so i was wondering at one of these acens if there could be like a Japanese tea ceremony where pplz could go to and learn how to m grind your own tea and stuff. i think that a tea party thing like that would be fun to go to. does anyone else think the same?

As much fun as that sounds, I don't think it'd be allowed due to contracts A-Cen have with the convention center and hotel about selling and serving food at the con.

If it was a panel sort of thing maybe?

That sounds so cool :D

heheh...This episode of pokemon comes to mind when you mention the tea ceremony. ^_^

I don't think you're allowed to distribute food/drinks though :/ I might be wrong though. I think it would work for a panel though....? :3

A panel might work, but as an educational panel with maybe sampling of different teas? That is a possibility.

A long long time ago, when ACen had the ConSuite, they did to a Tea Ceremony. It was a demonstration and the room was Standing Room Only. It was a wonderful treat to watch sand very culturally educational. I'd love to see it again.

I agree, the opportunity to witness a tea ceremony doesn't come along every day and I'd be excited to see one :)

For anyone in Michigan (or close enough to visit) there is a Japanese tea house in Saginaw that has a traditional tea ceremony once a month. It was very interesting and informative and I highly recommend stopping by. The price was a small (under 10) donation to keep the place going and includes a cup of tea and some biscuits/red bean jellies.

So do a google search, you might find there's something local like this near you too that you never knew about!

I personally would really like to get it done, and there are ways to work with the hotel to allow it. I do think it would be greatly informative. Let me mull this one over for 2013... I'm almost thinking something along the lines of what a tea club would do at a high school culture festival in Japan. I'll start something in the GR forums after this con to talk about it.

For those in the Champaign-Urbana area:

There is actually a place on the University of Illinois Campus that does tea ceremonies. You will actually be seated and take part in the tea ceremony. I know the woman who used to conduct them, though she's since retired now. They still have them. The name of the Venue is called the Japan House.

AH I know of a woman that does it in goshen indiana, shie otani and yoshiko green, they always come down to fort wayne for the cherry blossom festival, and I have been trying to get them to come to ikasucon for years, as well as other people into japanese things in the fort wayne area, we have a few more this year at ikasucon which starts today by the way but I am always trying to get more.

I would love it, or more on bonsai tree trimming its neat to learn.

I'm not sure if that violates ACen's no food distribution policy but that sounds fun!
