Ok. I had this feeling at ACEN last year (about the social atmosphere change) and it seems to have hit full swing this year while I read through many pages of complaints. I'm really wondering/thinking about trying to help start or to find out if there is a 18+ con anywhere. Heck maybe even a 21+ con. I know this will lastly limit the potential amount of congoers but I think it's worth it to have a con that can be respectful to all things (people, hotel, staffers, etc.) and still be able to party responeablly. Because as much as I love the peaceful social atmosphere in the daylight of a con, it's also my vacation and I wanna let lose and have some fun at night.

Of course to do that one would not only have to really have to do some really good convicing that a 18+ doesnt' mean it's just a sex filled con (even though sex is very fun ) Also secerity would have to do a serious and some might even consider rude treatment to people that do break the rules. They would have to really patorl and crack down and all sorts of losers who make us congores look bad.

Is there such a con? Would anyone come? Or am I gonna have to try and make it happen? If I do, PLEASE HELP!

Gonna suggest Anime Punch here. We have the highest average age of any con in the midwest and heavily market ourselves to a college aged audience and atmosphere. The parties are pretty wild, but are mostly contained to one floor so if you want to sleep, you can just request not on the party floor. I run security and rare is it that I have problems with anyone. I find most people are respectful to me if I'm respectful to them.

If you want a strictly 18+ experience, we also run Fieldcon which is a small con of anime fans out in the middle of the woods. As in like an hour from civilization. Its only about 60 people though.

Also just a thought along the same lines. What if not only us the Acen normal upstanding congoers come but also the great staff I know that works for ACEN comes as well it would be even better. Because with all the grips about everything this year I know that pretty much 90-98% of all the staff at acen are really great people that get thrown under the bus alot with orders from idk where.

Back in 2008, there was an attempt made to have an anime convention where attendance would be restricted to adults. ANN staffer Mike Toole notes that it was a good idea that didn't make money.

I have attended some local sci-fi and comics cons, as well as PAX Prime. They were decent events. Generally speaking, the attendees were adult men. (I wonder if that tendency will prove true at Midwestria? Hmm...)

As nice as that would be for me personally now that I'm 21, I think an age restricted convention would be a little unfair to the community. Especially since a LOT of anime is directed at the high school age group. And by that, I mean most anime.

While it could be seen as unfair, it would be a nice change of pace. There are plenty of all ages cons out there. Why not have an adult one?

I'm up for an Adult-Only con (that isn't the Adult Entertainment Expo, lol.) Anyway, ACen promotes itself as an all-ages con, but I think they're fooling themselves with a lot of the cosplays, panels, etc. they have there. I mean, I'm not saying ACen is all bad for children, but I think it should stop claiming to be a "family convention" because it isn't.

Well I'll spare another rant on that, but I think ACen should cater a few events held by the convention itself like a dance and/or social that's only for 18 or 21+. Honestly, the Soap Bubble should be that kind of an event. I'm kind of surprised when I see parents bring their children into the event because honestly IMO it's not the kind of event that would be proper for that, but whatever I suppose.

Hmm, maybe I'll check out Anime Punch one day. Sounds like it could be fun. But yeah, a convention more geared strictly towards adults but isn't filled with porn would be cool. I don't mind conventions being all-ages though, it would just be cool if more held some 18+ or 21+ events late night.
