Since it's inception in 2008, The Video Game Orchestra (VGO) has become recognized around the world as one of the finest and most creative performing groups based in the video game industry by both peers, fans and founding fathers of the genre. It is with the energetic fusion of classical and contemporary influences that the orchestra founded in Boston has captivated not only the hearts of the local fans, but across all corners of the world.

Founded by Japanese born composer/guitarist Shota Nakama, VGO came to be from his greatest passions in life, live performance and video games, and the belief that their worlds could not only be combined, but that new life could be brought to the endearing classics that fans for years have heard in the background of their favorite video games. VGO became compromised by a group of the very greatest of Boston based musicians, both young and established talents alike, as well as talents from around the world. VGO did not limit itself to being a strictly orchestra and choir, uniquely integrating a rock band ensemble into their group to bring true innovation to their multi-cultural sound-scape, and ensuring the most diverse takes on many classics of video game music.

With the strength of an orchestra, a simple song of what would be widely perceived as simple sounds and noise could suddenly become an expressive movement of emotional power and gripping elegance. With the rock band, the catchy melodic themes of action and adventure could suddenly become aggressive marches and filled with intensity. The wide array of styles, the diversity of the arrangements and the incredible talent of the performers would not only bring tears to the eyes of those familiar with the source materials, but also bring in a new wave of both old and new fans, led in by the newly discovered depth in the field of video game music as showcased by the orchestra.

VGO's great acclaim and accomplishments have only continued to grow from then and till today. After attending many events such as Anime Boston, where they performed with the legendary composer, Nobuo Uematsu, and PAX East, VGO reached another milestone by performing at the Boston Symphony Hall which marked the very first time that video game music would be in the forefront in the highly regarded venue. The show was an incredible success, selling out all tickets, and attended by music industry legend, Alan Silvestri, and won their praise on the historical night as the Video Game Orchestra truly showcased video game music, and established themselves as a proven commodity.

Now 2012 marks another monumental event as on March 10th, VGO will be the official orchestra for the Distant Worlds concert series as it arrives in Boston. Distant Worlds ~Music from Final Fantasy~ is a world traveling concert series based on the works of Nobuo Uematsu, and its success and reception has been unmatched. The strong character themes, beautiful atmospheric symphonies and culturally diverse influences makes Final Fantasy a perfect fit for the Video Game Orchestra, and with Distant Worlds, the orchestra founded in Boston will finally showcase their reach out into the world, and with them is the support of the fans, the peers and the video game industry.

We're hoping to do 2 performances with VGO. One on Saturday in the Rosemont Ballroom, and one on Sunday in the Grand Ballroom. It should work out.
