I'm living in Texas now, and while I'm still flying up for Anime Central, is anyone coming to A-Kon this year in Dallas, or has been previously?

I actually live in Dallas. I've been going to a-kon for many years. :] I usually am hanging out running apples to apples on the second floor of the hotel near the skybridge.

oh, awesome! I haven't been to A-kon before. I will be getting that set up... moderately soon. Any clues as to hotels, or the like? I will have a car.

The main hotel is the Sheraton with the Marriott being the overflow hotel. You can go to this page to get the special reservation link for the hotel. A room is about 390 and change for the weekend, including taxes however I would call them once you make a reservation and request being put in north or south tower as you do not want center. However, parking is another story. Parking at the hotel is 21$ a day with no in/out or valet at 24$ but that goes rather quickly as does hotel parking. There are other parking options in downtown dallas as well but they're all pretty pricey. As you live in Austin the DART rail is unfortunately not an option for you as well.

The con is set up fairly simple though. There's the first floor of the hotel where usually their j-pop room is and related stuff like karaoke and the like. Then you have the second floor where things like the video programming is, panels, tabletop gaming, etc. There's a skybridge that links the hotel and convention center on the second floor of the hotel as well. The first floor of the convention area is where main programming tends to be, the AA is and is the general hangout spot of the convention and cosplayers due to the size and openness of it. The second floor of the CC is where you'll find the dealers hall, industry booths, etc. The third floor is where video games are, and panels if I remember correctly.

Elevators are a nightmare, and the hotel tends to turn off the escalators so expect to do a lot of walking and climbing up and down escalators.

Thank you so much for the information. I snagged a King in the North Tower (they just upgraded that tower apparently) for the con rate. I really appreciate your help. I'll be coming in on Thursday and leaving Sunday, just like I do for ACen.

I'll be a guest at A-Kon for the first time this summer, and I'm really looking forward to the show. The attendees at acen have been wonderful to me through the years, I can't wait to see what Dallas is like!
