I am once again hoping to run my anime detectives panel this year at ACEN. It actually had a really strong turn out this year, and this year I am trying to make it even better. for anyone who was not able to make it to the panel last year or is wondering what changes I have planed for this year here is a short outline
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and how he created the great detective archatype, what the archaype is, and a little bit on how he hated sherlock.
the origins of japanese detective fiction and how edogawa rampo created the first japanese detective, kogoro akechi.
then about how detective conan uses influences of kogoro akechi to flip conan doyles great detective archatype.
then on to other examples of anime detectives and how they are influenced by literary detectives, this list currently includes
hajime kindaichi (kindaichi case files),victorique & alice (gosick and God's notebook/kami-sama no memo-chou), Kyu (tantei gakuen Q), shinjiro (ango/ungo), L (deathnote),Ayumu (spiral), battler (umineko)

I also plan on starting the pannel with a locked room murder case scenario, and for every question/answer someone gives they get a clue to the case, and the person who solves the case first gets a case closed dvd with three episodes on it.

I was hoping to get some feedback from last year or maybe get suggestions for even more detectives. I already am trying to work on a video for of all the detectives I am talking about, and also a thing on the detectives source of knowledge and the different quirks each detective has.

Eh, ever read the Zaregoto books? The second one especially draws up connections between detective influences.

How did I miss this thread until now? Anyways, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your panel last year and I'm quite excited to see this year's panel. I'm definitely looking forward to the locked room murder case. It sounds like a lot of fun.
