Alright so here's my story I was looking all over facebook on groups that are about my little pony friendship is magic. And I joined the midwest brony division. They wanted to start up their own Bronycon, but the problem is... We have very little experience when it comes to running a con nor can we even decide on a name for it. I think we came up with so far is a Equestricon, Whinny city, Midwest Bronyfest, Widwestria, Caponycon, Chicago Brony Con, Canterlot comes to chicago. Although we aren't sure we can agree upon any of these names.

I was going to say that "Bronycon Chicago" would be fine, but then I read the list. I think Midwest Bronyfest is a really catchy, easy to remember name. Go with that.

maybe... i don't think the name is the only thing we are stuck on trying to figure out too... we also need to figure out the expenses that go into running a con.

I think Equestricon or Midwestria would be fun. I don't think it should be labeled as a brony con because there are many MLP fans that aren't men, unless this con is going to be focused on bronys. As long as you guys accept those of us who like all the generations or like other generations more than G4, then I wouldn't mind going.

Also, Midwest Bronyfest is too close to Midwest Furfest so I wouldn't do that.

We accept the older generations as well not just G4. I do agree though if it had brony in the name it might only reach out to the male fans and not gain the female fans attention. It is kindof debatable though since there is a New york Bronycon that has gathered several thousand attendance of male and female fans. Is there actually a name for the female fan base of MLP. Because I'm almost under the impression the term brony is used loosely. Some people tell me brony can be used for male and female. But if the females fans may be called pegasisters.

Pegasisters are what female fans are called, but while brony may be used loosely, most probably refer to males as a brony (bro-pony). If someone said brony, I'm sure most would think of guys. Especially since this generation has mostly male fans. I totally get that BroNYcon gets thousands of male and female attendees, but I think it was geared more toward males. Hence why it is called BroNYcon. But hey, this is all just an opinion. I think a gender neutral name would be perfect. Even if it has brony in the name, I'm sure females would come too, but I think a gender neutral would be much more fitting for a con that is all about MLP and not just G4. Definitely happy to hear that you guys are accepting of all the generations.

You're right, a gender neutral name would be preferable. And it would help narrow down the list of names we came up with.

If you're serious about starting a fan convention for MLP fans, then don't worry about a name just yet. Find some people who have organized first-year conventions, and talk with them first. You will definitely benefit from learning what it takes to get a con off the ground!

I did a few web searches, trying to find useful articles on how to start up a fan convention. Here's a series of articles that may help you: http://www.trhonline...?howtostartacon

Pegasister is a terrible name. Nothing with that many syllables is catchy.

A LOT.

I'd suggest joining staff of a convention and working one to really start to get an idea of running one. I'm on my fourth year staffing Acen and I still feel like I wouldn't know all there is to know when starting a con from the ground up. I know we still have staffing slots open, and still have a few all-staff meetings left before con. Those extremely valuable learning tools - it lets you see just what is going on in the preparation stages.

But honestly, coming from a veteran staffer, don't try and start a con without getting some experience working one (doesn't have to be Acen - C2E2 is coming up as well, along with plenty of other cons). You really don't realize just how little attendees know about what goes on behind the scenes until you're there, in the trenches, helping put out con fires. (and likewise you don't really appreciate the attendee experience until you've staffed a con and then go to one where you just get to relax & be an attendee!)

There's still alot my organization is trying to sort out. Such as setting up a registration server for the website, trying to handle copyright matters with Hasbro, assigning everyone their positions for each job to take on. Although we finally decided on our name and its Midwestria now.

I really like Midwestria. It rolls of the tongue nicely.

Also, I'm female and I prefer being called a brony.
I think pegasister is a stupid name.

Location can't be announced yet as the contract is still in the final stages of negotiation. However, I have it on good authority that things should be finalized soon. Also, you'll be able to reach the location on the Metra as long as you don't mind a short (free)shuttle ride to the hotel.

This is the MLP con for the Midwest so I think Midwestria fits best. This is just my opinion though. :) Sorry to hear you don't really like it.

Once the contract is signed we will give as much info as we can. We are very excited to bring this convention to everyone.
