I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on what kind of material I should use for the jacket. Thanks!

Either a twill, heavy poplin, or actually a canvas would work well.
I made this outfit last year, and it has 3 layers: Poplin (top), Canvas (interlining), and Quilters Cotton (actual lining). Makes it super comfy! (and heavy enough that it doesn't wrinkle like crazy either)

That sounds so complicated >.<. I have no experience with sewing. There seems to be so much more to it than I thought. Do you do commissions?
I do, but currently I am full up until March.
(I have two projects coming up I'm working on and a masq competition piece, and I still work full-time)
I don't think I'd be able to get it done in time for ACEN for you (with only the 1 month between my first con, and ACEN). :( I run an artist's alley booth, and I need time to create more stock as well.
If you are interested in having it for later after ACEN, I can pass you my information if you'd like. Here's examples of the one I made for myself: Vyse Cosplay
I should still have the mold I used for the lenspatch floating around too. :)
