Hi folks!

This year we bring you an interesting take on the history, culture & legends you find every day in Japanese animation & media.

Ever wondered what's with all the giant robots/monsters/things destroying cities & the world as we know it? Ever wonder what's the big deal with shrines or not sticking your chopsticks up in rice, or what's going on when some guy has 6 arms and nobody's so much as batting an eyelash at him? Ever just look at your screen and go "......huh?"

Well then, come check us out! You won't be disappointed! Feel free to ask anything in the Q&A (or after panel ^^) & don't forget to join us for some fun & a chance for prizes! :3

Below the Spoiler tag you will find an outline of our panel. (*subject to slight tweaking, should need arise*) While we know that we could not possibly manage to address every bit of Japanese culture, mythos, and series in a single panel's time, we will give our best to give a solid introduction and covering to the subject & subjects covered. We look forward to seeing you there!~

Heya! This panel sounds great!! I definitely want to try to attend! I've been doing a panel on folklore and mythology in anime for 2 years at Acen now. It looks like there may be some overlap in material but you've got a definite different focus. Mine will focus mainly on the legends like the youkai, and some of the old stories and I'll be adding material this year.
If I may suggest more material that I have had to decline covering in spite of several people asking for it, people want to know more about the warring ninja clans in Japanese history and the ronin and samurai.

Thanks to the spoiler I want to learn more or in case attend. You over a lot and it also relates to one another in some way. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a pop quiz thrown in there. ;)

First off, sorry for the delay in answering (been sick ><), and thanks for the interest in our panel! :D Always glad to encounter others who enjoy the background in stories and culture, or who want to learn/know more about it! :3

Our panel was actually (supposed to be?) a submission for one of the requested panels from this thread ( > "Japanese legend/mythology and culture and how it gets worked in to anime/manga stories" .... yeah, we opted for a simpler, less long name lol.), so we're splitting focus between the legends, beliefs, and historical/modern culture, then focusing on how they're seen in media (above outlined series being focal points; been toying around with the idea of adding a small subsection for music influencing and being influenced culturally). The outline above is actually a very abbreviated version so as to not null the point of attending the panel lol. (When I went to print the original full-detailed outline up, it was pushing 4 pages single-spaced in 8-10pt font ... 8D; .) There's a LOT to be talked about (as for overlap concerns, I'll shoot you a PM~ ^^d) & I hope it goes great. :3

If that's the case, no worries lol. The panelist talking ninja/samurai/martial arts will have no problem there -- it's sort of his area of expertise (and demonstrating skills, lmao). ^^d

Hey guys! A fun and exciting heads up to all those who've expressed interest in this panel here! :D

My co-panelists and I are looking at tweaking the anime/media list a little bit. Some series/topics will be shortened or kept very brief in light of panels/similar topics being had, but in those time places we're considering either briefly touching on a couple other great ones, or leaving more time for discussion, questions, and feedback. (Series being considered for this slot in time, among others, include such series as Welcome To The NHK, Hetalia, Tenchi Muyo!, Lucky Star, et al.)

What do you guys think? Would you rather have more series covered and discussed, or more open-ended time?

Please, let us know! Any and all feedback is more than welcome!~

I hope to the daedras that I can attend your panel, the way you type fascinates me and your plans and organization skills are outstanding, mainly so the way you typed in the "considering this your last acen thread", so do not be afraid that a Celty comes up and shakes your hand or something to that matter. But I hope that nothing else interferes with your panel.

Lol, don't worry - there's no way we're canceling/not doing this thing, even if one of us had to be dragged in on a gurney with IVs and all the jazz (charming image, amiright?). At the end of the panel we're having open time to discuss and all that fun, so once we wrap up and start cleanup when folk start clearing out, you're welcome to hang back and chat with us (and maybe be asked to help us hold a cable or something while we hurry to un-set-up in time lol). ^^d
-----

For a few months here we've been looking at participation/raffle prizes, though nothing like OMG $80 FIGMA YESSSS stuff, because we are broke-arse collegiates with little money lol.

So far, ideas bounced around have included stuff like:
- Origami instruction set with pretty papers
- a small tea set, either sans tea or with a voucher for it to be gotten at a later time (since we cannot actually give away any tea with the set, or any consumables per ACen's contract)
- a really cool Super Mario related thing currently sitting on my desk
- the /nice/ kind of chopsticks that you'd rewash & reuse, not throw away after dirty
- possibly a DVD from one of the series we discuss, or relevant merch
- things people reading this thread suggest

What would you think or suggest there? *3 month long crickets blaring* ....Anyone? We're all ears on this, really. We'd like to have giveaways that excite, not bore our crowd.~ :3

Hey y'all! Last minute updates and info here.

~~ Panel schedule ~~
Date: Saturday, April 28
Time: 11:15am - 1:15pm
Where: DoubleTree -- Signature 2-3

~ Prizes ~
We were a little short-funded this year (exchange rate is brutal & work is scarce), so (unfortunately) prizes will be small, but several, and hopefully be thought of a nice token. How to get them will be explained in the panel, though let me just say that paying attention and making connections will be rewarded.~

~ Topics ~
Due to time concerns and many of our topics haveing panels this year, we've decided to adjust some of the subjects we cover in terms of depth and broadness/narrowness. Some sections have been expanded a little more to cover wholes rather than parts, whereas others were abbreviated to highlight the focus and reference the broader subject (& schedules dependent, recommend checking out panel xyz relevant to that topic). Hopefully this will create a smoother presentation and leave a little more time at the end for discussion and questions etc. Hope everyone enjoys the improvements!

Questions? Concerns? Comments? Post 'em!

Hope to see y'all there bright and early Saturday morning!~

Greetings fellow earthlings!

The time has come for panel feedback! Please post any thoughts, concerns, questions, gripes, props, things you want to find out, things you want fixed, or general wonderings here, and we'll I'll try to address and answer everything as best I can. Let us know what you liked, what you hated, what you thought was good, or bad, or just straight up ugly, weird, or somehow just plain off. Ask us anything you wonder(ed) and I will answer to the best of my knowledge and wit, and I can relay specific questions to my other panelists if need be.

Thanks to everyone who attended; we hope to see you again sometime!
