For those of you not familiar with me a quick introduction. I'm Norm, aka FlyingElf and have been a member in the ACen and anime community for quite some time. I have been contacted to run karaoke this year and being that I don't run a standard style of karaoke that ACen is used to, I wanted to give people the heads up on it ahead of time as well as the ability to make requests.

I've run karaoke at just about every convention in the midwest at some point over the last 6 years. Those of you who frequent karaoke around cons probably best know me from somewhere, though lately my home has been Youmacon. I plan on running karaoke the same way as I always do, and for those of you who have never been to one of my shows, I wanted to lay it out for you real quick.

I am a strong believer that as this is an anime convention, all karaoke done should have some kind of nerd cred to it. Preferably in the form of anime, video game, jpop, jrock, etc. I'm not saying you have to sing in Japanese as there are plenty of great English songs (see the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack) in anime and video games. I don't do this to hate on American music. I love American music. I listen to far more American than Japanese music these days. However, this is the only chance most of these people will get to perform the song they want to perform all year. You can go to any bar in America and sing Journey, but ask to throw down something from Vocaloid and you'll get some pretty strange looks.

I understand not everyone is going to agree with this theory and to them I can only say I'm sorry. Maybe the group Saturday night will be more open to that. Though if you absolutely have to get your fix of "Total Eclipse of the Heart", there is surely a nearby bar that can accommodate you. I know I'd be more than happy to join you in a verse in my room after the event.

The second reason for this post is to take requests. I have a fairly extensive library, but I always want to give people the chance to request their songs so I can make sure I have them available for you at the event. Don't be afraid of saying something that should be obvious. Like yes, I probably do have the English Sailor Moon opening, but there is no shame in asking so that I can confirm and make sure. I've gone through about 5 hard drives in the last 6 or 7 years. Some obvious things can and will get lost along the way.

Other than that, feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I am more than happy to answer them. Hope to see you there!

Right now my only requests are English versions of anime/video game music but you acknowledged that so kudos there. Perhaps another request I have is music from the Sonic games such as Sonic Boom(Sonic CD), Open Your Heart and It Doesn't Matter (Sonic Adventure). If you can do that, great! If not, no worries.

The opening themes to great teacher Onizuka XD Drivers high by L'arc-en-ciel and Hitori No Yoru by Porni Grafitti also Songs from the Pillows that were in FLCL i know a friend who might be up for singing those as well as myself lol.

I actually don't think I have a lot of the sonic songs which is probably an addition I should make. Oddly this is my first request for them...Maybe Generations brought some of that old music back to life a bit...

Bringing your own song on your own device is very much encouraged so you know it will be available and the correct version. I don't have an ipod myself, so I don't have any of the weird apple cables, so you should probably bring yours. Hooking other devices into the sound system is rarely a problem though and I've done everything from ipods to cds to usb sticks to hard drives to cell phones...

About the only Karaoke songs are Disney, and while there are definately some disney nerds out there... I'm guessing these wouldn't qualifiy??

Disney is one of those gray areas that is always going to exist. I would say talk to me at the event about what Disney song you want to do and I'll try to figure something out. Typically, I would say no, but depending on how the flow of the evening is going, I may allow it.

Haha, that is like THE disney requirement. Honestly, stuff like this, if I do it, I usually reserve it for later in the night. Like if the crowd dies down and the patrons are a little more "loose" and the event takes more of a fun then a serious swing. Which is why I will likely play it by ear. Since this is my first ACen show its really hard to say how things will play out. If Youmacon is any indication though, it stays pretty serious and hardcore throughout the entire event. Typically I have to close sign ups 20 minutes into the event because I'm full up.

Dude, OMG. I think I am officially a fan of your style. Previous years I'd walk past the karaoke rooms and just sort of die a little inside when everything that was being sung was, well, like out of karaoke at a bar or from the Disney channel (and I don't mean movie songs).

Have a sizable Japanese library and you've sealed the deal.

Thank you very much. My library is still being worked on. I haven't freed up enough space on my main computer to copy my other HD's worth of songs onto this one yet. I also have yet to finish downloading a lot of what I want to get. Luckily, even if I don't have what you want, I'm pretty good at science and figuring out a way to get it on the fly.

I won't have my standard partner in crime with me, so I'll be training a couple noobies to the team, but things will work.

Any particular songs? I can try to grab general discography's but they take up a lot of space and can sometimes take a lot of time to find/get.

First and foremost, a big thank you to everyone who came out to sing. It was a pretty great show overall and I hope you enjoyed it as well. People really picked up on the format, did well with it, and everyone seemed to have a good time overall.
