Anime Central is proud to present the Crystal Ball. The Crystal Ball is a formal dance event to take place on Friday April 27th, 2012 at the Embassy Suites. The event will begin at 7:00 pm and end at 11:00 pm*. Ticket price includes entry to the ball, music and dancing, light snacks, and a cash bar.

Guidelines:

1. Tickets are $25 per person attending the Crystal Ball. Tickets are purchased through our online event system. Valid methods of payment: Credit (Visa, Master, or Discover), Check, or Money Order payable to: Midwest Animation Promotion Society.
2. Participants in the Crystal Ball must be registered attendees of Anime Central at the time of the ball.
3. Each Participant will need their badge and their ticket to enter the Crystal Ball.
4. For an additional $2 dollars your ticket can be mailed to you before the convention. For tickets being held for pick up at con, they can be retrieved from the panel programing office with a valid ID and Anime Central Badge.
5. Attendance is limited for this event, and tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Ticket sales will close when all open spaces have been filled.
6. This is a formal dance and appropriate attire is required. Relaxed formal is required. If you have specific attire questions, email crystalball@acen.org, or ask on the forums.

Females:

• Dresses must be knee length or longer.
  
• Large accessories such as weapons or large wings are not permitted.
  
• Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, torn clothing etc. are not considered formal attire.
  
• Dress pants are acceptable with a formal top.
  
• Cosplay and Crossplay are acceptable if appropriately formal.
  
• Military Dress and formal kimono are considered formal attire.

Males:

• Long dress pants, khakis, or linen pants are required (cargo pocketed khakis are not acceptable).
  
• A button up shirt with long sleeves is required.
  
• Military Dress and formal kimono are considered formal attire
  
• Cosplay and Crossplay are acceptable if appropriately formal.
  
• Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, torn clothing etc. are not considered formal attire.
  
• Large accessories such as weapons or large wings are not permitted.

7. There will be no coat check provided. Do not bring large props or other items that cannot be contained on your person. Purses are allowed within the dance.
8. The dress code is strictly enforced and may be reviewed by the event’s manager and assistants. If guests attire is not appropriate they may be denied entry into the ball until it is corrected.

Would I be allowed to wear a normal Luchadore Mask or would I have to make a more "Formal" looking one, if I can wear one at all that is, and how formal is this Ball? I have been going to ACEN for a couple years and really never been to any of the Balls and would like to know what kind of atmosphere and dancing,if any, I can expect.

Sounds like fun and I'm pretty excited to attend! As much as I usually hate to dress up, an occasional formal is my time to have some fun

I know you stated that registration details will be posted at a later date, but I have a few questions:
-What's the approx. capacity you guys are looking at? This is more for curiosity than anything.
-Will any amount of the admission price be donated to charity? We were talking about the Crystal Ball over on fb and that question came up, and a few people (including myself) said that proceeds being donated to a charity would help to justify the ticket price.

We are looking at 450-500 tickets depending on what the event space says when they look at the room layout we want.

No, we stopped doing charity donations because of the large fee Illinois charges, it is better if attendees donate straight to an official charity group so all of the money goes to good use. The price is to cover the event space, catering, music, decorations, etc.

As for a Luchadore Mask I would say no at the moment but that can change if you send us a picture of a more "formal" looking one that you will be wearing at CrystalBall@ACen.org . This is a semi formal event, think prom-like but you don't have to wear a suit jacket and there will be more 20 somethings attending than teens. There will be a bar area, table seating, and dance floor. Along with a photo area, and the music will be more a mix of modern, a few fun classics, and anime songs we all know and love This is not a mini soap bubble in any way at all.

Are you doing online sales only or do you plan on having sales during Friday as well? If you plan on having sales on and offline, will you allocate a number of each to both online and at con? If it is not being done offline, what about those who typically do not even register online for the con?

Are these tickets or can these tickets be mailed along with individual badges? Perhaps those who purchase ahead of time (before badge printing/mailing) can have a slightly different badge instead of just having a separate ticket. Maybe a little more incentive, although I don't know how much, for plunking down $25/$27 additional.

Thank you very much for answering my questions and will make sure to send a pic of a "Formal" mask as soon as i can get my hands on on, or if i can make one lol. Being 20 something myself, its good to hear there will be more of my age group at an event this time around

Typically the event sells out way before con, so we wont be selling tickets at con. You can purchase your ticket now and buy your badge at con, for example if you are buying a Friday badge you can pre order your ball ticket. Both badges and tickets will be checked for entry into the ball. So you just have to have your badge by the time the ball starts. These wont be mailed with Badges, they will be done in a separate wave of mailing.

Duct tape dress - Looking at the picture it does look formal (and pretty). Please try to avoid using all silver duct tape, and please please please make sure it isn't going to fall apart. You're allowed to bring in a purse so I suggest bringing emergency duct tape in case of malfunctions. Also consider how comfortable it will be. It doesn't breath and you'll be dancing and around 499 other people so you may get hot.

At the moment we do not have a release date, it's depending on things in our event system. But we are aiming for as soon as possible. There will be announcements made when it happens.

FINALLY - someone else that has rocked the duct tape! My ex and I made Alice/Mad Hatter duct tape outfits for my senior prom waaaaaaay back in the day. Bloo's right though - it does get very hot while dancing around a large number of people. If it's allowed in the Ball, I highly recommend bringing a single-use ice pack or two to cool down.

Duct tape is so much fun! xD I wish I did it for prom so I could have entered the whole "stuck at prom" thing, but oh well xD And the ice pack is a great idea, I'll keep that in mind.
