As for the dome-breaker... your friend was a (feminine hygiene product) who put a huge dent in a weekend people wait a whole year for, and I'm afraid to say that (femine hygiene product)-baggery is highly contagious under said circumstances. This $#%* is not funny. Period.

"Period" is also a feminine thing. Just saying since you're on that theme :)

Last I heard, the guy who triggered the alarm was caught, arrested and is facing felony charges. Which, all things considered, is a far, far better, safer place for him to be lest the cosplayers whose skits got cut and the masquarade staff get hold of him.

And that's before we factor in the attendees that had to stand out in the cold and then get disappointed that the main event got sheared down to the bare bones.

Yeah, if he hasn't made bail, I believe he's safer in jail right now.

As for the guy who broke the dome, if the person who said they knew who it was would be so kind as to send what they know to MAPS or upper convention management, they can still probably send him a bill through thier lawyer and perhaps start recovering damages.

One thing for sure is that either playing with the fire extinguisher in the false alarm or even pulling it is a hefty fine, it's about $10,000. so the person that did it definitely will get their punishment for sure if there were arrested now or later.

But aren't there also cameras that they can look at video footage to see who was involved so they can at least get a sense of what the person looked like or use it as evidence so if they do think they caught the person they can prove it?

Oh, I wish you had come see my department! We would have given you a pass to make sure you could step out of line to get a drink or sit down, pregnant definitely counts for that! **HUGS** If you do come back next year, *please* come see us (we offer help for nursing moms too!)

KnitChick, I just said the same thing in a PM before I got down to your post :)

I sure hope the person was actually trying to put out a fire if they were screwing around with that fire extinguisher. I was on the first floor of the Hyatt when the alarms went off and that was a frightening experience. I can't thank the con-goers, IRT, and the local police and fire departments enough for being kind and considerate.

Someone stated that they were looking for a woman that had broken a toe trying to get down the stairs during the evacuation. Is there any thread or word about how she's doing? It's terrible that anyone got hurt during this incident, and I really hope that was the worst injury.

And...I can't second the comments above about turning in the jerk(s) who damaged the hotel last year throwing a keg.

Heathery, without getting into details the woman that was injured was quickly tended to by our EMRT staff and transferred over to the car of Rosemont EMS from what I heard. Can't go into too much detail. There were I think a total of 3 EMRT (medical) calls during that period and all were handled quickly and efficiently.
All in all from what I heard IRT did an excellent job along with the rest of staff in evacuating people and then trying to get them back in as soon as possible. The EMRT crews on duty did an excellent job in handling calls that were not in their normal realm and in general, with the mass amounts of people all filing onto Bryn Mawr Rd and River Road I assume, too, it was very well organized chaos is probably the best way to put it. I am sorry to those who missed opportunities and I can understand your frustration especially after spending a lot of time putting things together and hopefully you will be able to apply them next year.

Edited to include another response in the same message :)

Thanks for everyone's concern.

I guess when I posted on to this thread I was really upset about what had happened.
And yeah you guys are right, after thinking about it, it's not really their fault or anything else they could have done.
It was just frustrating that the concert took longer and caused all the delays.
I can't imagine the anger of those who were waiting outside the whole time.

-It didn't really occur to me to go to the Special Needs place because I didn't see my situation fitting under that category. All I needed to be comfortable is have snacks and water and I was fine, but at that time I had ran out on "supplies" so I was getting fussy. And it was kinda hard to be weaving through the crowd without getting dirty looks lol If I do return, my little one is definitely cosplaying with me :D

If I had to suggest maybe hand out those tickets you get on a roll according to the total amount of seats there are, and give them to the people in line? Or have people start lining out for events when everything is going as scheduled before the event. In the masquerades' example, have the line start out when the concert was close to finishing their show. Since they still have to escort that audience and briefly clean the place for the next show.

-If this 2012 thing does go down, at least I'll know I lived my life to the fullest and happy where I ended up.
