The IT department is tasked with the upkeep, maintenance and supervision of all of Anime Central's servers, machines and network. The IT department also oversees the successful implementation of the network at the convention center and hotel. The IT department is considered an all-year around department and as such, does not exactly have a "post-con", only pre-con and at-con periods, as maintenance, additions and subtracts from the website and forums also fall under the IT department's responsibility and happen year around. Staff working with the IT department must be available for some meetings year around, as well as the planning/setup of the at-con network for the months leading up to the convention.
* Please note that all staff are expected to work a minimum of 24 hours at con. While we let you off to your events when they happen, this is a requirement. I.T. generally starts setup Wednesday night or Thursday morning of the con weekend, and tear down happens from ~12pm and we generally finish around 5pm on Sunday evening. Staff of the IT department have no issues with fulfilling our hour requirements simply because we are available from pretty much dawn until late night.
Required skills:
* General knowledge of a computer is necessary (hard drive from the CD-ROM from the RAM)
* Experience with general Linux (Ubuntu specifically), Apache, MySQL, PHP is preferred.
* General knowledge of basic network structure is preferred. (WAN from LAN, Router vs. Switch, etc)
Desired skills (but not necessary):
* Experience with LDAP/Active Directory is a plus
* Experience with advanced networking is a plus (VPN Tunnels, DHCP, DNS, cisco certs)
Staff must also be able to:
* Lift up-to 40-50 lbs unassisted.
* Stand for long periods of time (sitting for long periods of time can also happen)
* Walk long distances during the convention
* Be available for a meeting every month or 2 (could be a live dinner/office meeting or a meeting over skype/IM)
* Be available for setup of the at-con network prior to the convention.
* Bend and stand several times during the convention.
Prospective applicants should fill out the following form: https://spreadsheets...i01b3c6MA#gid=0 and our fearless leader, Dave E., will contact you to arrange a possible interview or ask for more info.
When the forms asks you for the department, select 'Other' and fill out IT in the box (if you have any other departments you might be interested in working in make sure you mark those too. If you're still interested in staffing but not the exact fit for IT, there are more than one department you can assist ACen with!).
Thanks!
