color I needed the day after I finished Sharpie-ing it... oh, such a cruel twist of fate! ^_^;;

Could it be that the type of wig had a chemical or material to it that didn't take? I think most wigs have some sort of label that will say what they are made of, maybe do a google search and see if anyone else had the same issue with that sort of wig?

Man don't you hate when that happens? :(

I did look it up later and found out that that particular wig fiber didn't take Sharpies well (or at the very least took other methods better). Considering that, I was glad I got it to work at all, in the end! I hadn't considered that different wig fibers might not take the Sharpie method - lesson learned!

But yeah, I was pretty bummed - I didn't touch it for a month after that, debating if I should just get the replacement or save the money but potentially stain the costume (what can I say, I'm a cheapskate, lol).
