Wouldn't it be wonderful if ACEN could put together some mini physical challenges Ninja Warrior style for participants to try?

Alas, I don't know where we'd put them.

...And I think our insurers would come after us with shotguns.

ACEN Ninja Warrior? Yer better off using Takeshi's Castle for obstacle ideas. Y'gotta consider injury risks and liabilities. Plus, setup won't be cheap.

Didn't they try that a few years back with the balcony jumps? Oh wait, that was just a bunch of idiots pretending to be ninjas <_<

That would require a lot of space, even a Wipe Out Version. How about some simple obstacle path that we can all do? Walking in a straight line while balancing a book on one's head is a challenge for anyone while weaving in and out between cones.

As a freerunner/parkour person, I can guarantee you ACen doesn't have the money to carry the type of insurance required.

It's kind of a good idea.
But, I doubt there would be any room.
Gah.

Come on people, think creatively! Something as simple as a portable bouldering/rock climbing wall would work, the shorter ones can be put up just about anywhere and people would have to sign a liability waiver. I've worked several places that have done this kind of thing without it being cost prohibitive. There's got to be other ideas too that would work if scaled down to the ACEN venue. Like Sumo suit wrestling, or a football style obstacle course...

This could be interesting to consider for a future year. (I just don't see this happening this year, because there isn't time to investigate the option, we've mostly spent our budgets, and there isn't space to allocate.)

This late in the convention year, it is nearly impossible to add any more programming to our schedule. All of our space is completely used. You can post your suggestion next year, in August-September is best for planning.

Sorry I forgot to add the part where this was a suggestion for next year  ...I realize this wouldn't happen for this year because of how late it is. I was mostly concerned with writing in my idea before it vanished into the black hole that is my memory. Btw, I was just watching an episode of Ninja Warrior where the participant actually built himself a training facility in a closet! If he can do that, surely there is a way to make this doable for ACEN in the future. Food for thought

My only concern would be, even if you sign a waver couldn't there still be a suit to the convention center for allowing the event to take place?

Probably. Even if you sign a wavier saying you won't sue, you might still be able to file a suit, even if you'll lose, and that does mean legal costs.

Interesting idea, definitely. I've loved the show since day one.
I have to agree, though. Space is definitely an issue as well as liability. Also, digging giant water pits isn't something I think Rosemont would enjoy. :P Although I think a less dangerous version would be the way to go if this were a serious idea. No ridiculous heights, balcony jumps, things like that.

If it were somehow miraculously brought into existence at ACen at a later year, I would absolutely participate!

My boyfriend and I were talking about this jokingly.I'm going to have to say no.No.And probably no some more.
Too many injuries bound to happen. Let's be honest...most convention kids are NOT athletes.

agree, ninja warrior is very hard, and you must be physical fit, i seen fat people on the show, but most of them are sumo, and always fail right out the gate if it some jumping obstacle.

Takeshi's Castle is the show i assume is where MXC get their fottage from, that show seems more safe to do as a normal guy then ninja warroir, ninja warrior people train for years.
