I have hair down past my waist (thick and naturally wavy but ill have a hair treatment and it'll be straightned) , and I just know I'm going to have issues getting it into my wig cap, let alone my wig. I need advice and how to do this, plus I need to get a wig cap. I have no idea what to buy. Nylon, fishnet, etc.

Anyone who might be willing to help me pin my hair up for Saturday would be in my debt. I've heard french braiding and coiling it up is best?

I have longer hair as well (not as long as yours, my is down at about the bottom of my shoulder blades) and i make my own wig cap out of old nylons, but I make sure the nylons I use (the reason I say this because not all pairs of nylons have this) is a elastic waistband on them that keeps it on your head well. The waistband forms to your head and once the wig cap is on, your hair is getting NO WHERE.

It might be a little harder with your length of hair, but what might help is putting your hair into a pony tail. The exact way I put on my wig cap and pin my hair is I put my hair into a low riding pony tail (so it doesn't create a huge bump from being high) and pin it with bobbypins and flat hair clips to my head, flattening the pony tail, hairspraying it to keep it flat, and then putting on the wig cap. It keeps your hair in place and helps flatten it as much as I can because like you, I have long wavy and super thick hair. Believe it or not the hairspraying and pinning the pony tail doesn't really tangle your hair, even with all the hair spray in it especially if you brush your hair before putting your hair into the pony tail. The reason why I do this is that I can't French braid whatsoever. XD!
Hope this helps. :D

I have pretty long ( almost at natural waist) straight though rather thin hair and this honestly works for me every time

materials :
wig cap ( any wig / beauty supply store should have some for pretty cheap. $1-2. ) I prefer nylon ones. it feels more, even?
some form of hair pins ( the snappy kind are my personal favorite)

pin bangs to close to top of my head
flip all my hair upside down and pin ( I do maybe 4 spots) as much of the hair loosely to my head
then I place the wig cap over all this nonsense , sometimes I'll even pin the cap to my hair for extra support
place wig over wig cap
and it works pretty darn well

Plus it is pretty easy to take off after a long day at the con.

That is some long hair :) I might suggest two french braids, one on either side of your head and then pin or tuck the extra braid then the wig cap of course. I do okay at french braiding others hair but I just can't seem to manage to do my own... sigh It is harder to do it in reverse and not seeing what you are handling ;)

Like the others have said before, I would suggest braiding. Since you have thicker hair, that might be the easiest way. I have longer hair (to about mid-back) but because it's fine, all I have to do is scrunch it all up on my head and pin the crap out of it (or I do pin curls because then when I take my wig off, I have curly awesome hair the next day for any outfits! XD) If there are any wig stores near you, they are always good places to get wig caps and accessories. Otherwise, if you don't have that to your disposal, I would use the nylons and make your own. The only thing is, I would either find, or make a band out of that rubber grip stuff (almost like the stuff you put on the bottom of baby booties; you can buy it by the yard or in packaging in the notions section at JoAnns). That way, when you have the nylon, and when you have the band, it keeps both the wig cap and the wig itself on. My mom doesn't have any hair at all, so that is what she uses to keep her wigs on (since she doesn't need a hair net or anything).

This is kind of what I'm talking about: http://s.tidebuy.com.../255887_1_m.jpg

If I can find someone to french braid my hair Friday night or Saturday, I will do it. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you and can't do it to my own hair. *sigh*

I was thinking of pin curls, but its the same as french braiding, ill need help. When my hair is straightned it becomes much more managable, esspecially with the keratin treatment I have.

Do you sew the hole on top shut or just pin it?

I I have pretty long, thick, wavy hair. It goes to the middle of my back. I've never used a wig cap. I just put my hair in a low ponytail, then bobby pin the tail to my head, spiraling it around the top of my head. If I've got the time I'll straighten it first, which makes it easier. And then a bunch of hairspray to keep flyaways in their place!

In regards to French Braiding, look up some youtube videos. That's where I learned to french braid my hair, and I'm honestly much better at doing my own hair than anyone elses. Also, try braiding it when your hair is wet, like right after you shower. I can't french braid dry hair for the life of me. When it's wet the clunks of hair stay together nicer and aren't big and frizzy yet.

In any case, you should just try a few methods and see what works best for you ^^ Don't wait until a day or two before the con to try and figure it out, and if your plan requires someone helping you, make sure you've got a back-up plan in case they bail or something.

I've tried both tying the legs into a really small knot and also tried pinning the hole shut with pins. Either worked fine for me, tying I had better mindset with so I didn't worry about the wig cap magically becoming unpinned. And I thought that a "bump" would show with me tying a little knot on top, it actually didn't. It was just a teeny knot just to get the middle to come together, and then after I cut the legs off. XD

Mine was well past my shoulders last year, and I did a medium ponytail, wrapped it around my head, and then used a nylon wig cap (i buy mine off ebay, $4 for 2 = steal to me) and it worked great. I had a short version of your long one for my Rose, and it really did work amazing. :)

This is the particular method I use:

Part 1: http://taeliac.devia...ncurls-45164922
Part 2: http://taeliac.devia...wigcap-45629366
Part 3: http://taeliac.devia...-a-wig-48000503

For part one I generally would put my entire head up in pin curls rather than french braiding the back.

My hair is very thick and I've used this method when it reached all the way down to the small of my back so I can tell you it for sure works with long hair.

You can pick up a package of 2 wig caps at Sally's for around $2. They aren't the best but they do the job and, if you have a Sally's near you, you'll know that they're going to be in your hands prior to the convention rather than hoping nothing happens with shipping them from somewhere.
