Well, I'd say go with both eventually and they are both excellent titles. Though I do find Dark Souls a bit more brutal.

Seconding this. They're both excellent. If you want the best Dark Souls experience, I would recommend getting it ASAP, because it's more active now than it ever will be, and you'll be more in the dark (no pun intended) in terms of being surprised by traps or epic bosses than you will be if you happen to wander into a spoileriffic thread.
Demon's Souls, however, is still a wonderful game, and while I do love the morose world of Dark Souls, there's still a certain "feel" to Demon's Souls' morose, bleak, and broken world. (Dark Souls' world looks more "alive" despite the undead themes. Not necessarily a bad thing, lush environments are LUSH.) It's also only $20, and while it may not be quite as active now (due to people migrating over to Dark Souls), I'd still recommend it if you want a good taste of what's in store for you in its spiritual successor.
Bear in mind that neither of the games will hold your hand, at all, and Dark Souls is the harder of the two. If you're interested in Dark Souls, check out the Gamestops in your area on Friday. If nobody has picked up their Dark Souls preorder yet, you should be able to buy the Collector's Edition for the same $60. I'd recommend playing through both of them at some point in your lifetime. If you play Dark Souls first, Demon's Souls should be a cakewalk. ...Never thought I'd use the word "cakewalk" in the same sentence as "Demon's Souls"...

The thing is, I completely agree that Demon's Souls will feel easier.
Dark Souls is so much more wide open; you're kind of left wandering around and figuring out your path on your own. Whereas with Demons, it was a bit more linear. This alone for me makes it quite a bit more difficult.
I only just got past the Taurus Demon and that was because the fool fell off the edge. Think I might grind a little bit at the bridge o' flames.
Started initially with a warrior but have been running a thief for the most part.

I'm sure that sentence ends "died." and i'm pretty sure that that same ending will follow many times in the future.

"took a breath of fresh air and ..."
I'm getting it tonight.

Enjoying the game so far. I do kinda agree with liking the feel of Demon's Souls a bit more right now, but I'm certainly not disliking Dark Souls. There are a couple changed elements I don't necessarily agree with, namely things like how you seem to be able to carry an infinite amount of items now and I haven't found a storage guy yet, but its not a huge deal. I mostly enjoyed the storage, first, because it made the game feel more real that carrying capacity was just a thing you had to deal with and 2, I don't have to scroll so much in my inventory screen when I want to find something.

I rerolled again recently and am running with the pyromancer as well. The undead burg makes for a nice little grind spot once you kindle the bonfire.
After that, I should be able to nuke the Taurus demon and go after the dragon's tail.
Did anyone already beat Halek the Rock? Also, what gift did you start with. I had to start with the Master Key. Was there any other choice?

Apparently from what I've read, the master key is the only gift you can't find in the game world though.

Oh, that's hardcore, alright. He learned just hardcore it was. Went through the fog door to meet the Asylum Demon, tried to turn around (as a joke), and almost immediately found himself getting smashed into the ground twenty feet below.
That was just within the first twenty minutes.
He then got to learn just how mean the ghosts and skeletons are. Finally, he figured out how to avoid them...though it took a few extra deaths for him to do that.
Later on, against the Taurus Demon (albeit on the third shot against him), he decided to try a new tactic against him. He tried lobbing potshots at the demon from way up top on the entrance tower. The look of shock on his face when he saw WHEEEE TAURUS CAN JUMP was absolutely priceless...he tried getting away, but wasn't quite fast enough. It took him another three or so tries to beat him after that.
Fast forward another few hours, he's having the time of his life (by that I mean just about ready to try breaking the controller in frustration) because certain rats keep poisoning him, and he's trying to make his way toward that big red dragon. Finally, he tosses down the controller, and says: "&%@# this, I'm gonna play some Deus Ex for a while - at least that's something I CAN play."
Of course, now that he's finished that game, he doesn't have much choice but to come back to Dark Souls :3

Thank god for my Theive's Knife. Upgraded it to +5 and I get some awesome backstab and randomly some really sweet critical hit damage.
Oh, i also came across some giant, initially dead/sleeping looking, dragon chillin' on a cliff. Ofcourse he has items between his claws you want to get...
he doesnt mind when you get the 1st one...but the second one, he wakes up and swipes you dead. Then when you go back by him, he pukes up purple poison crap on the floor...or if you try to run by, he might get you with his wing and pull you off the cliff. -sigh-
OH! cant forget the random Hydra creature in the distance of one of the forests that sprays crazy water beams at you and kills anything in its path....-double sigh-
such a good game.

1) I want to get a malamute (or a husky, at the very least) and name it Sif.
2) Sif is quite possibly the most awesome boss EVER. He's a freaking WOLF that carries a freaking GIANT SWORD in his freaking MOUTH.
3) That battle made us feel horrible. Once we saw him limping and struggling to move without falling (and then having to get back up), Malkozaine actually started wondering aloud if there was any way to simply let the poor wolf live. Apparently not, though. And then it occurred to us that Sif, thus far, has been the ONLY boss to actually show any form of limping/indication of low health.
I think the only other time we've felt bad about killing off a boss was when we found out the story behind Quelaag and her sister. Yeah.
