And just because I'm so proud of myself for finally finishing it, I have pictures of one of the major parts of my steampunk outfit: http://bradscc.devia...gocle-283969998

Thank you. It took me MONTHS to engineer, but in the end I feel it was worth it (mostly because if I don't, then I'll have to admit to myself that I was wasting that time).

I'm sort of torn on what I want to wear. If I thought I could procure a tophat in time I'd totally be rocking that but I don't think I'll be able to find one. I'm actually pretty out of the loop in the anime scene (the last show I've watched was Lucky Star, but my favorite shows are all from the mid to late 90's!) and terrible at sewing, but I still want to do something special for the convention days.

If you're willing to make it yourself, I know both Michaels and Hobby Lobby sell mask blanks. Other than that I'd check to see if you have any costume or party stores near you. Mardi Gras is coming up this month so they might have more in stock than usual.

Our - mine and my sis' - current plan is to do Jacuzzi and Nice from Baccano! on Friday and male and female Ranma on Saturday. Sunday I'll be cosplaying alone, and it's between Van from Chrono Cross, Loki from Mythical Detective Loki, and Prince Alexander from King's Quest VI. I should actually be nice and comfy all weekend for once, lol. It's just not a con if I'm not cosplaying!
Friday: Jacuzzi, Baccano! (sis: Nice)
Saturday: Male Ranma, Ranma 1/2 (sis: Female Ranma)
So glad to be back in the Alley! ^_^

Friday or Saturday, the three of us at my table will be the Ember Island Players versions of Katara, Sokka, and Ang from Avatar:TLA.
The other day, we'll be matching our regular cosplay group as the Grand Galloping Gala versions of Princess Celestia and Rarity (the rest of the group will have Twilight, Pinkie Pie, and... someone else, since the last person hasn't decided yet) from My Little Pony: FiM.
Sunday is always regular clothes day.

I do also have a complete Motoko Kusanagi outfit, but I'd have to dye my hair purple again... and I gained a little weight so idk if I want to show off my love handles. n_n;
ALSO I have glasses now, so I'd have to get contacts for my cosplay. :/

It does have some weight to it, but with three straps holding it on, it's dispersed very evenly (though I do still have some minor adjustments to make). It also helps having extra padding around the goggle portion.

Depending on how dark your hair is, you can do a temporary dye with kool-aid (mixed without the sugar, of course). Just lay back and let your hair soak in a bowl of it, and it washes out at the end of the day. Also, a corset will work wonders to hide anything you don't have time to get rid of the hard way. I found instructions a while ago for making the pattern for a custom fitted one that would probably work well for fitting under a cosplay if you used the right material (I'm hoping to make one myself soon to test if it's viable for making one out of chainmail). If you're interested, let me know and I can send you the link.

My hair is dark brown, so no way would that work. I decided to bleach and dye my hair purple last year and it looked fabulous(sometimes looked more blue than purple though with the lighting), but it requires a lot of up keep. As for the corset, I own a few but it wouldn't work for the outfit I have. Here's a bad example, but basically the sides are open and expose the area I would want to hide.

Oh! Are you wearing her on Sunday? If so, I'll totally just bring Van then! Always great to get pics with fellow Chrono Cross cosplayers.

My sis always does that on Sun - just wears a random hat, maybe a wig, and a colorful t-shirt. An elephant hat sounds amazing!

Ahhh, not surprising about Pantyhose - he doesn't show up until season 6 in the anime and somewhere in the late teens in the manga, but I'd highly recommend reading his first manga appearance. One of my favorite Ranma 1/2 stories! (Too bad they leave half of it out of the anime...)

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The attention and constant photos of the public
Or to allow the work to stand with no embellishments
And by not dressing up, be normal. To sit, to draw--
No more--and by simply working at the table to say we are artists
The attention, and the thousand photographs
That costumes bring to the table. 'Tis a draw
Devoutly to be wished. To sit, to draw--
To do commissions--perchance in peace: ay, there's the rub,
For in that time of creativity, what ideas may come
When we have closed our booths for the day,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
For the artistic self we crave.
For who would bear the pen and ink in creation,
Th' plagiarizer's wrong, the true artistic vision
The pangs of writer's block, the inkers effort,
The insolent ignorant fanboys, and the spurns
That artists receive of those who would judge our craft,
When he himself might his make his comics
With lesser skill? Who would seek the attention,
To grunt and sweat under a sewing machine,
But that the dread of a blocked table,
The undiscovered talent, from whose bourn
No artist returns, puzzles the character,
And makes us rather bear those creations we made
Than fly to cosplay as something that exists not on our table?
Thus fandom doth make us stop and think,
And thus the native culture of the convention
Is contemplated o'er with the the idea of cosplay,
And enterprise of needle and thread
With this regard their actions turn to sewing
And lose the name of a professional. -- Soft you now,
Fair character! -- Naruto, in thy versions
Be all my sins remembered.

What table are you going to be at? Are you in Artist's Alley or the vendor area?

Not sure how much I'll wear it myself at the con, but I will have it with me. I'm considering letting other people try it on to get their picture taken in it for a very small fee (just to help cover the costs of it and for my time to take and send the image).
